Ooh, tell me more please! Wasn’t aware of that. Don’t think they ever turned up on cross-London freight did they? As someone who loves all things ex-GER, I’ve certainly never seen photos of them at Temple Mills for example, but not heard of them turning up at Hither Green etc either.

There was an article in one of the magazines a few years ago about the ones overhauled at Stratford (East London, not the one in the Midlands). I can't remember which magazine it was, Steam World or Steam Days ISTR. I'll try and dig it out.

Obviously not including the 94XX that was on loan there for a while on tests.

It was more like the overhauls of some PTs at Derby, not used in that area, just overhauled there. No idea which route they use to get there though.

Loads on the Southern Region though. They even got to places like Folkestone and Bournemouth!

Thanks Jason, if you could dig out the article that’d be great. Have tried a Google but nothing doing unfortunately.

Midland Region (as a result of early BR boundary changes) based panniers from the Birkenhead area definitely went to Derby for shopping at one stage but I don't know if that included 57XX.

I've not heard of any being shopped at Stratford although a 94XX was transferred there for a while to see if the type was considered suitable for heavy shunting work on the GE section - it was sent back to the WR.

Looks like BR database info matches that - 9401 allocated to 30A for a few months in 1957

Well that one isn't in any doubt. Photographic evidence of it, although the wrong type of PT for the thread (although quite relevant for Accurascale as they are doing a GER 0-6-0T).

It was also the one sent for trails at Lickey.

There are three photos of it, taken by Dick Riley - on GE territory in the relevant volume of the ' Pannier Papers'.   However where it is visible in the photos the engine can be seen as still carrying its Reading shedplate.

Back now to 57XX etc?

Sorry, catching up here. Also, easily amused:

Not really.  The 'factory' had an overhead crane but I dobn't know its lifting capacity although I did see holding a relatively fill side tank of a condensing 97XX (in order to search for a leek in the tank.

This was presumably following its return from overhaul at
