OO gauge APT, all systems go!!

With the recent upswing in more orders for the OO gauge APT, DJM & DToS have decided that as we are only 22 sales short of the break even figure, we should go ahead and make a full start on this iconic train. By doing this more crowdfunders will sign up and push us over the line.

So with this in mind, we are getting all main groups to agree on a date to be confirmed soon due to a double booking at Crewe the previous advertised date will not be available,so the revised date is Saturday 2nd June 2018
Access will be for press and crowd funders only

The day will consist of the scanning of 3 / 4 coaches of the train that is on site, with the cloud scan visible for viewing almost immediately.
The scanning company will have representatives on site to talk to anyone interested in the process, and will be giving (subject to availability) a presentation on scanning, its accuracy, and how the initial scan is turned into something that can be used for conversion into a scale model.

There will also be a presentation by Dave Jones (DJModels) about the process involved in getting the model to the modellers layouts, design, specifications etc.

Michael Worrall from Durham Trains of Stanley, who’s idea this originally was, will also be in attendance to answer questions.

Crewe Heritage Centre's own APT expert, Brian Porter, will be on hand to chat about the trains ongoing preservation, and the new power car received recently from the closed Coventry Rail Centre.

Kit Spackman (Mr APT) will also be on hand to talk about the real thing, and testing / design

We also hope that Peter Purves, of BBC Blue Peter, will be giving a short talk on the APT (Peter was on the first press run of the 'P' train, and his film can be seen on U-Tube).

A small Lunch with hot and cold drinks will be served from the buffet of the APT for 'lunch on the train' while afterwards a demonstration with everyone on board will take place of the tilt system.

You will also have full and private access to the Crewe Heritage Centre, and balcony overlooking Crewe Station and approaches from an elevated vantage point, so don't forget your camera!

Mike Lenz of Crewe Heritage Centre will also be attending and will be free to answer any questions you may have about the Centre and their forthcoming celebrations for their anniversary.

The day will start at around 10.30am, and will finish at approximately 4.30pm and only be available to OO gauge crowdfunders and there will be no charge for entry, but you will need to book in before hand and check in with the entrance upon arrival so that we can confirm numbers attending.

With this in mind, within the next 2 weeks deposit invoices will start going out for 25% of each models price to allow work to start in earnest.

Hi Steven,

 

Good point and yes, the N gauge crowdfunders will get their own party, including everything except the scanning, but will get to see cad/cams how they are developed, etc, but they will get a presentation by the scanning company and everything else (availability notwithstanding) that the OO guys will get.

Would love to attend, but I have a date in Trier with 14 steam locomotives running over 8400 km of passenger workings in a 5 day mega once in a decade Mainline steam event. I suspect I might not be alone. ;-)

Could the N gauge guys get a spurt on and be say only 22 short of the go live figure in the next few weeks? That would give Dave a non alcoholic induced headache.

 

For me the class 92 and the King are booked so as nice an APT would be the wallet won’t allow, not at almost 17 Rand to the Pound.

I guess at the moment the scanning happens, the OO backers will have paid £250 while the N gauge ones have not yet spent anything as it is not known if it will go ahead or not. So signed up yes, actually paid no.

 

On the other hand, I suspect only a few will actually take a day out to go to the scanning party. Who knows maybe they will decide to compliment it with N gauge backers as well.

I (n gauge hopeful)  would be prepared to make a financial contribution to the cost of the event by paying a "ticket price" as it sounds a great day out. Maybe could be offset against the cost of the N gauge APT if it ever comes to fruition.

1).  After the other 22 crowdfunders take places, will the model remain open until the original cut off date?  May I think?

 

2).  The 1st installment invoice to be sent in a couple of weeks- when will the deadline be for 1st payments? Is it still June?

 

3).  Any news on the possibility of offering 370003/006 with full yellow fronts? Both DJM-APT-OO-0003 and  DJM-APT-OO-0006 could be offered with it.

Hi, thanks for the mail , and as a heads up to everyone from midday today (Thursday) I’m away for a few days attending my fathers funeral (it’s taken over a month since he died, and supporting my mother and son etc, so please bear with me if I don’t answer other questions quickly.

 

Anyway, to answer yours mate....

1) crowdfunding will be kept open until the party, basically to allow any other orders to come through as we are still slightly short, but also if we make the figure, to get a few extra in the knowledge that they will cover the ‘unknown factor’ in all this......extra shipping costs, price rises, etc.

2) deadline for first payments will be April 30th as we want to go into the ‘party’ with everyone ‘one board’ (excuse the pun)

 

3) we will ask but as it’s early days yet we won’t ask until we are close to manufacture. I think the Chinese will say no, but if they say yes, rest assured the limited production run of double or less figures WILL raise the price. I know it’s easy to suggest ‘just take some off the production line’ but there’s the revised artwork, new masks, tampo time etc.

This is why the Chinese are so good at mass production, but specialist brass in Korea for example, guys can do very limited items.

Will keep everyone posted when I start chatting about them, to them.
