Worst name on a locomotive; where do you start? There are dozens of names that shouldn’t be on the side of a dustbin, never mind a locomotive. Even as a teenager I thought that naming an HST power car “Top of the Pops” was rather insulting. And I still do, so despite it being just one contender in a very strong field,  that’s my suggestion.

I agree this is probably 1939, as 4813 wasn't released into traffic till December 38.

Either very early 1939, or March onwards.  4813 was damaged in an accident in 29 January 1939, and not put back into service until 11th March.  It doesn't seem like a cold winter day...  so later, maybe?

Looking at other photographs of 48xx V2s and the photo I have of 813, I do agree that it's 4813 we're looking at, not 813.  Good catch.

”.... of utter mediocrity”

Utter mediocrity indeed. Highly appropriate that it should be stuck on the side of a class a class 315, itself the epitome of utter mediocrity.

I'm going to go for 'Pretty Polly' as well. There have been many awful and thankfully forgettable names over the years but at least Pretty polly raises a smile!

61648 and 61656 were joint second but 61630 has to be a winner loser.

The best team didn't get given a B17 name.

Princess Arthur (really??) of Connaught (Sp?)

Hi Neil

The loco was named after Princess Alexandra, 2nd Duchess of Fife, but following her marriage in 1913 to Prince Arthur of Connaught, Alexandra was referred to as HRH Princess Arthur of Connaught, in accordance with the tradition that a wife normally shares the title and style of her husband.

Look at the rubbish one can find on the interwebthingie.

Worse name on a loco has to go to 61630, sadly my keyboard will not allow me to type its name. :tomato::tomato::tomato:

Shame on you! They didn't even bother naming one after your lot.

Come on you Spurs!
