    Coastguard Creek - 15 months of planning!

Bogies!

The only really serious bit of modelling is converting the bogies from being that of a 158 to those found on a Mk3.   Being particularly experienced in contemplating my navel. Leg Problems No More. Stability Success

I now have the legs complete with stays and locking pins and I've had a clearout to allow the 'layout' to be installed in it's displayed state within the hobby room for work on the track and scenics. All the legs have adjustable feet on now too to compensate for uneven floors and my inability to cut eight legs to precisely the same length!   I fitted a lower brace to the outer legs, improving stability, that meant the cassette ends had to be shortened a little. On my way back from the doctor I shot two quick photos just outside Bad Soden Station ...       ...first of HLB (Hessische Landesbahn) DMU VT 205 or 648 405 working the 83562 service to Frankfurt-Höchst - travel time on this line is just 9 minutes. Garden path and garage door!

For most of the time I've been building Highworth I was accessing the garage through the main "up and over" door. As the railway was pretty much circular this meant that to get to the freezer we all needed to limbo under two baseboards then do the return journey clutching frozen food! Not ideal, but it kept us fit.   The major disadvantage was that whenever I was working on the layout it was exposed to the elements. That made it almost impossible to do anything through the winter months.

Sticking point not stuck...

Some good news... Fiddling about with the point last night, I noticed that if I made the point motor move the point then it does work! So it should just be a case of taking that off the board and drilling the hole out a bit to make it work both ways.

9f bashing update!

well folks had some time this afternoon to bash ahead with a little more work on the rebuilt crosti 9f! got the front t plate in and smokebox hand rail then found id run out of the right size wire! so off to hunt round the shed and found some that may do the trick so will see how it turns out over the next few days! so just had a few spare mins to take a few pics so here you go!

Class 15 - sticking little bits on!

I've spent the evening fitting the various pipes to the buffer beam on the Class 15. Quite fiddly, but worthwhile. Having thinned down the sandboxes they are on too. I've opted for a freight headcode and think adding the disks to the nose really brings the loco to life.   Now I must get around to ordering a chip, but every time I think about it during the day somebody asks me to do something at work!     I think I'm going to trim back the coupling holder to fit an Alex Jackson hook in. Cul Uisge - Kyle in 4 feet - Station Building 3

In response to requests to show progress on the station building, I thought I'd better get on with the station building   The window frames have now been fitted and look OK - not brilliant but I'll live with it. The glazing will be added once the building has been weathered.   The main roof structure is now in place as is the canopy structure. This is my second layout in "00" since returning to the hobby. The first was a shunting plank which left little opportunity for sitting back and watching trains go "round and round".   So, my wife, seeing the problem, suggested I fill the whole garage with a model railway to suit. Bruckless Junction update

Spent the weekend back in the UK to take a trip on the Help for Heroes Steam Special so didn't get the ballasting of the depot tidied up until today. It didn't turn out too badly but looks a bit clean at the moment but that will be addressed in the future. Carriage sidings will be next, then I can get on with ballasting the running lines.

OOn3 Ruston 48DS - n.g.footplate and body.

I've finally started soldering together the bodywork for the narrow gauge loco. The frame sides, bufferbeams and footplate are made from .016" brass to measurements taken from the Irchester loco. The frame is 12'9" long by 5' wide on the n.g. loco, the standard gauge loco has frames 11'4" long by 6'10" wide (measurements taken from the Chasewater loco). Viaduct

I had a corner of the layout to fill, so i decided to build a viaduct on a curve.     Again as before it was built as a module in my garage and then moved into the house   The viaduct is built with a plywood shell and then covered in wills coarse stone sheets, with slater's plasticard for the arches   I've found that you can use a warm soldering iron to melt the coarse sheets on the joins to hid them       The watermill is from the wills craftsmaster kits
