DAS000925 Mexborough (ex No.3)

For those wondering how the canal got over there, the location as far as I can tell is at the following link to Bing OS maps, on what is now the freight line via Kilnhurst, and the photographer is looking almost north:

Look how uncluttered Doncaster looked back then!

Eastwest: your link just sends me to a load of phone numbers in Mexborough

Try this google one though

The line to the left looks to be the old link to the Mexborough to swinton line

Yep, your link is to the same place I linked to. Don't know why it doesn't work for you but it still does for me.

And agree on the line to the left, in fact towards Wath in those days. The derelict curve and that bridge are still visible from passing trains.

Do my eyes deceive me or has this been converted to a ballast plough (or even built like that)

All great photos for the modeller, loads of detail and interest!

Nice to see some more shots of my home town and former place of employment (Reading). One small correction to DAS000994 if I may; 47080 is on an east-bound train and is on the up goods line at the east end of the station. You would have been standing on the old platform 10 (Henley/Paddington bay), whose track is in the bottom left corner.

Please, please, please comment on the photos - especially the units and stock as I know little about them, just the class would be good. I'll admit I'm wondering about the merits of continuing this thread, I know there are people who like the photos and some comment and provide assistance - I realise not every photo needs a comment and not everyone knows things but there have been quite a few things posted and no-one commented and I'm sure that someone would recognise the class of unit in the photo. If the caption doesn't mention it, then I've either missed it or don't know it - It takes time and effort for me to share them, please help with information when you can, if I spend my time identifying things that some can identify by sight then I'll have less time (and inclination) to spend sharing the photos - and I currently have over 800,0000 ...  Sorry for the moan.

Agree - please continue posting. Your Liverpool area photos are fascinating - so much has gone over the years. We used to take scenes like this for granted, not worth photographing back then - but time marches on - and I for one thank people like you for both photographing the mundane back then, and sharing them for all now.
