Northern Rail Timetabled Steam On The S & C

I was greatly amused by the words 'I love S&C' - no doubt something which many PerWay engineers would either love or hate as the expression actually means 'I love switch & crossing' - as in pointwork.  If the definite article had been included in the sentence then 'I love the S&C' might have been rather more relevant to the subject.

Interesting too that either '(B)Rail'/liaR has jumped the gun or the whole thing has yet to be agreed with the other parties, wouldn't the first time that's happened (sometimes resulting in things not happening).

As an ex-P/W engineer from 1989/90 it always amuses me the way people reference the S&C. While S&C is more interesting than plain line, if you get to about noon on a Sunday still trying to get a crossover in which you started at 9pm on Saturday (due to the way it was fabricated of course) you really start to loathe S&C and Castleton works in particular!

Draft timings released

http://www.railmagazine.com/news/network/exclusive-draft-times-released-for-tornado-s-sandc-service-trains

I'll try to get to see the evening train

Any idea where the loco will be based, I assume Carnforth? Or a loop at Hellifield if it's only three days?

Overnighting at Appleby on the stub of the Warcop branch seems to be the rumoured option.

Cheers,

Mick

The 'S&C' website is now publishing the same times as of yesterday so presumably they think it's enough of a go-er to tell Joe Public

http://www.settle-carlisle.co.uk/tornado-on-the-sc/

Edit: Forgot to add, nothing in RTT yet

So further confirmation from both timings and the comment about reservations that these are not replacing the normal service (which is still shown on the National Rail inquiries site and no doubt on RTT)

S+C site says 'Britains newest Steam locomotive'.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyd_(locomotive)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GWR_steam_rail_motors#Number_93

and countless museum replicas of Pioneering steam stuff.

I'll get my coat...

Anyway, is DBS the operator or is it Northern itself?
