RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted February 18, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 18, 2019 I managed to get some more done on the back corner, last night, which I would have posted, but RMWeb was having a lie down... The next section of wall just needs the cap stones adding, but is painted. In addition, I've done a bit of landscaping to add the track from the gate up the field. I decided to move the grounded van, and make it part of a farm, rather than being on railway property, so this is where it is planted for now. Finally, a view round the back of the weighbridge hut. There will be a wall seperating this from the field. That's all for now, thanks for looking, Al. 13 2
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted February 23, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 23, 2019 You may remember that some time ago I talked about making a yard crane for the layout. After looking at all the options I decided to use most of the parts of the Peco kit. I took this decision, as I recognised that to create a convincing frame with all the mechanism meshing properly would be a tricky thing to do as a scratch build. However, the Peco kit comes with an "H" girder metal jib, so I was going to replace that with round styrene tube to more nearly match the wooden jib like the one at Conwy. Having built it, however, It was really too large and overpowering for the layout, so as an alternative I've modelled it without the jib, as a derelict mechanism. This isn't finally planted, as I'm still not sure whether it really adds anything to the layout. I'll leave it for now, and see if it grows on me... RMweb Gold Popular Post Alister_G Posted February 23, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 23, 2019 Anyway, today, I visited Ladmanlow, and took some photos as an anonymous J94 pottered about the yard: Thanks for looking, Al. 26

RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24, 2019 Hi Al, really nice set of photos, I like the idea of the derelict crane fits in well. All the best Adrian. 2
Andrew P
Like Adrian, I too like the idea of the derelict crane, it does add the look of a once busy, but now derelict area. 1
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted February 24, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24, 2019 Thanks very much all of you for your encouraging comments, it means a lot to me. I'm warming to the derelict crane, but I'm not so fond of the big base it sits on, so I might substitute a smaller concrete plinth, and add a load of grass round it. RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24, 2019 Hi Al, you can almost hear the rattling and banging of that stock which has seen better days. The shadows are lengthening in more ways than one. 1
sulzer27jd
Where has this been hiding? Found my way here today and had to stay a while. Very nice, simple idea, well executed with a lot of atmosphere. Well done.

Andrew P
Small broken / cracked concrete base as you said, some black grease around the gears / cogs and LOADS of weeds, it will then almost disappear into the undergrowth mate. 1

Sounds good Andy, How's this? So first it's hairspray time, I masked up an area and drowned it in hairspray, then applied various lengths of static grass: Then I glued down the new concrete base, and applied some tufts of longer grass: And finally fitted the mechanism to the pillar: here's a nice moody shot of the result... I'm a lot more pleased with that! Thanks for looking, Al. 16

I've tried to do as you said and apply some appearance of oil/grease round the bearings, not sure how successful this is: Al. 13

RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted February 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 25, 2019 Afternoon Al. This is all very timely. I am looking to add a yard crane jobbie to Bleat Wharf. Is this the Wills example? Rob
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted February 25, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 25, 2019 (edited) Hi Rob, This is the Peco whosit, of the two I found it to be more detailed than the Wills one. https://www.track-shack.com/acatalog/Peco-Lineside-LK-35-OO-Scale-Yard-Crane-Kit-Peco-Lineside-LK-35.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIh8qVlpjX4AIVBeJ3Ch2ddwONEAQYASABEgI4-vD_BwE Al Edited February 25, 2019 by Alister_G 1
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted February 27, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2019 On Kev's Little Muddle, he's been playing with an online photo editor, which creates old postcard type images from photos. The site is http://funny.pho.to/old-photo-effect/ and the results can look like this: Which is pretty good, isn't it? Al. 6

RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted February 27, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2019 Hi Al, Like the photo effects, is there a programme that if your old and wrinkly already (like me), can reverse it and make you look modern and trendy. All the best Adrian. 1
