Indomitable026
Having a Shepherd Neame themed night. Just switched from their 1698 to a bottle of their "Brilliant Ale". Is it that obvious? I'm having a "Fireball" theme night...

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 4, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 4, 2015 (edited) This may be a really stupid idea, but I've wondered in the past whether the acid used to make circuit boards from PCB could be used to neatly remove a patch from the centre of sleepers/timbers? Has anyone tried this approach, or is it a really daft idea or perhaps not worth the hassle?Offsetting the break so it's where the edge of a baseplate would be less obvious and still allows a good joint with the solder. Etching loads of sleepers will take longer than just cutting i'd have thought as you need to first cover them in resist apart from the slice you want to remove then soak them and clean them. Indomitable026
Hot news. A much revised plan is on its way. Young Spams has come up with a peach of plan. Excellent. I think I need a good slapping with a wet fish
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted September 5, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 5, 2015 Keeping to the original footprint of 4' x 16': Or a version 4' longer: Possibly something between the two? All very draft and thrown together to illustrate an off-forum discussion.

Indomitable026
How many coaches will make up a normal rake, and what are their lengths? We are working on a maximum loop length to accommodate 1 loco, 4 coaches and a bogie wagon.
Indomitable026
FAB? Wrong show... Yes, hence the 'Not' don't worry my brain works in very strange ways (if you could call it work at all)
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 5, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 5, 2015 (edited) Was getting confused with measurements for a minute there are you going for the EDM MW's? Edited September 5, 2015 by PaulRhB
Indomitable026
Are you still talking 7mm with 4ft by 16in? You're going to need four ft for the passing loop with L&B coaches and loco in 7mm Currently, yes as minimum, but more likely we may be going out to 20' by 4' as per Chris's (2manyspams) latest sketch above. The boards are 2' wide and 4' deep
Indomitable026
We're actually heading towards a 5 foot loop length if we are running 4 coaches and a bogie van. So we will have to tweak the loop length up a little

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted September 5, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 5, 2015 Loops on the sketches are at least 6' long - more than enough for a scale 220' train.

It's me that can't count - I was forgetting the lines were two foot spacing, not one! Should I give up now...

RMweb Premium Mark Forrest Posted September 5, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 5, 2015 Much prefer the more gentle curve of the longer plan. Think it would look too cramped to get the scenic features you want within the space of the earlier plan. Think I worked out the coach length to be something like 245mm if I remember correctly. RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted September 5, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 5, 2015 You beat me to it. The platform was only really a low paved surface. It's a feature of many of the stations.

RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted September 5, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 5, 2015 I prefer the second plan, as longer and smoother curves. Yes, very lowe platforms. Still got chance to get out to Bratton - hopefully the weather will be ok tomorrow.....
