Photo's Of East Yorkshire Railways

Recommended Posts

Another pic kindly lent to me by Dave Holmes of Hessle MRG, his pic shows class 14s D9525 and D9552 on a rare visit of the class at Botanic Gardens depot on 3/3/67. As an electrician at Dairycoates Dave had travelled with them as there was a proposal to train Botanic Gardens staff on them but with the class proving troublesome and the class 20s moving in it never happened.

Hello, everyone. Firstly I would like to thank Mick for posting all those excellent photo's. Please post more when you able to.

Tonight, I have three photo's taken in August, 1976, of what remained of Market Weighton station. It was looking quite derelict!

Thank you for that photo, Keith53D. It shows how well designed the station building was at Cherry Burton, with a further example to be seen at Kipling Cotes. By the time of that photo, I think I am right in saying that the former signal box had finally been demolished.

With best regards,

Rob.

Junk that was still worth photographing though, its a nice pic and as I rather like them do you have any more?

Rob

Sorry no. I only used up one exposure on the thing.

The footplate crews in Hull certainly didn't like them and they quickly disappeared elsewhere before being withdrawn.

Hello, everyone. Tonight I am asking a question. I have been seeing a short film, taken from a car, of a ride through the town of Beverley.  It says it is from 1964. However, as can be seen, the level crossing at Flemingate has been converted to lifting barriers. I did not think that they had been fitted as early as that. So which year was that crossing converted to barriers? Please note the early flashing red lights at the crossing - no amber lights.

York Locomotive, the world's largest mechanical signalbox 295 levers, seen here in 1909. The locking frame would have been 125 feet long, and the overall length of the building approx. 150 feet, plus the access steps etc, so in all close on 200 feet.
