I originally started with OO but changed to N gauge which I modelled extensively due to limited space.
I am now trying TT120 as a compromise with all the challenges of a 'new' scale

PLEASE stop using Status updates as a Tinder site. I want to know about White Rabbits and folks' Cats.
-
@Mallard60022 - just 'swipe left' to reject. I'm guess you must be 'swiping right' too often - I believe that's the way you look for your match!!😁

With huge respect, could the Status Updates be separated from the PM facility. It's getting silly.
Thanks.

Well if you type in the 'What's on your mind' box, it doesn't highlight that it's a public message (but one would assume that no-one thinks it's private), but if you go to someone else's feed to post a message to them, the box does clearly state that it's a public message, but it doesn't stop some people using it to post something that really should be private. I think the problem is that it's the more obvious contact option and some people either don't read the word private, or alternatively they don't care.

anyone know of any model groups in the east of Scotland that cater for modern image modellers?
-
@Moonter. Our Constitution gives a minimum age of 14 to become a Junior Member, but in practise we have no issues with Club Members bringing their sons (or daughters) along, even if they are a bit younger. In the past we have had some adults join the club purely because it is their son's hobby and they leave when their son finds another interest. I can't give you an absolute minimum age (because we've never agreed on one), but your son would need to be mature enough to engage in what is currently an adult only club (our-youngest members are in their 20s and our oldest in their 70s and 80s). We do not have any child safeguarding policy, as a youth organisation like the Scouts would, so we would leave you as being responsible for your son's behaviour and safety when he is at our premises. Finally, as our clubroom is effectively a workshop, there are obviously some safety hazards such as saws, knives, drills, soldering irons, etc and therefore I'd encourage that you make sure your son is aware of the risks of injury from various tools. However, despite all these caveats, I have no objections to you bringing you son along with you, and as I'm currently the secretary, I can say that as a committee view.

@Moonter - there were ten of us down at the clubroom last night, which was above average for a Thursday. Some work continued on the 009 layout, an N gauge layout that one of our members has been working on for a few years was erected in the clubroom for the first time (for comments on outstanding tasks to make it exhibitable) and a few discussions were had in relation to DC & DCC automation and stock requirements for our next layout. Just a typical night really.

Current membership is 26 individuals, but a typical night is probably around 8-10 people on a Tuesday and 5-6 on a Thursday. However, it can be busier some nights depending on people's shift patterns and family commitments, but it would be rare for more than about 14 people to be down on the same night, unless it was our AGM.

Well, our next layout should be one based on Edinburgh Haymarket, post-2014 in 00. However, it's still at the design stage and construction probably won't start for another year. Completing a 009 layout that was started pre-COVID is our current priority. Track laying is largely complete, but wiring and scenic work is still required. You're welcome to come along to a couple of our meetings to help you decide if you feel you'd fit in. Address and location map is on our website at http://www.elmrc.org.uk/contact.php. I should be down this evening.

Hi Fran. Quick question please. What constitutes an order on your website? I checked my rewards and it said I had ordered 3 times. But under my orders, excluding 2 that are pending/partially paid, I have ordered and fully paid 10 times - 4 locos and 18 wagons spread over 6 orders. Thanks in advance.
-
No, the rewards scheme wasn't there from the start, but I can't say when it was introduced. Most of my Accurascale purchases have been through my local retailer, but I've ordered direct twice. The first (November 2019) was before the reward scheme was introduced and the second (November 2022) was after, so my reward points only relate to my second order. I only have the points bonus for one order and the 3 points per pound tallies with the value of my second order.

Anyone else think in terms of red frogs and black frogs when wiring points?
-
@Hroth said "Red and Black date back to the pre-1977 mains cable colours, you really should start thinking in terms of Brown and Blue"
... but Blue doesn't rhyme with track!!! That's why it's still Red and Black to the track. 😀

feeling like suicide
-
I agree with the other comments - DON'T DO IT. Many people suffer from depression or other mental health issues at some point in their life. The problem is that it can be difficult to talk about because there is still a bit of a stigma associated with mental health issues. I think men also find it more difficult to discuss their feelings than women. I'm not sure if that is a fear that they will be seen as weak (non macho) or because the male of the species is somehow less able to express the way they feel in words. A shout out for help is the first step to recovery.
My own employer is keen on trying to break down that stigma in the workplace and therefore encourage all of us to think about our own mental health and they set up the One Million Lives website (https://www.oml.world/) to provide some resources (which can be used by anyone) and trained some staff as 'positive mental health champions' to encourage people to discuss mental health issues. I think that is helpful, but the problem is of course when you are as depressed as to consider suicide you probably need more direct help from medical professionals. We are encouraged to be supportive of other staff's mental health issues, but if we have concerns that someone is contemplating taking their life to contact emergency services. A friendly supportive chat with a colleague on its own isn't enough.
Your doctor should presumably be able to prescribe anti-depressants, which help to some extent: I take them myself. They don't suddenly make the world a happy place (let's be honest there is a lot wrong with the human race at the moment) but I find that they do take the edge off the lows. I'm tempted to say that they don't work, but on the days when I forget to take them I do feel worse, so I conclude that they still help me. In the case of contemplating suicide they simply give a bit of breathing space to help identify why you feel like giving up on life. I don't know what the circumstances are that make you feel the way you do, but again counselling can be helpful - the problem is mainly that in the UK at least it can take a while to get referred to someone.
Whatever you do - seek help. You are not alone and there are more people out there that care about you than you may realise.

Today will be spent mostly avoiding doing things... How much mischief can I achieve in a 6 hour working day?

Hi I recently came across this thread regarding GWR letters and I understand that you have the computer font for these letters. Would you be able to share the font with me, my club is building. GWR layout and I have been tasked with making the signs. In return I could 3D print some for you if you need anymore. Thanks.
