RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted October 11, 2015 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) so today i called into the model show at the heritage motor museum where i chanced upon alanbuttler giving scanning demonstrations with his 3D printing and design company "Modelau"as you may know alan is building the superb "oswestry work diorama" on here and has made a lot of components using a 3D scanner/printer as well as various steam era drivers/firemen using members of the SVR and Llangollen railway as modelshowever the range is lacking modern image (ie current scene) driver, until now, as it happened i called into the show on my way back from a night shift dropping ballast so had my hi-viz trousers on as well as colas top and aslef lanyard etc so alan took the oportunity to scan me in a few poses in modern workwear that he will be adding to his range at some pointthese pics are just of the projector screen in the room, alan will hopefully post better images when he recovers from the show!first up, this is a class 60/66/70 type pose, i tend to drive like that, leaning slightly on the armrest, hands linked, the slightly forward foot would be on the DSD (however you may need to shop my legs off depending on what loco you are fitting the handsome beast intonext up, shunt driver, about right for on 08, suitable for both sides depending which way you want the george clooney lookalike to be lookingand finally, ballast job pose, suitable for a 66, the seat back and base should be part of the print according to alan so its just a case of making a base or cutting the Bachmann seat base off and glueing sleeping beauty in place insteadim sure alan will be along to give a bit more info in due coursehttp://www.modelu3d.co.ukhope you like them, if you can think of any more poses i can get into should i see alan at a show again then leave some suggestions here Edited November 8, 2015 by big jim
pitbull1845
Excellent Jim; the last one is not too dissimilar to my work stand by pose. I can see lots of big jims arriving at my place in the distant future.
eastwestdivide
Oooh, so many ratings icons to choose from... What a great idea. I dread to think what happens if the operator clicks "Fill Holes" or "Remove Parts" with you still under the laser. Shades of "I expect you to die, Mr Bond" I think. legomanbiffo
Great idea Jim, and very funny! I especially like your 'posession' pose. I was well impressed with the scanning process, it's like science fiction. We're going to get some done of Charlie and me and legoman!

OldNick
Great to see that you got back later and had the 'ballast train' pose done. I was behind you inth queue when you had the 60//66/70 shot taken. Really looking forward to seeing the 3D prints. I can see a few places I could place myself on the club layout. F-UnitMad
Serious Question:- Any chance of these being done in 7mm scale? *thinks* the "08" pose will be ideal for - well, the Dapol 08, of course!! The figure might even be available before the loco!!! Silly Question:- How does one get the figure to change from "Line Possesion" pose to "Driving" pose, once one's model loco is moving??
Talltim
No one knows, you leave him there relaxing in his idling loco and go to bed and in the morning he is gone with his train and a normal service is running
