I bought one of those Fell locos marketed by Rails with 4 pairs of wheels none floating. trouble is if your track isn't absolutely flat as someone said it pivots and worst still it has the effect that all the pickups don't work. On the Fell with its dodgy pickups an even bigger issue. So I can see why it is a good idea to have the centre wheel floating especially on a diesel where the wheels are much closer together.

Having received a 56, currently circulating as I write, I'm waiting for my 60, with increasing impatience!!  Very curious to see just how much extra detailing it will have cf. the still excellent Hornby model.

Rails were a seller of the Fell (awful model) but they didn't market it, that was KR Models

I couldn't remember who made it but you are right it was dreadful. I got so fed up with the pickup issue I modified the back and front bogies with Hornby pickup parts so it ran a lot better. Since then I steer well clear of any KR Models just in case.

I don’t think that’s “ bean counters “ gone mad, I think it’s common sense .

I was under the impression that DB opted to buy the 66’s & 67’s at the end of their initial lease period (15years I think), so they wouldn’t have been paying lease charges for some years now. 66’s are a good general purpose machine, the 60’s more specialised for traffic types. That said, back when I was based in the midlands, we would always request a 60 over 66 on Autohopper duties. 
 

Anyhow, just put in an order for 60081, I had been resisting but finally gave it! If it is anything like the 56’s we are in for a fantastic model. I know it’s been mentioned previously, but I’d love to see these guys take on a 58, though it would be mighty expensive as I have built up a full fleet over the years!

I mentioned a class 58 along with a couple of others in the more model ideas thread. I put off buying a second hand Hornby 60081, to wait for Cavalex to announce their version. I'm glad I did now.

Knew I’d seen it somewhere. Glad to see there is a following. Always liked the 58’s, spent many a shift in them.

I recall reading a feature in RAIL way back when the 66s were new which stated that they could be purchased for a nominal £1 each after the 15-year lease had expired - sounded a bargain to me 😂

DB Cargo now own outright the class 66 & 67 fleet they purchased them back off the leasing company in 2015

They was not bought back for a £1 per loco I can assure you of that and spell rail backwards that tells you all you need to know about that publication.

Interesting .

The Heljan / EFE 58 hung around on the shelves a lot - might be it’s a dated model  or maybe there isn’t enough following for a new super detailed one ? And I suppose cos they disappeared so long back there’s no current market .

 

Personally though , I wouldn’t mind a couple . 58020 and 040 in faded mainline were the 2 I remember seeing .

 

Anyway back to the 60 . IKB looks great - it was only a matter of time before someone did it ! Gotta watch all these pre orders though , I’m not Elon musk !

Haha, very true! In fairness to them this piece would've been around 1997-98 so maybe plans changed, or it was just complete misinformation from the start..! 🤣 I was in my early teens reading the article so my thoughts turned to how many locos I could get with my paper round at the time - could've had a little fleet going in the back garden!

 

Going back to Cavalex Class 60s - may I humbly request Mainline Grey for consideration?

 

As a shock exposé(!) I found that Fox Transfers' Class 60 'Mainline' logos are scaled wrongly for 4mm and so it's currently impossible to produce an accurate Mainline grey class 60 without otherwise resorting to the old Hornby 'Canisp' release (which even then has logos printed in slightly the wrong place on one side) - please be our salvation chaps!

Thats a good call - I’d expect transrail, mainline and loadhaul all to appear .

 

There wasn’t that many celeb liveries on the 60s back then so I’m also expecting the British steel duo , and the corus duo ( twin pack , model ship exclusive , remortgage my house job ).

 

The dilemma I have these days is what to replace from my fleet - because I can’t afford to replace the lot

Makes you wonder once the class 60 is delivered, will we go through the same as the class 56 thread has just gone through?

I'm hoping Cavalex will only supply them pre-fitted with ESU decoders :)  Then the zimo crew won't buy it and we can all enjoy the peace and quiet. Just imagine the fun with the extra lighting complications.

There are certainly a lot more lighting configurations on the class 60.
