  1. Past hour
  2. Yes, held in place by "scrivets" and even on blocks, with the car half on/half off the sloping area outside our garage, it's a pain to access. Which is why the job's been delayed for so long and I've now bought a £20 oil sump pump off eBay.
  3. I won't even attempt to argue your analysis of the prototypes because I openly admit to having minimal knowledge in that respect. But the thing for me is - does it look right in a mixed rake of PO wagons? For me, the answer with the Dapol examples is: yes. Not perfect, but for the price point I absolutely won't argue.
  4. Wasn't there a video clip that went viral some years ago of a woman putting a neighbour's cat into a wheelie bin? Dave
  5. I notice that the low loader is German registered. If it was going to or from a port why what was it doing in Chelmsford?
  6. It's also probably quicker and cheaper to move a boat by road than by water. Definitely, if it's from an inland boat builder. From coastal locations it's possibly cheaper to sail/motor, depending on distance. There are professional crews available if you haven't got any sailing friends.
  7. I’m assuming the escalator is in a departure lounge? Not the sort of image to inspire confidence in your imminent flight, and Turkish Airlines in particular!
  8. As I've been off work this tutorial has happened quicker than expected. The roof is treated with thin applications of paint and chalks. Here is what it looked like after a few goes. A takeaway tub is used to mix chalk colours. Just to show I do make mistakes, I tried an overall wash of black ink, this didn't work so was removed simply by loosening with water. When it dried (wet in this picture) the remaining ink had contributed to the finish and looked just subtly different to the previous photo. By the way, you can't use pigment binders such as the AK one, they turn chalks into sludge. Don't ask how I know!
  9. Ballasting looks good Chris... on my own 'to do list' that is..after the track is painted... and.....and.... Personally, I couldn't get on with my printed backscene, but that was an adhesive problem that wouldn't stick.. rendering the paper a soggy creased mess.. So twas a bin job for me.. In the end I went for a Wickes emulsion in 'powder' colour... mini rollered on, am quite happy with it and not too blue, even it there is a lack of clouds on it.. ;o) Then again, I have a much smaller expanse of 'sky' . I look forward to seeing more progress on Swindleton, keep up the good work. Cheers Steve
  10. Something else that is brown by the look of it.
  11. If I may, the South Staff's Wagon Company (SSWC) works was not actually located within the triangle of lines, which formed the junction where the Princes End line from Wednesbury joined that of the Stour Valley main line (the Princes End line closed as a through route in April 1981 and was the subject of a two-part article of mine in TRACTION 213 & 214). The spur from the Stour Valley serving the SSWC works was located on the Wolverhampton side of what was once Bloomfield Junction and close to where a bridge once spanned the "Stour" carrying the former Oxford Worcester & Wolverhampton Railway line (the wagon works was originally connected to the OWWR alignment). I believe the SSWC works closed in the mid-1980s. Much of its workload appears to have been associated with various tanker wagons used for chemicals, LPG and oil. For several years, wagons requiring attention at the SSWC site were stored at Wolverhampton's Wednesfield Road Goods from where they were tripped to the works on an "as and when required" basis. Wagons that had received attention were tripped to Bescot, this tripping turn being one of the very few trains still booked to use the aforementioned Princes End line during its final months of use before closure in April 1981. Following the Princes End line's closure, the trip from the SSWC to Bescot was amended to travel via Galton Junction and the Soho Road loop line. Cheers. Dave (David J. Hayes).
  12. Is that … brown flock?! 🫢🤔🤣
  13. Good afternoon folks, Well, it's nice to be thought of as a youngster at fast approaching 64 - I had never heard of an Ascot water heater either! Cheers, Nigel.
  14. It is ETCS Level 2. I expect the relative availability of the kit which no doubt has been approved by the German Rail Approval authorities meant it was probably as cost effective as any bespoke or off the peg non-ETCS system. It looks like Israeli Railways are also resignalling their upgraded and new lines with ETCS based on other cab videos I've watched so it is clear that ETCS is becoming a more mature technology. Apart from the UK it seems.
  15. Just one fast jet guy that I know of but a few helo operators did. Dave
  16. Interesting. I bet they were glad when they got the engine started.
  17. Sorry just got back for a few days away. I will take a picture and post it up
  18. I had given up on DIY car stuff by the time I got a Freelander but I did have the occasional crawl underneath to see if all was well. Is the lower engine cover difficult to remove to access the sump plug? I haven’t done an oil change on the Evoque either. In the past, I always seemed to end up doing car maintenance on horrible cars in bad weather. Now we have nice cars that get serviced at main dealers I can relax and play trains in the garage.
  19. I know! 😁🤣😈 Captain Cynical
  20. There were, yes! I noticed that too. For a while I even wondered if the stand next to Rapido was actually part of Rapido! One of their cabinets seemed identical and I couldn't see any additional personnel staffing the adjacent stand! In general I did see slot of Rapido stock around on other trader's tables, but I don't know if that had anything to do with Rapido not selling their own stuff? For me, manufacturers stands are usually 'marketing' stands but I guess sometimes the likes of Hornby and Bachmann do bring along their seconds/returns/bargains type stuff...
  21. Could you alter the numbers around so those that you physically want to mechanically lock another have adjacent lever numbers?
  22. Did it affect any Aircrew that you know of?
  23. Try explaining a back boiler behind an open fire to the youth of today, they struggle with the idea of no internet and just three TV channels. I mentioned hobbies the other day to a class and had to explain what sort of things people did because some weren't sure!
  24. A lick of paint, darkening the western region brown makes things look a bit fresher. I have also replaced the down spouts and the safety rails. I have also fitted a bulb so some of the detail might be more visable once wired onto the layout. Just the vent and finishing the slates to do and hopefully the ten year old model has been lifted a little.
