You were the highlight of the show for me.

For me the effect of the layout is almost to elevate me, the viewer approaching the layout, to the feeling of being a skylark soaring above a valley in the northern fells. The sinew like curves are utterly beguiling and on closer inspection not a single element dominates. In some layouts the scenery dominates or the rolling stock not here you have achieved a coherent image.

A triumph.

Thanks — that’s the kind of thing we’re aiming for.

An excellent show with something for everyone. I feel I need to go again on Monday.

Not as crowded as it has been but nicely busy.

A stand out layout for me was Sherton Abbas, a 7mm GWR branch terminus, set at eye level, with inspiring scenery and brass domed locos.

I went to the show yesterday, it was generally very good and well spread out across the 3 floors. I appreciate all the hard work and effort that goes in to putting on these events. There did seem to be a lack of general traders and more specialist stands, but I appreciate that people want to be able to pick up specific items at these shows. There was a nice selection of layouts across the gauges.

Great show!

I had covid last Easter so it was a welcome return to the Race Course After far too many years away.

My 8 year old enjoyed the Easter egg hunt and an extra thank-you to those exhibitors who took the time to engage with the younger visitors.

Good show as per usual, came away with a pile of plasticard, some roof timbers for an overall roof, a couple of books and a code 40 N gauge track gauge.

Lots of good layouts though there seemed to be less Narrow Gauge than usual.

I am typing this whilst listening to radio commentary of the second half of the Man City v Arsenal match just after arriving back home in Chesterfield after spending Easter Sunday at the iconic York Model Railway Show. I have not been in attendance at this exhibition for a few years, and as usual, it did not disappoint me!

I took loads of photos on my phone of many of the brilliant and rather inspirational layouts. I only bought a couple of things - three of the Peco track plan books (Originally written by C J Freezer) - to replace exactly the same ones that are now rather old and well worn, and also a N Gauge Class 150 Sprinter in Northern livery from the stall belonging to York's own wonderful Monk Bar Model Shop. I already own one of the same trains, but as I really like both the models and full size trains, I wanted another one so I could now run them together as a 4-car unit.

May I take this opportunity to thank all that came and saw us on Coniston Lakebank (stand 100), and for your kind words!

You may read more about it in the near future....

Long live 3mm scale, 14.2mm gauge!

Thanks for the positive comments on South Pelaw. We’re also a bit frustrated by the arrangement of barriers as well as the pillar out the front of the layout — some of the interesting new moves, such as the gravity powered brake van kip are completely invisible.

We're next out at Newcastle in November, so hopefully the end boards will be more visible then.

For me one of the best layouts in the show.

I didn’t draw the floor plan layout and I am posting this as me not as an official show press answer. I guess getting it fitted into available spaces will often be an issue. As an example I doubt we, as in my local WMRA club, could fit it into any of the spaces we have at our show venue.

My best mate Dave booked tickets for the show and we duly arrived yesterday ready to be inspired by the layouts and modelling on display and - maybe - pick up a few items.

It was quite busy when we arrived, which meant we skipped anything overly crowded and returned to them later. The larger layouts were impressive - South Pelaw as has previously been mentioned was stunning, but we both felt it would have benefitted from not having to run its curved end boards behind another exhibitor. Having said that, we have never had to plan an exhibition and fit layouts etc into a fixed space, so hats off to @john new and team.

What we both found, though, was although we found the larger layouts inspirational, it was the micro layouts which we spent longer at. Maybe, we reasoned, because those were both inspirational and achievable - whereas the behemoth “headliner” layouts are far less so to your “average” modeller.

All in all, a terrific show with lots of scales, gauges and locations (UK, USA, Australia, Japan, European) catering to all tastes. Comparing 3mm/foot to Hornby’s TT:120 was a revelation; the fact both of us were sorely tempted by O gauge is also a testament both to the layouts on display and the growth in O gauge RTR - only our previous investment in OO gauge held us back! 🤣

Best of all, I sourced appropriate nameplates for my mate’s new loco!

Once again, a massive thank you to the organisers, exhibitors and traders that made the show such a great day out.

Thank you on behalf of ALL the organising team. Several are on here including @John of York61 amongst others.

It's a lovely layout and many thanks for allowing my completely out of era and even minus a body dead rail/radio control class 24 chassis have a quick run up the line.....it was very much appreciated as I have as yet only a short test track to test them on.

A lost property update: late on this afternoon we had a pack of loco building fitments handed in. Despite announcing it they were unclaimed at the end of the day. If you think they may be yours PM me a description and we can arrange to post them on.

Update - claimed, found items matched the list sent of what was lost. Now in the post on their way home.

Thought the show was ok. But for my modelling period BR sector period mid 80 to privatisation didn’t see a layout that represented this increasingly poplar era, which was a bit a disappointment.

It's just what I personally noted, I'm not saying it's a negative aspect of the show.

Fair enough. Equally, my comment was a personal opinion.

The York show returned (post Covid) in 2023, last year.

And this year can claim to be back to its best.

I have absolutely no comment to make on this subject whatsoever other than, due to the vagaries of the English language, that sentence could be interpreted in two  completely opposite ways.

1. There was a lack of general traders and (on the other hand there were) more specialist stands

2. There was a lack of general traders and (also there was a lack of) more specialist stands

Just to add my little bit: sorry that we had to borrow the Leeds MRS barriers at short notice (3 weeks!). The Warley barriers (our usual) have far more flexibility and can cope better with long corners. I am glad to have invited South Pelaw Junction. I understand one of the gang is doing a P4 version..... see you at York in 2028?

Sorry to hear you were pining for a pre-privatisation era layout and felt you had been left in the larch. Did you cedar layout  Bristol Avon Beech on the second floor?  This is only my second year at the elm of the ship! Thank you for aspen.

My wife and I had a most enjoyable visit to the show yesterday and thank you to everyone involved in the organisation. It is not easy to get a good balance of layouts and you can only go with what is available. There were no poor layouts and some unusual topics, for example, the Lego and Turquar ones. Seeing some of the more specialist traders at a big show is refreshing, if not a little expensive, whenever possible I prefer to shop in person rather than mail order. Finally my favourite layout has to be Sherton Abbas.
