Sacred Bin Chicken

DSC05663.JPG.3a18613de9326314547a4b718ae01375.JPG

I should have added this is a wild bird in the central "Hyde Park in Sydney, a very busy town park completely surrounded by shops and major roads. I think it says a lot for a city that such a large bird can be simply left to get on with their urbanised lives quite unmolested. We had a lovely (free upgrade!) hotel room not far away with a large balcony - I was woken at day break by at least a pair of cockatoos fighting and screaming at one another on the balcony. I didn't get their number tags - many Sydney cockatoos are part of a citizen science experiment which follows these tagged birds and gives each a name - all available on the internet.

Yesterday evening  we heard the sound of a large aircraft using the flight path into Sydney that crosses above here. That was literally the first time since all this started 8 months or so ago that I've any kind of air traffic bigger than the small craft that use nearby Camden airport.

Couldn't see it in the clouds but there was much  exclaiming "A plane! A plane!" like we were castaways on some island.

We live under one of the standard routes to and from the North. Subjectively, I would say that the level of traffic is about 10% of what it was before March. My partner has an app which tells her the operator of each flight, its origin and destination. Many are freighters.

From The Age today. I should clarify a few points before you read the following.

It is Grand Final day for the Australian Rules Football. Adelaide is about 700km from Geelong by car (8 hour drive) and requires crossing a state border, which is currently closed due to Covid 19.

Bad luck with the pub booking By Zach Hope

You wouldn't want to be this bloke today.

One unlucky, or unthinking, Victorian punter thought he had it all sorted when he booked his grand final table at the Elephant and Castle Hotel more than a month ago.

But there was a problem. A pretty big one.

Instead of booking at the Geelong venue, he'd somehow managed to reserve a table for four at the unrelated Adelaide pub of the same name. That's a long and very illegal drive.

Good job he didn't try to book at the one in West Chiltington, West Sussex, England (which used to be a very fine hostelry but closed down several years ago).

Loads of Glaswegians did similar last week for the Old Firm Derby.

Due to the pubs in parts of Scotland being closed they booked hotels and tables in Blackpool. Only to find that Blackpool was going into Tier Three lockdown and most of the pubs were closed. Only eateries are open and they don't tend to show football.

For those that fear coming to Australia be warned.  Cats were defeated by Tigers.  As one might expect really.

If that needs explaining you will have to re-apply for your entry visa :jester:

That's not the same thing at all. The Australian guy intended to book at table at his local Geelong hotel, but messed up and booked an Adelaide hotel instead!

The Glaswegians when they booked, weren't to know that the circumstances had changed AFTER they booked.

As an aside, it's good to see Rangers win at Parkhead, surely a sign that they have arrived back in the Scottish Premier League!

This person in NSW couldn't care less about yesterday's aerial ping pong.

Which, in the event of a tie, will be decided by adding up the number of serious criminal charges pending against each team's players, and awarding the match to the side facing the longest aggregate potential jail time :jester:

What if that's also a tie?
