JeffP
When working like that, is one loco dragged dead?
RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted December 22, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 22, 2016 Not sure with the 68's, but the short-set with the 37's on does have both loco's powering. Would be interested to know if the 68's are the same. Cheers, Phil.
RMweb Gold russ p Posted December 24, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 24, 2016 The rear loco is in trail mode where the fire suppression systems work and sometimes the ETA but the loco does not provide power. 3805hp is enough for three coaches and a dead loco

RMweb Gold russ p Posted December 28, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2016 Were you one of the lads with camera poles at buckenham photographing the 1205?
Wayward Hayward
Nope, got the 1005 and 1036 at Whitlingham Park and then 1057 and 1117 at Brundall Gardens. Went home after that but probably should have stayed out considering the weather conditions. Edited December 28, 2016 by Wayward Hayward
RMweb Gold russ p Posted December 28, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2016 There was loads of people out yesterday I was on the 1205 and couldn't believe the number of lads taking pictures
Wayward Hayward
I didn't see anyone out but apparently there were 10 or so people at Brundall Gardens for the 1036 37's
11B
Well according to a friend on Facebook. The first class 88 is been delivered to Carlisle on Tuesday by road. His statement is copied and pasted below. 88002 apparently. "Not strictly rail I know but for anyone living near the M6 the first Sparkycat or 88 is enroute by road to Carlisle for delivery on Tuesday so should transit Preston area either late Monday or crack of Sparrows Tuesday. If not deemed relevant feel free to delete. The remainder are to ship in via Workington in two batches of 4 and 5 with the 7 new 68s not far behind" Ian Edited January 19, 2017 by 11B

RMweb Gold russ p Posted January 20, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 20, 2017 I see the headlights are refusing to have their pictures taken again! I'd love to know what causes this phenomenon. I went out with a mate for some beers yesterday happy to report the 20mph restriction at Witlingham has been removed

I'd love to know what causes this phenomenon. I went out with a mate for some beers yesterday happy to report the 20mph restriction at Witlingham has been removed The headlights strobe, very quickly, but the shutter speed of 1000s captures the flashing nature. I've also got them with one on, one off and both on.
RMweb Gold russ p Posted January 20, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 20, 2017 I've seen video footage of them where the lights appear to flash. You'd think with the lights strobing it would give people headaches when driving at night but I've not found this to be the case and I do the late turn probably more than anyone
Steadfast
Because the strobe rate of the LEDs is faster than the human eye can detect, presumably that's why it's not headache inducing. It's the same phenomena as when videoing a CRT screen it appears to scroll. I'd always wondered by computers and TVs in news footage were flickering when I was a kid Jo
RMweb Premium eldavo Posted January 20, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) They are probably LED lights and it's very common for them to be pulsed. The switching is too fast for the human eye to detect (normally) but obviously the camera spots it. You'll also notice it on modern cars when they are filmed. Beaten to it by Jo! Cheers Dave Edited January 20, 2017 by eldavo

Cheers Dave Maybe not the purpose in this application, but pulsing LEDs is actually a novel way of energy saving. Due to the way the human eye acts, a pulsed light can appear just as intense as a permanent light, therefore you can reduce the duty cycle of the LED without any perceived difference. The human eye can only perceive a light as pulsed below 60Hz (60 cycles a second), so provided the 68's headlight flash at a higher frequency you should not notice any strobing/flashing. RMweb Premium keefer Posted January 22, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2017 The same seems to happens with the destination screens on the front of units. Photos often show them being blank or blurred
RMweb Gold ruggedpeak Posted January 27, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 27, 2017 I have the "Diesel Hauled Passenger Trains - The Story of 2016" DVD and the flickering of the 68's lights is really obvious on that, looks like they are flasing lights rather than a normal headlight.
