Moving to P4

Ok, it is official, I have gone raving mad and took the plung into the world of P4 (not so much S4) Starting with this post is some actual proof rather than speculation, I have made that all important start. Pictures show some tools, gauges and bits I have brought, also I have joined two wheels to an axle using that £20 back to back gauge from Exactoscale and Loctite 243 (Suitable? Didn't want to use 603 incase I needed to remove things). Black track in background is C&L Flexible track

Moving to P4 (Post 3)

I started by applying Butanone glue to the bottom right chair and moved it along using the triangular gauge and the '+1' roller gauge, poking sleepers and chairs into place and gluing along the way, about 1/3 along I gauged and glued the far bottom left chair and then jumped a few at a time becasue the triangular gauge gauges a few at a time whilst widening slightly on the curve. As I was doing this I would move the roller gauge back every now and then to test the alignment, occassionally I got

Small P4 Layout Update 2

I'm sorry to hear that, what's the ailment?> or if best not to say then that's understandable too. Real life has to take precedence over hobby type things :| I've recently had 3 days off work with Gout again, so it seems many of us are in a similar boat (or...wagon?)! Baby update, well, not really an update as such. I've been 'playing' with the layout practicing shunting with the 4 wagons I've given Dingham couplings and that 57xx engine. So far I've found two areas of track needed twe

Completed - LMS 6399 FURY

I have been bashing a model of LMS 6399 FURY from a Bachmann parallel Boiler Royal Scot for two reasons.   Reaosn 1) I have ALWAYS wanted a model of it! I have seen two models of Fury on Vectis online and that's it, literally. I think I have attained a standard better than the gray version but inferiour to the Crimson Lake version. Either way despite a few niggles that I'm kicking myself for, I'm happy with it.   Reason 2) Me, S.A.C Martin and Sean O'Connor and SiFox at the Permanent Wa

Dual Gauge Bodge Job! - P4-09? - Blog & Vlog

PFfwwwwouuf PFfwwwwouuf ppooofff. Just blowing the dust off this blog. Right then, what follows isn't 'quite' a turnout, but it sort of is as what is shown 'turned out' and the formation...turns out. I'll leave the correct terminogy for those of you who know better as I'm still picking things up. A dear friend of mine, sadly distant and rarely seen due to geography came down for a few days and we had a lot of fun (and frustrations!) bodging up a 009-P4 crossover with nothing but a single p

P4 Awkward Compensation Job & 0 Gauge Improvement from Crudery

To those on RMweb - I haven't updated this in a long time, less than at S4 because it took ages to work out how to paste due to RMweb making things a pain in the ass, so if you want to catch up you'll have to pop over to S4.       I haven't done much modelling for AGEEEES. I haven't been in the mood much and have had other things on the go that take priority, I have been doing a little bit of kitbashing and scratch building some loading dock but other than that not much.   I went Warley th

(Post 8 (LBSCR 'E2' Boiler Explosion!))

I think after I'm going to buy a Hornby body and have another go with that. Truth is I think this old kit body is pretty horrid. I naively thought at the time of planning, simply being a 'kit' the model would be far superior as a base to detail over the old Hornby plastic one but after having a good look I think I was wrong.     I don't know what is the most accurate in terms of basic dimentions so last night I measured my metal body to that of my Hornby Thomas, which is basically an E2 with

Moving to P4 (Post 20)

I've painted some of the wagons now. The following needs Matt varnish and a little toning down of the white lettering, but it's pretty much complete. The livery is made up but sensible, I've seen examples of the same scheme and some RWS illustrations have it so I hope it's believable. Lettering is 4mm high and the NWR stands for North Western Railway. On the other wagon I'm going to use 8mm lettering and just have NW to represent the same thing, that wagon has grey strapping instead of black

Moving to P4 (Post 13 (Converting the Heljan Class 35 'Hymek'))

Apparently known to being one of the easiest 00 conversions to P4 known to mankind, I thought I'd give it a go. Conclusion, MEGA easy, however, I had some difficulties that you are unlikely to have, thus I'll post them first.     before all that bother I had a short circuit that I didn't realise until the controller passsed out, I had a hammer accross the test track at the far end. MONG, so after that I changed controllers but loco was still almost dead, probably too hot. After the above q

Moving to P4 (Post 12)

Ok, new update. Apart from the stretcher bars and TOU (took me months to find out what that meant) and the need to add the fshplates to the removable section again, it is pretty much complete. Both my test trucks run through it fine, one is that sprung cattle wagon in progress and the other is a Hornby 'Thomas Tank' truck with the wheels swapped for pinpoint axle P4, that's currently it, not even inserted cup bearings yet and as result the wheels don't spin perfectly on one pivot, the bob kind

Moving to P4 (Post 6)

Whilst I await that point blade (phoned Len other day) I finally managed to work out what I think I need. Bill Bedford RCH 1907 Sprung W Irons. Might try a truck conversion whilst I wait. if you have any suggestions as to a good flat base doner (kit or RTR) please tell me.     Don't really know what I'm doing as the instructions as usual with most etches asume you have some idea what you are doing. This is what I did... Clamped the wire in the err 'thing', then spent a while trying to

Moving to P4 (Post 5)

The replacement point blade that was wrong/same as I posted back that I again returned with a more full letter and diagrams still hasn't arrived. It was posted last wednesday and I'm still waiting. One tends to think that if it isn't lost in the post it's some cruel trick to wind me up more than I already am. Been about a month since I made any progress. I really do not want to have to get on the phone or send a nag letter.   One day i might make another progress post.

Tidmouth Engine Shed Circa 1910-25

It's been a while since I last posted about it yet the hardest bit is out the way.  Roof is crudely printed at 200 microns in PETG and needs some smoothing around the joins but I'm happy enough.  Overall impression once done I'm sure will be passable.   Wals are 3mm plasticard with thin brick plastic card overlays and 3D printed lintels n arches. Beed to add circular vents in the triangles and also roof vents.  Roof needs more strutting, pillars, filler and other things.  Pleased so fa

Moving to P4 (Post 2)

Pasted from Scaleforum   Curves. I still don't really know what I'm doing. I gtot a 4ft bit of cotton today, selotaped it to a pen at the bottom and then drew a few passes on an A4 sheet of paper. Had no bigger. The line wasn't always in the same place but I kinda got the idea. I am not sure how to build the rails curved, i did originally bend the rail before sliding the chairs on but then ended up straightening it again to build it straight on the (properly scaled this time!) straight

Completed - NWR # 4 Gordon (MK II / 1939 Crewe Rebuild)

Like the first A0 Gordon, this one is also my second version of Gordon MK II.   Pastes:   -   Gordon 1939 Crewe Rebuild - MK II   Based and modelled from Simon and Sean's research as close as I could. I just hope it doesn't disapoint after all this time, I have tried hard on it as I always do. I can never help but pick myself up though. :   From an older picture you may have seen I have revised those cylinder drain cocks as to my mind they were too high, so now they are squashed t

Moving to P4 (Post 17 (2nd Cambrian Wagon Complete))

The cattle wagon is Dapol and the other Cambrian, I haven't made a Cooper Craft kit yet, any good? New update and a new wagon. Construction was almost the same as before. I learnt a lesson from the previous truck that has led to easier and more accurate placement of the W iron etches. On the last truck they might be too far to one side by half a mm or so, it runs great with the shunting finger and gravity roll but in a train with energies bing pulled forward it might be a problem - will se

P4 layout popped -Onwards & Upwards!

Doubting this post will interest many for a variety of reasons but I feel it deserves to be explained fully.   A few days ago I ripped the layout up.   P4 too hard for me? Giving up? Nope, neither. All is explained below.   I originally designed the layout to utilise the P&C already built rather than build some new points. I built it as a typical P4 test plank as is traditional to get a feel for things, make mistakes on, experiment with new ideas, provide a photographic backdrop an

New layout Framework Progress - Hippo Proof.

Update on the layout. I will be making a Video Log series but at the moment it's just Blog style.   Been building the struts along the wall using roughly lengths cut to (mostly) 2 foot long. Some are a wee less but it doesn't matter that much if a few are a bit out as long as the surface is level. Me and Daddio been doing it and we've tried to get it as consistent as possible with the Spirit Level. I've had to wind him up a few times because we have a different idea on what is 'good enough' bu

Moving to P4 (Post 23 (Proposed Layout))

Plan based on Wilbert Awdry's proposed model of Knapford Junction (old type) mixed with my own interpretive projections. I have billions I've planned in 00 on Anyrail but I've only reciently seen they have updated it with Exactoscale P4 track - so I've redone a plan to P4. I'm still learning Templot slowly but for the time being I can now legitimately use Anyrail with P4 geometry. A step forward definetly. Ok, First up is Knapford Junction before the rebuild and subsequent move to North of

Moving to P4 (Post 4)

Exactoscale P4 C10-LH Turnout Kit (They didn't have a smaller one for the starter pack at Warley)   Started by taping the template above the work area so I can refer to it. No need to build the track on this as there are pips to locate chairs. Instructions reccomened blue-tack to hold the 3 sections of timbering down, so once I de-flashed them I did so with White Teck. Same thing really. The crossing V or frog comes in one section so that was a relief, however, at one angle it looks sl
