RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 25, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 25, 2010 Here are some of my own photos of today at Taunton, starting with the characters, and then the layouts. Just starting to set up this morning: Nadine (Miss LMS, aka Mrs Mozzer) was the first of the Ladies of the Kitchen to arrive, and kept us supplied with tea and coffee whilst we set up: Meanwhile, Mozzer himself gets Forks Trestle set up: Simon Howard (MrS.Corn78) gets ready to explain DCC: GWMark and Graham Muz setting up Fisherton Sarum: 10800 and Re6/6 get caught in the act of plotting a monster P4 Southern layout: The Ladies of the Kitchen are ready for the day - Michelle (TFMP), Nadine (Miss LMS) and Madeleine (CTMK) Having evidently sussed that there was an Officer on the Deck, the Hedges Hill crew from Bentley MRC standing to attention: The event is just starting to get going by now: Paul Hutfield (Kempenfelt) with some of his amazing 5" gauge stock: 'Little & Large'....!! 'Lip-smacking tasty, these pasties!': Having received Our Leader's endorsement, the queue for the pasties gets a bit longer...

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 25, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 25, 2010 Some more unsuspecting folk being roped into the mega P4 Ouse Valley project, no doubt.... ;) Phil Eakins and the RSU: Barry Ten explains the operation of Cogirep, Penlan seems to have 'seen the light'... More jocularity on the Hedges Hill stand on the occasion of the Captain's next visit!... Much interest in Marc Smiths superb two layouts: Stu (Stubby47) and his ingenious 'Wheal Tiny': ChrisF observing CraigWelsh assemble one of his superb etched wagon chassis: Metropolitan feels he could finish Kempenfelt's 5" gauge Standard tank in an afternoon!: Dave Harding from The Model Shop, Exeter in salesman mode: Mr Harrap seems to have taken a shine to Re6/6's cottage pies! RMweb Premium DLT Posted April 25, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 25, 2010 Great pictures Captain, from a super day; EXCEPT the photo of me looking like I was about to "revisit my pasty". I thoroughly enjoyed the grub, but you wouldnt think so from the photo! All the best, Dave.T
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted April 25, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 25, 2010 Always delighted to see the faces behind the names, and to see everyone having the planned good time! Great pics CK, and perhaps one year I'll manage to creep in!
Penlan
I think I may have overdone the teeth whitening Or .... some say the sun normally shines out the other end....... and, what's happened to Barry10's legs?
10800
I didn't take many photos, and of those several were very similar to those already posted. However: An interloper on Fisherton Sarum Even Gronks can look quite big (Clarbeston North, hope that crankpin nut stayed on!) And a couple on the amazing Axalp I've got some short videos that I'll sort out later.
RMweb Gold PhilH Posted April 26, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2010 Good photos, thanks for posting. I shudder to think what the wiring diagram is like on some of that triple gauge pointwork and crossings!
RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted April 26, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2010 Thanks Tim (CK) for posting pictures & many, many thanks for organising the day. Really good to catch up with a few people, I enjoyed comparing curry houses & pubs with Andy Y (!) and "Mr motivator" Marc Smith had some encouraging words again. I do promise to post some pictures of my work in progress soon... Thanks also to Simon (MrS.Corn) for sorting the DCC on my 108 DMU I do wish to point out that I did not spend all day on my mobile phone, CK seems to have caught me during the 10 mins I was catching up

Penlan
......I shudder to think what the wiring diagram is like on some of that triple gauge pointwork and crossings! ...and as Mr Harrap himself found out... You can put any train in some of of the sidings, and some train in all of the sidings (I think !), but you can't put all the train in all of the sidings... Actually, I think it's a great layout, even older than mine too, 25 years B)
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted April 26, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2010 Here's my set of wobbly photos from the excellent party yesterday. Brian Harrap
Good photos, thanks for posting. I shudder to think what the wiring diagram is like on some of that triple gauge pointwork and crossings! Hi Phil, I know you'll say I'm just saying this but I'll just say it anyway :- the wiring of the multigauge is no more involved than 'ordinary' wiring. All the frogs and crossings are in fact electrically grouped together and are either switched one way or the other as normal for 'live frogs'. One simple micro switch (mostly handmade contraptions fitted directly to the tiebars on ZOB) per turnout does the trick in most cases. Just think of it as the narrowest gauge first with the other gauges added on afterwards. Mechanical construction follows the same sort of thinking. Thanks for your interest, Regards, Brian. rouse2037
Great pictures of a brilliant day. Exactly the type of show I enjoy best - great layouts, room to move about, lots of chatting and plenty of tea. Well done and thanks Roger

Andy Y
Finally got chance to sort some of the snaps from ' the do'. Before exhibitors start filling layouts up with stock the little people have to tidy up the shed and be at the ready for coaling: I even managed to carry a whole layout in, on one hand. Whilst Stu had a lot of setting up to do on Porth Byhan: Marc Smith's Clarbeston North was giving me far too much inspiration on the journey home. Doesn't weathering come across so well in 7mm when done well? I also like the fading from sky into the background to give a heads of the valleys drizzle. It was a pleasure to see Barry Ten's Cogirep once more, Parisian grot. Back on Fisherton Sarum things have become a little busier: It seems the revolution has come to Hedges Hill with Wolfie's TLF clearing the town centre: Kempenfelt's 5" L&Y 'A' Class is an absolute stunner: Stu and Craig showed off Wheal Tiny's upstairs downstairs features. Mozzer brought a touch of North America: It was nice to see such a selection of North Staffs content amongst Penlan's eclectic pre-grouping range of wagons. Brian Harrap's Axalp is simply stunning from a track perspective: Although he seems to disagree with Metropolitan that all European layouts should have a camp site. RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted April 26, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2010 Thanks to all who shared these photos, obviously a good day for everyone there. Special thanks to Penlan and Andy for the NSR treat! Oh, and this one really should go in the "Most realistic" thread - what a delight:
