RMweb Gold Market65 Posted August 1, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 1, 2016 Hi, Dave. Excellent photos from Cramlington on Saturday. The class 142, 142070 has an extra vent on its cab fronts. This has to be a modification. I love the Lincolnshire photos. Just look at the freight in the first photo at Lincoln Central hauled by 31, 5554. I just wish we could go back to those days! The 31 has had the D removed. With warmest regards, Rob.

LNERGE
Excellent again David It looks like someone has forgotten to remove the taillamp on the cravens A DMU arriving at Spalding had to shunt from the down to the up to return to Peterborough. The train looks like it was crossed over at No2 box and is heading back into the station. I'd say it was probably correct to have the lamp on the front at this stage and i'd say it was time consuming to change the lamp to the rear whilst waiting to cross over. RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted August 2, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 2, 2016 Also, Gainsborougfh Lea Road. Oh for that variety through there, however I have seen Containers through there recently and I believe that route is where most ECML N/S freight will end up in the future. This releases 'capacity' on the main line (i.e Donny to Peterborough) I believe? Anyone know the score on that? Phil

Phil What remains of the old GN&GE 'Joint Line' from Gainsborough-Peterborough has been ungraded over recent years with a view to running much more freight, as you say, I believe to reduce pressure on the ECML. The downside has been the almost universal eradication of signal boxes & traditional crossing gates along the route, but there has definitely been an increase in freight traffic & light engine movements from what I've seen. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted August 2, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 2, 2016 (edited) Hi, Dave. Further excellent photos of Cramlington from last Saturday. The last two of 156443 show what, I think is a form of advertising. It is something which I am not keen on, and I travelled back from York last Friday in a 158 so adorned. Seeing out of the windows is greatly hindered, and I felt quite ill. With warmest regards, Rob. Edited August 2, 2016 by Market65

Cheers Phil I believe all the 45s with the nose end doors were converted to single central headcode panels in the late 1960s. Some other 45s also gained that style, including D60, which had been a split centre box version: D60_Bristol-BR_19-10-68 by Robert Carroll, on Flickr

LNERGE
"scalebeams" ??? Note how the point rodding run changes direction. The motion of the rodding reverses here too. The centre pivot straight arm 'crank' is called a scalebeam. Others will have different names for them maybe. They do the same job as a point rodding compensator.
