Moderators Popular Post AY Mod Posted November 26, 2022 Moderators Popular Post Share Posted November 26, 2022 Rapido UK announces new ‘OO’ gauge ‘B-Set’ coaches • All-new Diagram E140 coaches • Available in twin-packs • UK designed The Great Western Railway operated a number of classic branch line trains but one of the most recognisable was the ‘B-Set’, a pair of non-corridor Brake Composites coupled together. Rapido Trains UK is delighted to bring a 21st Century rendition of the ‘B-Set’ to modellers. It is to produce the Diagram E140, which was introduced in 1930. These vehicles sported a guard’s compartment, a single First Class compartment and five Third Class compartments. The coaches were close coupled in a fixed formation with the brake compartments on the outer ends. The Dia. 140s were longer and wider than previous designs and necessitated recessed door handles and guard’s doors. They ran on 7ft wheelbase bogies. A total of 41 sets of Dia. E140 coaches were built. Primarily allocated to the Bristol Division, Dia. 140s could be found further afield, from Cardiff and Taunton to Birmingham and Worcester… not to mention those classic Devon and Cornish branch lines so beloved by modellers! As many of these coaches ran on specific routes, they often received set markings for the location on the ends adjacent to the brake compartments. Rapido’s all-new Dia. E140 has been designed in the UK, from original works drawings. The models feature the usual level of Rapido detail inside and out including etched luggage racks, correct details in First and Third and Guard’s compartments and complete underframe detail. It is expected that the order book will open by the end of the year and that tooling will start early 2023. Model Factfile: ‘OO’ gauge GWR Dia. RMweb Premium Mike_Walker Posted November 26, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 26, 2022 Just a thought... If Rapido are really clever in their design they will allow for future runs with 9' bogies and, he presto, a E145 variant. 1 4
sdh-stbriavels
Brilliant news, but can someone clarify with regards to the’post war livery’, is this post 1st world war? I thought the post world war 2 livery was ‘Great Western’ and twin city crest, whereas the’GWR’ and crest was up to mid 30’s

County of Yorkshire
Derails models have announced an exclusive version of these: https://derails.co.uk/derails-b-set?search=946 It’s a set in GWR shirtbutton without destination markings - i.e a blank canvass. I think I will partake! CoY 2

chrisf
It is a pity that none of the other B set designs was chosen instead. Chris 1 2

RMweb Gold 57xx Posted November 26, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2022 Nope, not interested at all. Honest. Nope, I've got 3 sets of Airfix B sets, why would I need a modern accurate version? 1 2

RMweb Gold D9020 Nimbus Posted November 26, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2022 I'm only surprised these haven't been done sooner! I do query the inclusion of the luggage racks on these models — can they actually even be seen when the model is on the layout? I suspect not. (Comment applies to other models with such details too.)

I am currently building a 1/200 model of the Titanic. I am going to a fair bit of effort with internal detailing with furniture and people etc. This will likely never be seen again once the model is finished but I know it’s there. That’s the point with detailing like this. Edited November 26, 2022 by Hilux5972

wombatofludham
It's a shame the "Dolgellau" layout is likely to be dismantled in the near future as a set of these would have been splendid with a 4575 or Ivatt 2MT. The GWR modeller is finally coming out of the dark ages for carriage stock.
jwd
So why no pre shirtbutton livery? Their literature says these specific models were introduced in 1930, shirtbutton livery came along in 1934. ??
Dana Ashdown
Aren't these the same diagram as the detailed Collett pair Hornby released several years ago? I'm not complaining, just wondering.
