This DMU set would have had less than six weeks of service remaining.

47100 is named Merlin in that photo. Thus it's Stratford style with a touch of Tinsley as the loco was a Tinsley Speedlink/Railfreight Distribution loco when photographed. The name places it between 20 September 1989 and withdrawal in July 1991.

If only...

Paddington to Hull/Leeds with the return Leeds/Hull to Brighton.  Some of these type services were in the VXC plans but the SRA halted those sort of plans along with services VXC services from Middlesborough.

Good evening, everyone. I am sure you are right about that location being Oxmadike crossing, Mick. Sadly the captions in Flickr are often either in error or missing information.

Firstly we have another look at a train which is probably not what is stated in the caption in Flickr. I will just give the engine details and date. It is of 45119, at Gilberdyke, coming off the line from Doncaster, on the 5th October, 1985.

45119 Gilberdyke 0650 Paddington - Hull 5-10-85

Quick silly question, is there still much freight to and from Hull docks. I’m guessing coal imports have now long finished leaving possibly just steel to and from the dedicated handling facility at King George dock?

Steel,Gypsum & biomass are booked to run most week days to the docks but often run only once or twice a week depending on requirements.

Also the Tilcon stone train still runs from Rylstone to the Hull Dairycoates terminal.

The footbridge on Selby Street in the background has now been removed, presumably during last weekends blockade at Hull.

The second photo’ shows 29121, and 20214, at Scarborough, on a Pathfinder tour. No date is given or any other details. I don’t think Six Bells will be able to help identify this train.

The third photo’ is a study of a class 20 hauling a decent length train of unfitted minerals towards Gilberdyke, on the 15th December, 1980.

Good evening, everyone. First I must apologise about the slip up about the railtour from yesterday when the predictive text got me to put Yorkshire instead of York. It has now been corrected.

This evening we have four more photo’s to enjoy, courtesy of Murray Liston, John Turner, Chris, and John Law, all on Flickr.

The first one is a view of the Derwent Valley Light Railway in York, at the premises of Yorkshire Grain Driers Ltd, who had their own loco to shunt grain wagons around their Dunnington site. This 1930s design John Fowler 4100005 was built in 1948 for Reed Paper’s Colthrop Mill at Thatcham and was sold here in 1971.

It was named Churchill and apparently did not see too much use, the exhaust is covered by a black bag when photographed here on the 20th July, 1979.

Next we have a photo’ of 37250 about to cross St George's Road level crossing in Hull with a train of 16T mineral wagons, on the 14the May, 1983.

14/05/1983 - St George's Road crossing, Hull.

The third photo’ shows 55009, at Gilberdyke, with the 08:05 Kings Cross to Hull express on the 30th April, 1981.

55009 Gilberdyke with the 08:05 Kings Cross - Hull

Finally, we have a photo’ of 4468, Mallard, on The Scarborough Spa Express, in August, 1986, as it passes through Malton station.

Best regards,

Rob.

Churchil was used until the closure of the DVLR in 1981 and it was sold to the DVLR after the line closed. It is now on the DVLR at Murton. The exhaust was covered as its duties were seasonal.
