Morning all,

With just 21 days to the great day, a couple of reminders for our visitors.

Entry

SWAG Members Day remains a FREE to enter event.

BUT...There are running costs associated with the day.....

A donation made via the various receptacles located around the hall will help to ensure we can repeat this in 2024. Please drop in whatever you can afford.

WE DO NOT SEEK TO MAKE PROFIT. ONLY TO COVER OUR RUNNING COSTS.

Card payments.........

All our traders will be able to take card payments on the day as will the bring and buy.

Catering

Purchases from our Crack Catering Team for teas, coffees, CAKE etc will be CASH only.

Rob.

Did someone mention cakes...again...

...oh yes you did...

... the catering department does rely on the kind donations of cakes to be able offer / coerce / arm twist / continually up  sell on the day, cakes of all types and sizes and even dare I say it with vegetables in (good for the five a day) will be gratefully received.

Thank you all in advance.

Spring is almost here and that can only mean one thing – the SWAG Day at Taunton is about to take place.

We all know what a very special, nay unique, model railway event this is. Some come because of the chance to meet RMWeb friends and enjoy face to face conversations and banter, some for the high-quality models, layouts and displays, some for the demonstrations and brilliant inspirational ideas and some for the specialist retailers. Many come for the Pasties and Cake but let’s be honest, most come for the amazing Bring and Buy sale.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to shift some of those items that have been in your ‘To do’ drawers for too long but could very well be just the thing another enthusiast would give their right arm to take home – well maybe not their right arm but you know what I mean!

The sales will also help a good cause and 10% will go to the charity that is chosen each year.

So please have a good look through your modelling stores and bookshelves and look out those items (no tat please) that you would like to contribute to this worthwhile upcycling event.

Attached is a form that we hope covers all the necessary details that you can download and print off and bring with your items for sale on the 23rd.

Please do make use of this thread to advertise any special items you would like to promote and that will be available for purchase at SWAG this year.

We will be able to accept card payments on the day, but cash is always welcome, gold bars even more so!

Happy sorting and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to PM me.

All the best

Godfrey

So as Godfrey suggests, please check your Cupboards of Crustiness, Shelves of Despair, Boxes of Gloom and Pockets of Eternal Fluff for those nuggets and gems that you would be happy to pass on.

Remember. A percentage of each sale will form part of the overall donation made to charity by the event.

I thank you.

Rob.

Whilst on the subject of telephones (sheep for the use of), has anyone else noticed that SWAG day coincides with the day that the government has decided to test the emergency notification system to mobile phones.

https://www.gov.uk/alerts

That could cause rather more of a disturbance than a fleet of DCC sound fitted Deltics turned up to 11.

Could get interesting if anybody is using their phone to control their trains.

Like everything else related to IT that the government touches, it will inevitably take a couple of years to get this to work the way they expect.

I think I'll leave my phone at home that day, or switch the ruddy thing off....

Ladies, Gentlemen and those of other preferred designations.

On Monday I was advised of the unexpected passing of a friend’s best friend. A chap whom I had met a couple of times.

My friend, whose best friend the deceased had been, has asked that I accompany her when he is laid to rest.

You can guess the date.

It is, therefore, with due sadness and respect that I shall not be able to join this year’s SWAG-fest. There will be a spare pasty up for grabs.

make a loud siren-like sound, even if it’s set on silent"

Wonder how many heart attacks that might trigger....?!

Given the age profile of SWAG members should we have an ambulance on speed dial, has this been included in the risk assessment?

I've decided to leave mine in the car until after the "stick your head between your knees and kiss your ar5e goodbye" trial is over.

There's bound to be at least one operative phone in the hall so we should all get the message....😇

EDIT: Just seen the news it will happen at 3pm.
