RMweb Gold Popular Post Stubby47 Posted July 11, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 11, 2019 (edited) TF is now inplace on the new baseboard framework in the garage. Eventually it will be moved to storage in the loft, but it's being shown at Hayle at the end of August and needs a little more work to improve certain areas. The 25 is at the end of the siding to see if there is scope to add more operation - it will need another uncoupler and an isolation section. sb67
Just had a look through your thread Stu, great little layout and some nice modelling, I really like the barn and the way the layout looks using either blue diesels or earlier steam era stock. Well done Steve. 1
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted July 12, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 12, 2019 (edited) Thanks Steve. The scenics were deliberately left vague to allow a wide variety of eras to be used. I'd like a modern day short loco, a Class 66 is far too big, but not sure what would be appropriate for a West Country location. This evening I have been making a lighting rig. I have a set of multicolour LEDs that were last used on Shepherds, so these will be re-used. The phone camera seems to auto-adjust for different main hues, so the photos all look the same. In reality, the white is a little harsh and the yellow a little too yellow. Angling the strip helps and I have a second strip to add, so I'll sort that and keep experimenting. Technology is good, overly helpful technology less so! 1
sb67
Shame you couldn't get a 66 on there. I wonder if you could get away with a network rail 31, a DRS class 20 or a bubble car on route learning? I know they are not strictly modern and I guess the majority of modern wagons are too big. I like to build layouts that could be multi era as well. So far I've resisted temptation to buy stock that is later than 1990 ish though. Steve.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted July 13, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2019 (edited) I have a 20 in blue, so a DRS version is a good idea. I also don't have any modern stock (edit: yet), but that's not a problem if the loco/era is defined. Ta. Edited July 13, 2019 by Stubby47
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted July 24, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2019 A busy morning at the Forge, as a 25 tries to pick five random wagons from the eight in the sidings.
marc smith
Nice to see TInner's Forge being posted on here again Stu That building still looks fab, and the 25 really looks "at home" sat in front of it 2
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted July 24, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2019 Cheers Marc. I think what I like is I can use anything from blue TOPS stuff right back to GWR, and it all looks right. It's a timeless layout, which is what I wanted.

Very Nice Stu, I just love that quiet backwater feel and openness of TF. 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post Stubby47 Posted August 1, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 1, 2019 One early morning, sometime in the first few years of the 1940's, a trainee SOE operative was practicing with his new buttonhole camera. Lurking in the bushes beside the Forge, which we now know was used for storing D-Day preparations, he captured a couple of shots of the various wagons used to bring in the necessary supplies.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted August 2, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 2, 2019 Just as he's leaving, Truro loco 4554 turns up to collect some of the wagons. Scampering up the hill, our trainee turns back and tries another photo.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted August 13, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 13, 2019 3 more wagons ready for TF's outing to Hayle on 24th/25th August.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted August 14, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 14, 2019 (edited) Un-Coupling 'staples' (now short lengths of soft iron bar) have been added to a few wagons today, both additions to the fleet and repairs to other where the staple had become unglued. I'm now using contact adhesive, which is much better in the long term than superglue. TF will be in GWR guise at Hayle, so panniers and prairies will be on parade. RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted August 17, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 17, 2019 I've added the second lighting strip and the light levels are much better, without being overbright. The shadow is caused by the garage light. I have a black sheet to cover the top when exhibiting.
