.... a few of us commented on the early "autumn" our local woods seemed to be experiencing....

Plenty of fallen leaves around here - and lots of them still green ...................... but they won't be any sort of hazard on the railway 'til we get some of that wet stuff too : used to be called 'rain' if I remember rightly !!?!

Could this be a weedkiller train, rather than a RHTT?

That is a different train, and according to Big Jim of this parish, it isn't called a weedkiller train anymore, probably because it isn't PC to kill weeds anymore....

This is a poor photo of the "Sprayer" passing my local station last May

If it's only a training run, do they spray chemicals or just water?

I think the leaf jetting is only water even for the real thing

Yep only water even in season.

The sandite, or "traction grip modification gel" or whatever Network Rail call it these days is a sticky sandy paste, applied from a different module which isn't present on the set in the photos. On the sets that do apply it, you wouldn't see any spray of anything noticeable from the lienside.

The nearest 20ft module in this photo is a sandite module.

IIRC, 3Sxx headcodes are sandite duties and 3Jxx are water jets.

I thought the same, but there's no Sandite modules in the rake !!

Is your local RHTT duty normally an S code?

I'm sure it's been a 'S' code for at least the last couple of years.

But it's been 5 tanks and a jetting unit, no sandite modules.

Cheers,

Phil.

I always assumed the same, but apparently doesn't apply to all sets. Someone posted the ones it doesn't apply to on the wnxx forum last year from memory

I should've known really, because our local set at work is a Juliet, but has Sandite modules...

As the RHTT season is now underway, here are a several from 3rd October 2022...

Network Rail Windhoff multi-purpose vehicle DR98954 leading DR98904 at Deighton with 3S08, Wigan LIP to Wigan LIP, via parts of east Lancashire and West Yorkshire.

In previous years 3S08 reversed in Huddersfield station, but this years diagram sees the working continue eastwards to Bradley Junction and Bradley Wood Junction to reverse on the Calder Valley line at Greetland Junction.  So a short time later the pair, with DR98904 now leading pass back though Deighton heading west towards Huddersfield.

Also on 3rd October 2022, Colas 66849 Wylam Dilly passes through Brighouse with 3S14, Grimsby Town to York Thrall Europa, via lines in East, South, West and North Yorkshire...

...with 66847 Terry Baker on the other end of the RHTT set.
