Might I gently remind all that there are threads for Coronavirus and it's impact just a click or two away from here. I know that it's heartening if the growth curve looks to be easing but I wouldn't want to get side tracked into the sort of stuff which despite being well intentioned inadvertently ratchets up the anxiety for some.

I believe that stories of vibrator and bottle insertions abound in the NHS - certainly nursing friends of mine have a few tales. Shirley these tales are generic and widely shared rather than each teller having been involved? Excuse me whilst I adjust the ragy end of a pineapple up someone else's passage.

On a positive note I think the upturn in footfall the local shops are seeing could bode well for them in the future as new customers keep using them going forward, and I like what I hear about them  keeping stock in reserve for those regular customers who most need it  :drink_mini:

Thanks for that :) It led me to watch another old archived film. I was searching for the original Night Mail film but this one proved to be just as interesting for railway content..

Apoligies for straying away from thread content.

Actually buddy, thanks a bunch as this sort of thing is what I hoped the content would be most of the time, however other's needs are to discuss stuff that just repeats the general discussions elsewhere and on the damn media. Hey ho, I can scroll on of course but will give it a little while longer as the OP was thoughtful enough to start this thread, however my anxiety levels are high enough just now so I won't be here much longer I suspect. Sorry and all that but this duck needs distraction not news.

No apology needed, Roger; never seen that one before and rather enjoyed it.

I've just watched Hitchin to Camden Road from the cab of a DEMU.

Very enjoyable. Reminds me of the days in the 1960s when views ahead were possible through the DMU windows, until the drivers started to lower the blinds.

Those blinds were very useful, otherwise I would have got some very odd looks when cabbing along with my Uncle :good_mini:

About 8 minutes in the narrative of the cleaners had me wondering what went on in the 1940s, apparently the untidiest passengers were "smokers and bum munchers".

Took me a couple of seconds to realise my hearing error.

Can I ask that people wanting to comment about panic buying post in the relevant thread, and NOT in this one? Getting to be time to start reporting posts if it doesn't stop…

(And every post about panic buying just makes it even worse.)

It's likely that the roads will be much safer than usual as everyone will be working from home and not going out to the pub...

I've just go back from a socially  distanced two-hour e-bike ride in the Dark Peak. Still plenty of eejits on the road, the last of whom pulled out round me while I was in the 'bike box' with the traffic lights on red. He drove straight across the box and stop line then across me to turn left as I started off when the lights changed.

Some places are eerily quiet but in others the masses are treating it like a Bank Holiday Monday.

Apologies for my earlier comment about selfish b*tards then.

After my gig on Tuesday as house bassplayer at a weekly jam/open mic night I have been doing for over 5 years, I decided that in the current climate I could no longer risk my health. I don't like letting anyone down but on Friday morning I rang around and cancelled all my commitments. One being a week in Lindos in June which I have just shelled out on a new passport for, my last one expired in 2000. I apologised to everyone and felt bad doing this but knew it was best for me as I have a respiratory condition.

I wish I had waited a few hours as Boris would have done the deed for me.

Living on my own I am used to isolation so I will just sit at home and play with myself.

The first paragraph deserves a Sympathy / Support rating, the last sentence resulted in my wanting to apply the Smile rating. Best wishes anyway Pete!

Hoping Neil will be OK with this? My Daughter in Law is involved in Counselling in various ways, but specialises in areas if Anxiety and Depressive illnesses. She has just returned to work in her 'Consulting Rooms' that were badly damaged in the recent floods in Hereford.  That was challenging enough and now she is dealing with so many of her Clients that are in great 'difficulty' about the situation we are hopefully avoiding talking about directly  and also many who are just like us, keeping isolated. Well, she is establishing various online opportunities for face to face but not in person at her 'Office'.

She has also sent a personal message to her Clients setting them a challenge. The main one is that they can write or talk about anything, but they must not mention the 'you know what' words. They can mention what is happening to them because of it  but not the actual name(s) of you know what.  Also she has set each person their personal goal of finding 5 really great and positive things that they experience or see/feel/ hear/think,  that they write down every day, yup, every day. It can be repetitive such as "I woke up...…" (that's one of my choices by the way, she suggested nothing) but at least one thing must be a new positive every day. The things can be written down at any time during the day.

I thought that was such a great thing that I would mention it here. Not with my DIL but in the recent past I have benefitted hugely from quite a few levels of Mental Health support as a particular condition I have  suffered from for about 6 years, 'creates' the lack of chemicals to the Brain that result in 'issues'.

Being positive without medication is particularly difficult but I have manged the last two years without that chemical support. sadly, this situation has triggered my problems in a bog way and that's why I am maybe touchy about some of the posts on here....my apologies.

Anyway, I thought her idea(s) were really excellent so I would share them here.

I had no idea what a capot was, so did some Googling and found it was a capo, but irrespective of that, it took me here and music heaven. I can’t play anything, but have total respect for the lead guitarists who have made music that has stayed with me my whole life.

Just in the same way guys can build exquisite pointwork, wonderful loco’s and beautiful buildings, I can only stand in awe of extreme talent.

This was right up there, so what started as ignorance on my part lead to the most enjoyable part of my day.

Fabulous.....

Over here, confusingly, a capot anglais is what we might gently refer to as a - er - letter from France. Each country blames the other for this really quite useful invention!
