Some who do not follow the "Non-railway modelling" thread may not be aware.

Recently I had the pleasure of taking a trip to an aerodrome in my home state.

I have 998 photos from the event on my Flickr.  Their collection mostly contained items from 1900-1930s.

.....and the unfortunate result of the above 'bounce'.

Location is Khartoum and the event was a military training flight culminating in a formation landing. I'm lead to believe that the crew aboard the second Antonov, which bounced multiple times, didn't survive.

I've finally gotten my finger out and fiddle with a few photos recovered from an old hard drive taken at the 2007 Biggin Hill air fair....one of the last I think until recent years. As next year I understand will be the retirement year of the Tornado I thought I'd post up a few that I had taken.

Pan and RAF Wessex which had been airlifted out from UK for exercise Bersatu Padu 1970. (Probably one of the biggest UK exercises since the Second World War).,

Hello everyone

This is more of a 'test posting' than anything else as I haven't posted any photos before.

The pic was taken a few days ago. Landing 27R at Heathrow. It's actually a 'screen grab' from a video taken on my mobile phone.

Nice photos - Tornado retirement will complete a trio of major British aircraft programmes that I spent my career on, Sea King and Harrier/AV8B being the other two.

Retired like me......

Ah yes, seeing the Wessex picture means I have to correct my previous comment.  I actually worked on the Gnome engine for the Sea King and the similar lower power Gnomes for the Wessex and Whirlwind.  All De Havilland versions of the GE T58.

A nice pic of one from my old outfit. I can't see the registration but I'll have 'a few hours' on it.

Clearly shown is the strange 'bump' above the nose landing gear. It's there to alter the position of the nose gear and gives the freighter a higher nose during ground ops, thereby leveling the cargo deck for loading/unloading. The passenger 330 has a distinct nose down attitude when on the ground.

Hello Paperlad

Many thanks for the info. My son is more 'plane technical' than me as he training for his commercial licence having passed the PPL about three years ago, and he will be pleased to hear that.

My video was timed at 14.17 on 17 October.

A quick 'playback' on Flightradar 24 shows her as operating QR 8293, registration A7-AFV.

All the best

That is one neat logbook, I long since gave up writing the arr and dep times in mine, block times only. At least with long haul we’re not constantly filling pages .

Hello everyone

Many postings back, I mentioned that I had taken a photo of the Playboy Jet at Heathrow. I have now attached that below. Please note that it was a long way off when I took the photo and the camera was probably a simple Instamatic.

Although my photo isn't dated, records seem to indicate that the plane was there on (from?) 29 July 1970. That would tie up (roughly) with my memory and the fact that the friend who was with me (cropped out) was in shirtsleeves.

Hello everyone

I'm not sure if this is 'old news' but it is something I have only just found on Flightradar24.

It may be different on phone-based screens and you might need to be a Gold member, but on my laptop up towards the top right, there is a drop-down box which was headed: Map View (Default).

If you click down into that list, you will find: Multi-select.

This enables you to highlight many aircraft and see their tracks all at once. An interesting feature!

A couple of screen shots from the film Sons of the Sea. Showing an RAF Bristol Blenheim mk 1 being a mystery aircraft...bombing a Royal Navy launch in this espionage drama. I know there is inter service rivalry but the RAF bombing the Navy!!!

Sadly not a very good film apart from some very nice colour film of the Dartmouth naval college and the surrounding area, including Churston station (see the posting in the Railway footage in feature films thread) Only thing interesting about the film is that is was a colour film shot in 1939 just before the outbreak of war. You can clearly see the undersides of the aircraft with the early camouflage pattern of black on the port side and white on the starboard but with the ailerons on each side in the opposite colour.

It's not like the Royal Navy ever shot at the RAF, is it?? :jester:
