Geoff Endacott
Does anyone know more about this http://cgi.ebay.co.u...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT layout? It may be a stunning exhibition layout, but there is only one general photo of the layout and two pictures of rather ordinary tracks leading to tunnels. The seller doesn't seem to be giving too much information about a 26 foot long layout on ten boards which has been exhibited locally. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted June 1, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 1, 2010 'Accurate in every detail' would, I suggest, contravene the Trades Description Act if that signalbox and loco shed are any guide. Amazing how some people seek to flog things for which they seem incapable of providing even a few good pictures. RMWeb is awash with evidence of modellers wielding a camera to good effect, yet here is a large layout offered for sale with three small and unhelpful snaps, which are bound to limit interest. I love the "exhibited at regional level" claim - which region, and who decides on levels?
Leicester Thumper
from the pathetic pictures we have, it looks pretty ok actually, In mind this guy is a new ebay user with a rating of zero.

I think the problem is he claims its "accurate in every detail" and from the limited views that patently is not the case* so what else is not quite as claimed ? *The signal box is not correct
Penlan
The seller is in the Newton Abbott area, which I believe Captain Kernow and the DRAG crew are somewhat local to, perhaps they could pop in and see what it's like.......... Penlan

10800
Couldn't see an awful lot there that shouted 'Ilfracombe' at me!
RMweb Gold JohnR Posted June 2, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2010 The main photo looks odd - the left hand side seems OK, but there appears to be a branch line leading in from the right, behind the turntable.
RMweb Gold griffgriff Posted June 2, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2010 ... what do you think the reserve might be? ... (I know its above 99p)
darren01
well thats a part of Ilfracombe i have never seen , what track plan did he use.
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted June 3, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3, 2010 BUYER BEWARE! The images do not closely resemble the Ilfracombe I know and used when the railway was open. The seller has no history (Feedback 0) and is selling a fairly substantial item. No doubt for a fairly substantial sum. As a large layout which it is claimed has been exhibited has anyone else here ever seen it? I am surprised at the "Reserve" option being available as many EBay sites have withdrawn this option for most categories. It doesn't sound quite right to me. If it smells fishy it may be fishy. Or at least not what it is claimed to be.
edcayton
I'd have thought that a fishy smell would add realism to a seaside terminus. Ed
deltic56
The layout does exist I have seen it in the flesh. I cannot comment on the accuracy of the track layout as I do not know the prototype. Please bear in mind that compromises have to made to fit layouts into the space available. Anyone who went to the Clevedon show in March organised by the Nailsea Club would have seen it. Steve K
From what can be seen in the appalling photos, parts of it look quite nice. It may well be a perfectly good model of somewhere... At least, if you did buy it, the good thing is that you'd be able to give it the once-over on collection. It's not as if bits are going to get lost or damaged (or made to look less lke Ilfracombe) in the post.
Kenton
If the baseboards are well made, the code 100 track recoverable (why code 100?) perhaps one or two other bits - a reserve means minimum of at least £50 so it may have some redeeming features - if you have use of a van and live nearby to collect. Always so - so difficult to value a layout - someone must have spent hours of their time putting this one together - we can all value our time but what someone sees as value in the layout is often very different. I sometimes wish that the sellers of layouts put at least a price guide on what they think is reasonable value - rather than leaving it to open market speculation, possibly receiving lower or no bids at all. The alternative to ebay is carting it off for landfill.
RMweb Gold Colin_McLeod Posted June 3, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3, 2010 I asked the seller if he would accept Pay Pal. He said No.

RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted June 3, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3, 2010 Under ebay's terms of use I believe it's now compulsory for sellers to accept PayPal? Except for pick-up only items and a few specialised categories where it would be inappropriate such as homes and vehicles. This is a pick-up only item. deltic56
The asking price was whispered to be over four figures. No not £50.50p the other four figures.
47707 Holyrood
He wants a 4 figure sum and gives 3 basically crap and very very basic photo's. A near 30 foot layout.... Id have a photo of each board on there. At the end of the day it helps to promote your item too.
Ragtag
Except for pick-up only items and a few specialised categories where it would be inappropriate such as homes and vehicles. This is a pick-up only item. Thanks for clarifying. Nevertheless, the auction page still shows the seller as accepting PayPal
deltic56
I think that when you join ebay and start to sell you have to join paypal, BUT if you only do payment on collection you do not have to accept it.
