Uh! Really? Even if there wasn't a Layout based in 1985 or 1885 or whatever it was, you saw nowt that was interesting? What the ### have people go to do to make you smile? Anyway, thanks for the comments and especially the great photo's. Absolutely amazing Mr. Ididn'tseeaBulleidPacificbutIdon'tcare. The Warley barriers (our usual) have far more flexibility and can cope better with long corners. I am glad to have invited South Pelaw Junction. I understand one of the gang is doing a P4 version..... see you at York in 2028? Did you know it gets difficult to hire a van when you are over 70? That's what we found at Warley. Apologies for letting York down on this one. 1 1 1

There was a lack of general traders and (on the other hand there were) more specialist stands I believe that this was the sense intended - if only because when I attended yesterday I noted a very large number of specialist traders. (But then again, I also noted a lot of stands selling core rtr stock in all scales, so I think all bases were covered.) An excellent day out all round. I do enjoy seeing a variety of scales and both UK & non-UK prototypes modelled, rather than the over-domination of “BR transition-era”. Seeing Grantham working a full sequence in grand LNER 1930’s style was worth the price of admission alone. So many excellent layouts it’s invidious to name all my favourites. But especial thanks to @queensquare for patiently staying around answering my questions about Iain Rice’s models, even though Mick Simpson had just taken over from him on Trerice specifically so Jerry could go off and see the rest of the show. It was a joy to see “Hercules”, “Pioneer” and the rest in reality, evoking cover photos of “Model Railways” past. Nick Freezer joining the conversation was incredibly serendipitous! Well done @John of York61 and the team. It was really gratifying that there was so much interest in Iain’s work, particularly the cast of Tregarick and the wonderful North Cornwall Minerals. You weren’t alone and I’ve almost talked myself horse discussing the work of the greatly missed ‘Riceickle’ …… and you needn’t have worried, I did manage have a look around the rest of the show! The journey for us up to York from the south west on a bank holiday weekend is invariably horrendous but always worth it which is why we come back year after year. Despite being one of the biggest and best annual Shows it somehow manages to maintain the feel of a local show. Many thanks again to John and the team for yet again putting together an excellent show and looking after us so well. We will be back next year with Tucking Mill, which should have been there in 2020! Jerry and Kim 12 2 1
Graham Heather
Just spent 3 wonderful days at the York show. The quality of the layouts on show was incredible. British modeling is second to none. I expected to see some great trains on the layouts, but I was especially taken by the time I spent standing at the north end of platform 3 at Grantham. Just like being a trainspotter during the 1930’s. Broadford was well done but I think I have been through there sometimes. While I didn’t see any trains that I model, it was great to see something different. Well done to all involved. Worth the price of admission. Graham. 4

RMweb Gold john new Posted April 1 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1 (edited) Thank you to all attendees. The Show Directors thank everyone who attended over the weekend, be that in any capacity towards making it work, or as one of the paying public. A fantastic show now completed, thank you. The website will be updated either tomorrow or Wednesday as time permits. There were two items of unclaimed lost property and details will follow. If you think they might be yours add a comment below. Now the countdown to Easter 2025 and our 60th event begins. As our founder, Mike Cook, described it “the show that never ends”. You must speak as you find but I thought there were lots of traders selling rtr items, both new & second-hand, including some attractive show discounts from Locomotion Models, and the excellent local trader Monk Bar Model Shop. If what you mean was “no box shifters offering stuff at mega discounts” then yes, you’re correct. But they’re available all the time on the internet. Whereas it can be very useful to see the small specialist suppliers’ items in the flesh, and chat to the owners about their products and plans. And ditto the various scale societies and railway historical groups. That’s the value of shows like York. But YMMV as our US cousins say. If the modelling side of the hobby is to survive then it needs specialist suppliers and for modellers from any point on the ability range to see that they can get items to aid their modelling. You can get r-t-r in some toy shops, the remaining hobby shops and 24x7 on line without needing a show to get them from. For rolling stock we had both new r-t-r on some trade stands and a substantial range of pre-owned on the ground floor. What isn’t easily done is seeing the specialist bits and pieces to see if they meet your needs, be that tools, kits or parts. Popular Post John of York61
Thanks everyone for the generous comments. It means a great deal when I'm shuffling round to see everyone who passes me smile broadly. It's a squeeze fitting 40+ layouts in a space which took only 37 last year! I particularly echo @queensquare when he said that it still has the feel of a local show. As I have been involved since 1975 and on the committee since 1977 (aged 16!) I will keep it as a 'local' volunteer-run show which happens to be the North's biggest. I try to keep a 50-50 balance between traders and layouts so there'll be something for everyone. 17 1 5
OOgaugeJaf
South Pelaw and Grantham the highlight of the show for me. I have attended York for over 20 years. Always loved the specialist traders. Always great for grabbing those bits and pieces. Sadly we are loosing many of the specialists and some great traders such as Tower Models. Some of the replacements are poor to be fair. expensive secondhand tat. Overall though a great show, see you 2025 2 1
woodenhead
In terms of trade, if I want RTR I can look on the internet. I appreciated having specialist traders, I picked up bits for an overall roof for my railway and some track making components plus some books. I much prefer looking at a book before purchasing so having plenty to choose from helps. With York I know what to expect and I like it that way. 5 1

RMweb Gold MikeParkin65 Posted April 1 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1 Love the York show for the venue, the time of year and for the city itself. For one with a non enthusiast wife it’s the perfect excuse for a weekend away as we book accommodation in the centre and we have a day (usually the Sunday) where we get to do our own thing for a couple of hours - I walk over to the show, she meanders around the city. I thought this years show was particularly strong and had a really high standard of modelling. My personal favourite was a little ‘what if’ of a parcels bay operating as part of the original York station beneath the walls. It was just so well observed. Some really good traders especially with second hand books, I came away with quite a haul! As for ready to run I’d already treated myself on Saturday with a visit to Monk Bar Model shop. Looking forward to doing it all again next year :) 2 1
