That's all I was told as my gen "area" covers the southern end of the S&C.

 

No idea about the N&C.

60087 is heading north LE to Petteril Bridge via the S&C

60087 didn't return south the same day, but has done so today 31/10/22. (Also posted in 60 thread)

There aren't many recovered tanks there.

 

On the national rail website the date for the line re-opening seems to be a (very) movable feast.  Recently it was saying next Monday but now is saying closed until further notice as they do not have 'a robust estimate' for the line to reopen.

That would be because the derailment happened towards the rear of the train.

 

The front of the train has been moved away into Carlisle - the wagons you see are the rearmost ones which, after re-railing were fit to be extracted southwards.

 

The rest of the wagons are down the bank / in the river and will need to be extracted by mobile crane (once they can find firm enough ground to erect it on).

Well if they need to provide a firm sub structure, they have two of the materials on site now, just need to add sand...

The front 7 wagons had already left the crash site north to kingmoor earlier in the week, as Phil says the other 3 are still off the rails and these 2 are the unaffected rear wagons , i believe they we’re jacked over from the down line to the up by the DB re-railing team using jacks, that I would have love to have seen!

 

I suspect the wagons that are still off the tracks are unlikely to see rails again, most likely removed by road, certainly the one upside down in the river

 

Selfishly I am slightly gutted I’ve got the jobs I have this week as that move back to clitheroe was uncovered yesterday, I offered to do it but it would have messed up the rest of my weeks work!

I've seen a distant image of the site, showing two wagons on the up side.

Supposedly being used to take the cement that is being pumped out of the two in the river

As it's gone a bit quiet , here's a few pic's taken 55 years ago from the Cumbrian Railways Association Library of the scene of the accident .

2) Petteril Bridge junction Signal Box  Aug 67 - To the left of the box is the site of the Midland goods sheds , later BRS with the Green parcel vans , the remains of the foundations for the bridge crossing the river to the goods shed are still visible when you walk along the river bank on the north side.

Hope these are of interest , as a kid I used to sneak onto the remains of the goods yards here & at Upperby across London Road.

The Cumbrian Railways Association site is well worth a visit .

A Huge Crane is now on site ready for lifting ,it looks to be placed on the site of the old British Fuels coal depot where my Dad used to work in the 70's on the thing he called the Ostrich, I hope it's  still standing in the morning as it's rather windy up here .

 

I came across this 1912 track plan of the area this evening , it covers Durranhill sidings to Petteril Bridge junction -

Gearing up for production of 3-5 wagons may be more costly.

Someone will probably have done the maths.

I walked from Petteril Terrace to Durranhill shed along the footpath from there many times in the the 1950s
