The assisting loco was 7820 Dinmore Manor.http://cgibin.wsr.org.uk/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?h=Snapshot&p=2017/09/180 That part of Somerset - The Quantock Hills - is actually quite hilly! Crocombe Heathfield station is the highest point on the line at just under 120m above sea level.

Sorry the link doesn't seem to work.

Its hilly and wet down Somerset way. The GWR had a Pacific and only let it venture beyond Bristol once...

  3. Assuming preserved locos are allowed? GWR 28xx no. 2857, seen here at Bewdley on a June evening back in 2013. The loco was built at Swindon in 1918 and came out of service in about 1964 IIRC. Then it spent a few years in Barry scrapyard until the 2857 Society bought the loco and restored it at the SVR.

  5. The Ryedale Miniature Railway in Gilling, North Yorkshire, owned by the Ryedale Society of Model Engineers (photo taken April 2017). It's a nice little railway, constructed in the grounds of the village hall.
  6. Not a very good shot I know, but here's the resident pilot no. 08805 at Soho TMD, Birmingham. I think this loco has gained a reputation of being in historic liveries, as here it is in BR Railfreight grey and I believe it has also been in LMS maroon.
  7. Or supposing it's a super-duper new tooling GWR 'Manor'?

  9. Hurrah! D821 'Greyhound' is finally home!
  10. And let's not get apprime aberratio. I don't speak much Latin though some of my friends can speak it fluently!
  11. Didn't you take the layout to Warley last year Porcy? Also, how big is Croft Depot? Cheers,
  12. Would have to be the 50th show I can't go to wouldn't it! *sob sob* Seriously, it sounds as though there's a great line up for this year with all the demonstrations and 1450 I'm sure will make a great centrepiece exhibit.
  13. Sad to see Ashburton, once a pretty little GWR branch line terminus, now with little hope of trains ever returning.
  14. So, today's theme is engine sheds. A very famous Gresley A3 receives some attention at Bridgnorth MPD last year during the Pacific Power event, September 2016.
  15. In a shop the other day I saw easter eggs being sold, does that mean that as soon as that's over they'll be selling the christmas stuff?

I once saw a train set being sold, 5 months away from Christmas!

  16. Fantastic work as always Larry. Are you going to model that small dark-coloured hut between the station building and the bridge where the gents toilet is currently?

  18. Flying Scotsman takes on Eardington bank during the Pacific Power weekend last year at the SVR.
  19. Yes, via Doncaster and the south London district of Peckham.
  20. I'm quite keen on ornithology as well as model railways. I've been away for a while but before I left the resident robin was visiting, in addition to some dunnocks and blackbirds. The blue tits started making a nest in the nestbox but after a few weeks abandoned it - we still don't know where they went and why. And whilst not a garden bird exactly, the house martins are being kept extremely busy in their nest under the eaves!
  21. I must admit that the Dapol 57xx in O Gauge seriously tempted me to go that way, but for my budget £199 is a little expensive; might have to make do with a second hand one!
  22. I believe Tyseley were approached as to having either Earl of Mount Edgcumbe or Rood Ashton Hall take part in the event, but the busy schedule of the Shakespeare Express meant that it wasn't practical - otherwise, they're might have been a Castle there!
  23. It's a pity that such an iconic location is going to be nearly completely eradicated. However Brunel championed new designs and innovation so he'd be proud of what's to come.
  24. And a very well known bird: The GWR Railcar has partially photo bombed my shot there.
