Ohhh. I did have my heart set on a BLT, but really tempted after looking at Trackplans...

Much freight on that line?

Binliners and stone to Pendleton and that's about it.

Invoke Rule 1....

Cheers,

Mick

A dodgy pic of Leander on the down fast line at Lancaster station.

Lets have a non-terminus station with an island platform

I don't have any photographs of Rotton Park Road (it closed in 1934), but it is an interesting station with an island platform in the middle of a passing loop for the single line.  The loop was added after the station had been built on the single line.  There are some good photographs on the Warwickshire Railways website.

I think this would make a good model.

A train passing a disused/closed station next please.

Cheers,

Mick

I spent my university years looking at this station.

Never understood why it wasn’t relaid as a 2 or 3 platform station given how busy it is as an island platform.

I have oodles of pictures of this place in the 90’s.. so if you need ideas on variety here’s some:

1. The place has its daily dose of DMUs for sure, but variety includes:

2. Binliner traffic, usually a 60

3. Parcels traffic to/from GUS Bolton 31 or 47, has produced an 08 from Longsight as LE to Bolton too.

4. Other freight has been diverted this way on the Moor side or Bolton line with 37s

5. WCML drags (47’s pulling 86’s/87/90 between Stockport and Preston)

6. 31 or 37s on Barrow and Blackpool Services

7. Scrap traffic to the yard opposite the binliner terminal (60 or 56)

8. 37’s on WCML diverted steel coil via Bolton to Preston

9. 31’s dragging failed 1st gen DMUs was commonplace

10. LE steam workings to/from Carnforth (at this time wcml wasn’t widely used for steam, locos would come down via Blackburn thru Victoria via Ashton moss to Stockport and down the Chester line)... I’ve seen everything on this line : 777,46203,70000, 34027,35028,71000,5407,3442,5690,850,4498 happy days then ! (Still is for ELR moves).

11. Manchester Glasgow workings usually a class 47.

12. The odd HST has been this way but that’s very rare, and always a railtour.

Then there was some notables.. Regional railways “Network Northwest” Rail days would see 20,26,31,37,47,56 all along here with RR mk1 or mk2 stock and we’re good fun.

Of course go back a few years, just before it’s creation and D200 was a regular, but red bank vans always produced a 40, 45s and 50s would show on Glasgow workings in the 70’s

I passed through the station hauled by a class 60 on Saturday 25 April 1992.  That was a great event, Longsight Open Day plus all that haulage, bagged the 60, 2 x 20s and a class 31 and I wasn't really trying!

Next: Your car parked outside a station

Didn't have a car at the time, so here's my "bitsa" bike in the early 80s, in Strood station car park, alongside my camera case and the rail-built barriers.

More of the same - your personal road transport at the station?

Keep going with the same subject.

It is the 24th September 1990, and the opening day of the new Worle Station.

As well as the Coombs minibus, which provided a short lived connecting service to North Worle,

my first car, an orange Ford Escort, can be seen parked to the right.

And the next photo will contain more personal transport,

cheers
