That makes sense - thank you and also to 6990 WS - there were lots of very frustrated folk at Carlisle trying to get to Newcastle etc. for whom there was no rail replacement bus as Northern had issued a "do not travel" notice

I assume this was treated as a test train as well as passenger services started shortly afterwards..

Yes, I was just about to suggest similar based on its very late start from Tyne Yard and its very protracted journey across to Carlisle..

The cab certainly had a full crew.....many eyes and all that...

With the Stonehaven tragedy still in Network Rail’s collective consciousness, I imagine that the safety of the crew of 6Z78 was of particular concern.

For me at least this has to be RHTT of the year…

last year we had 56091 on RHTT running with a 69 in South London, bringing a 56 to south london for the first time in years.

But tonight I believe was a first…

57305/6 have been running around the SE the last few weeks and covered some well known lines for 57’s on railtours, namely Dorking, Reigate, Redhill etc. (surrey hills circuit) etc.

But West Croydon to Sutton afaik is unknown territory for a class 57 ever before, wcrc 57’s have done Streatham to Sutton, but West Croydon to Sutton is rare mileage for railtours generally, only 3 steam tours since the 1960’s and only very occasional for anything else (2014 I recall a DRS trip, and 34046 on the football special in 2016, I think 1 other c2021).

They also covered Sutton to Wimbledon earlier today also, another line not known for class 57’s and infrequent for railtours (though for the first time in years a 73119+Thumper+66794 did cover this line in the summer on the Chessie Ned Railtour).

So new territory for a 57, unless anyone knows differently.

The Arun Valley seems a lot less interesting in terms of RHTT so far this year (no Tonbridge circuits as far as I can see - they are all turning back at Horsham). We are currently on a strict diet of Horsham MPVs...

DR98916 and DR98966 form the 3S93 05:51 Horsham TC - Horsham TC via Havant and Lewes (did not get as far as Eastbourne) past Pulborough on 2nd November. Given the stormy weather, there was certainly the need for the RHTT today!

Usual pair (I think under all the gunk/crud) today

Taken at Healing (not my usual haunt) and went through at speed still spraying. Fortunately platform was empty

It's allowed to spray through the station.  Wouldn't be much point in treating the approach the leaving the rails though the station contaminated as a unit stopping there could end up sliding straight through

66847 at Midland Rd on Sunday.  On Friday it was on the RHTT through WKK at the rear with 66849 which is why it has great weathering

You should have seen it on the Saturday afternoon, there was no Yellow visible on that end!

Grubby Tractors via the world

In typical RHTT condition, 37407 Blackpool Tower tnt 419 Driver Tony Kay head through Bempton, about an hour late working the 3J51, York Thrall - York Thrall via Scarborough, Filey and Goole. 419 developed a fault so this was the last saw of this working that day

3S81 - 05:47 Totton Yard to Totton Yard via the World passing northbound through Hilsea this lunchtime, thankfully drowning out the colourful local on the opposite platform who was loudly issuing explicitly detailed death threats down his mobile phone to some lucky caller and the rest of his family and close associates!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

There have been a pair of GBRF 66/7's on Midland Road in Leeds this weekend looking like they have seen some RHTT action

66764 "Major Tom Poyntz engineer & railwayman" and 66776 "Joanne"

Ones for the very heavy weathering modellers!
