My old kit one has stood up well here, dimensionally matches the rtr model.

Just a quick question, wasnt the red one supposed to come with Francis nameplates ?

What's the origin of the kit?

it’s not on the spec list and I just had the promised etch works plates.

Interestingly, Rails has Victory listed as coming with "Etched works plates fret with all 10 works numbers" which may be old/inaccurate information. I plan on ordering a proper numbered works plates from LRS though for the ROD.

The original intention was to do a fret of 10 works numbers (as the 7mm Minerva Victory comes with) but after doing some tests we felt the difference wasn't really discernible enough. If anyone would like to try a specific works number drop me a PM and I can sort something out.

FRANCIS nameplates are probably best served by the Serif B style from Light Railway Stores and don't forget you have a custom etch discount code in the notes.

My green loco arrived just before we had to go to Anglesey for a Christening, so I didn't have chance for a proper look, but since we got back, wow! An absolutely fantastic model, and such a wonderful canvas for some customisation! The extra tool boxes are a lovely touch (and they won't all find their way onto this loco, but will elsewhere I'm sure!)

So, with the tool boxes in mind, I set to work investigating where a couple could go. Using a bit of scrap plasticard, I've fabricated a shelf for the back of the cab, with a couple of toolboxes on, and I dare say a few other items may end up on there. I did however not take into account the handbrake standard, so will have to make a couple of adjustments!

A ModelU crew will appear in due course, along with some nameplates, red coupling rods and a bit of light weathering which should finish it off nicely.

Very much looking forward to the sound chip arriving in due course, and the worksplates (which were missing from the box)

So tempted by a second one for a Lambton conversion!

Cheers

Thanks, not one for being chastised unjustly ! I decided to re-check my facts, especially as others are piling in…

I’ll just leave this here - fresh from prototyping the first test print of the Lambton cut down cab conversion…

Come and see it in the flesh at Warley this weekend! Stand A12, opposite Kernow.

Presumably, the chimney and dome will require shortening / replacing to conform to the restricted cab profile.

Having been at Sunderland Polytechnic at the relevant period, I can vouch for the confined nature of the tunnel that gave access to the coal loading staithes.

Yes a little, from the pics of the original I've seen, both were slightly shorter, but still the tallest feature(s) of the loco.

Yeah they are certainly not significantly shortened - presumably the restriction was in the corners of the loading gauge rather than the overall height.

Egg shaped tunnel I believe.

29, 5, and any others I've pictured, still had (relatively) tall chimneys. Would you like me to check the drawings I've got for chimney height vs the cab height and cab curvature?

Okay, so from my drawings, no.5 is 155" tall to chimney top, and 140.5" to cab roof top.

29 is 154" to chimney top, and 142" to the top of its cab. The cab is 51.75" radius about the boiler centreline.

Victory is 153.75" to top of chimney.

According to LLT, victory no. 41 was 12'10 tall, which is 51.33mm in 4mm scale, vs PI victory at 51.25mm, so if it was shortened, it probably werent on the chimney. Dome might have had a chop down mind. It was tall shouldered.

41 was a camera shy sod in comparison to 5 and 29 and the austerities, so difficult to say for sure.

RCTS have a pretty good photo of 41, the chimney looks about right height-wise to me although it is the tapered rather than straight sided type, think the capuchon is a bit smaller.

From this pic (and one on RmWeb "60s industrial steam" page 3), I believe that the lambton victory used the same cab methodology as no.29, I.e the cab profile was a radius about the boiler centreline.

Thanks. Paul.

Just bagged this during eBay power hour £88 after various nectar and TopCashback promotions

ill Be honest and say I didn’t know anything about this loco until a couple of weeks back when I stumbled on this thread, I really like the look of the red one but I wasn’t going to turn this one down for the price!
