Cracking pictures John, spooky you get 66521, theres film of these coming off the boat at Newport on you tube but i think 521 must be edited out.or the batch must have split around them sailing.

the plant location was here
https://maps.app.goo.gl/MrDhjYqdvSeYX8Nq6?g_st=ic

finished ones were in a row across Oxford st on the north side.

however there was also brand new military tanks there and an armed guard, so I didnt photograph them, but they were like the other FL one and under wraps… i’m guessing those were the ones in the Newport video (66601-5) here which arrived in November 2000.

Below the plant to the left, the circular roadway was the circular test track.

Heres a few more..

this ones labelled 15 at one end 25 at the other, never identified it.

(15 was new / despatched several months before I visited so its not 66515), 66525 is possibility.

There's also some variance in a small batch that have the drawgear at a different height!

I think it was discussed on the 66 photo thread.

indeed certain euro 66s have different height drawbars (you can see the top of the hook on the euro loco on the right)

66792 has different front handrails, cab seam welding in addition to the lights, buffers, air pipes, air dam profile, air dam steps, etc.

The euro spec body side has differences to.

Theres quite a bit about 66792 which is different from 66793/4 etc… and those ones are unique in their own way too.

i’m hoping for a closer Euro spec body and 66792 is definitely one i’d like.

I hope you dont mind copying you picture jim.. but heres a spot the difference…

isnt it amazing, we have such detailed variations…. The Lima/Hornby one still is 1 size fits all…

Maybe slightly but I’m not going to read too much into this. I have this happen on my layout sometimes if the couplings aren’t connected properly or if locos and wagons are different brands there can be a slight variation in coupling height.

Perhaps I made an incorrect assumption that the wagons were the A/S version

I hadn’t thought of it that way and you make a good point. I have noticed recently after paying closer attention that coupling heights do differ between different brands and models, even if just by a couple/few mm it is noticeable. Even the small details like this are interesting to follow and take note of.

Kind Regards,

Danny.

If it helps the coupling conversation, the sample is, as i said earlier, a prototype and not the finished item  We will have a fully upgraded decorated sample soon which we’ll be sharing lots of lovely content of.

Obviously the decorated sample should be 171 in EWS colours 😁

Could be Kermit the Climate Hero, more unseen celeb livery.

I love the " climate hero " stuff - esp with the cost of electric all the FOCs trading AC hauled services for dirty diesel !

This is one I’d also like to see done, something a little different having the white cab roofs. I know it’s nothing that can’t be achieved with a little ‘M’ word but would be great to see Accurascale do this one 😊

66504 arrived with the other four minus its body side Freightliner branding, it was stabled on Godfrey Road for a few hours prior to running to Crewe.

505 wasn't it? That's the one with the logo under the exhaust rather than on the lift off hood

It's the black plastic cover. Worth checking there are no cracks in the light pipes too before opening out. I also remembered I had one light feed with a load of superglue on it which had caused it to frost over

Thank you very much for your help. I will check this out over the weekend.

Hi everyone,

It’s good to see the Hattons 66 tooling acquired and improved by Accurascale. The list of changes to  address all the QC failings of the original releases will make these solid performers from the box. I certainly enjoyed some Hattons bargains and doing the fixes but having these done before opening the box might just help me find time to build a layout.

Out of the first six announced it’s nice to get an ex DB - DRS 66122 as that’s seen plenty of use North of the border. Despite the number of 66004 repaints we have done, I never got one for myself so I’ve ordered that. I saw the real loco up close as it was in the special line up for COP26 at the Mossend rail event. That will be the second Accurascale loco from that event as 92020 was named the same day.

We have all six available to pre-order now at Rainbow Railways.

All the best

Mark

whats with the white roof ?

Is this a royal train 66 ?

There was an ex-ECR 66 at Didcot on saturday, looking like its typically lived in France, the roof is rusting, body side poor condition.. different patches of yellow, 1 Euro buffer with stripes, one UK buffer without.. ECR branding fading out, the EuroAirDam is gone leaving lots of holes, and only the Red/white chevrons left…
