Bump?

Not wanting to faff about and miss my train, as I have no phone with an app.

Grantham Station has a number of car parks, I normally use the first on the left when I go to London on the odd occasion. Anpr controlled with payment at the machine by card. Seem to remember it was 6 quid a day but its been a while since I used it.

Anyone coming by train via Sheffield today, there’s a major signal failure at the north end of Sheffield, lots of cancellations, and NR saying 1200  to fix it. Worth checking if you haven’t set off yet.

Also bus stand B2 when I came back early afternoon, and now on a train towards Sheffield.
Good show, lots of people but not stupidly crowded, plenty of trade stands and many excellent layouts. Thanks all.

Just got back from my trip to Donny and to echo what @eastwestdivide said, a really good show, lots of people but not ridiculously crowded, good trade support and many excellent layouts.

The show BRM subscription offer is good too - so I succumbed.

A good show, well worth the trip. Seemed very crowded in the morning, but eased considerably in the afternoon.

People have commented adversely about the ratio between layouts and traders at the Warley show in recent years; if anything the balance here seemed a bit the other way. Worth saying though that it wasn’t just a matter of ‘numbers’; the quality of traders seemed generally quite high and varied, and not by any means mostly ‘box-shifters’.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable day up at Doncaster earlier today. Returned with the bag heavier and the wallet lighter. Consenus opinion from the group I was with was that this show was really good. Quality of layouts was particularly of note and important given that this was quite a trade heavy show (nothing wrong with that). The variety on both fronts was impressive, I thought.

Picked up a bit of a bargain loco (relatively so for a brand new one, anyhow) so came away happy  on that score as well. Early Feb could have been miserable waiting to get in but it wasn't! Whoever's idea it was to hand out the mags/show guides to the waiting hoardes, well done, and well done to the folks who did it too. Good have queue time able to be put to use scanning the show guide!

We drove down from Edinburgh for a weekend away to visit the show. Had a very enjoyable day at the show on Saturday. A good selection of quality layouts both large and small. My personal favorites were 'Hills of the North' , Copper Wort, Ashgate and Calstock's Halton Quay, the last two were also my wife's picks.

If I was to make one minor criticism it was that while we were handed a free sample BRM containing a show map there seemed to be no dedicated show guide. The magazine contained an about Alexandra Sidings, but there was no information about the other layouts.

I echo JeremyC's layout selection. Copper W* is something different but the others reflect uncluttered layouts. To me there were too many layouts that were just too busy.

An ok show. Trade heavy. More than box shifters but less than specialist. Not a great venue tbh.Sent

I went today, arrived at 13.30 and walked straight in, no queues.

I was a bit surprised to find the main car park considerably less than full, and also the main hall of the exhibition reflecting less footfall. Great for viewing layouts, but...

I enjoyed my visit, leaving on closing time. I'd intended to major on "Hills of the North" and happily watched an entire sequence. Some other good layouts too, particularly in "N", and I was very taken with Alexandra Sidings in "O", feeling that the double level made for a very interesting layout in what for the scale is not a large space.

Did a bit of shopping, nothing too much (I've got far too much rollling stock and locos anyway), and will be trying out some Hunt's magnetic couplers in due course.

Well done to the organisers in arranging a very good exhibition!

John.

I was there operating Shap on Sunday. Mixed feelings about the show. Its very traders orientated with layouts sprinked around the hall. It does look like a swap meet with layouts.

The rooms upstairs were not signposted very well (and never have been in the past). A reliance on specialist societies to provide demonstrations of bits of the hobby seems to be a standard thing with Warners Shows.. I suppose that is how it reduces costs but it doesn't really advance the hobby much. (Or is the "target audience" not seen as enthusiasts just "buyers".

The layouts which were there were fine.. Once you could find them.. attendance was good .. anyone going next year I would suggest arriving at noon ish on Sunday.. Still plenty to see but easier to see it.

A very good show. Having bought a ticket for Sunday I found myself in the vicinity on Saturday afternoon so paid on the door, had a good look round and snapped up a couple of 20s. I then went back on Sunday morning first thing and had a proper look at the layouts while it was less busy. Alexandra sidings, Euston Junction, Splott, and Hills of the North were my faves.

It was so good I went twice! 🙂

Personally felt the signposts for the upstairs area were fine. A big pop up banner at the bottom of both escalators.

Personally had a very enjoyable weekend exhibiting Tytton Hall Yard with the Boston MRS. It was very busy Saturday with people 3 rows deep in front of the layout most of the day. Overall the layout behaved very well and we didn't do too badly getting packed up and loaded from our upstairs location with a smaller team then planned.

It's a costly venue so there has to be a certain amount of trade to make it viable. Saying it looks like a swapmeet is harsh and I'm sure would upset some of the trade; should we only admit trade which spend a lot on their stand such as TMC?

Apart from the banners at both escalators and the plan in the show guide. I'm intrigued to know what you would add to this to improve matters.

That said, for somewhere no-one could find, my experience of trying to take some snaps of Tytton Hall Yard was that all weekend, including Sunday afternoon, it was at least 2 deep the full length of the layout. The rest of the floor was pretty busy too.

Apart from Chris Mead and Tony Wright's demos, which went down very well.

I'm sorry you think the specialist societies are doing such a poor job of advancing the hobby. They want to be there, the hall isn't going to get any bigger, so to add extra tables of demos, we'd have to drop a layout. Looking at the audience, I think they would rather see Copper Wort than some grumpy bloke prodding a brass kit with a soldering iron. (and if you need that, Tony will oblige and do a good job).

Another great layout. It was lovely and quiet in the upstairs bit too, at least when I was up there it was (goes and checks deodorant).

You must have been lost in the crowds Phil as I don't remember spotting you! 😅🤣

Like you say it was very busy in front of Tytton Hall Yard at times. We were blown away with the reception the layout received. Looking forward to seeing it in BRM on Feb 22nd.

We had a great time there with Euxton Junction. A good size audience all weekend and very appreciative! We were well looked after by the Warners crew, so many thanks for that, and a nice flat path to the front entrance for our trolley so we didnt have to lift the layout too much!

I always think that's one of the prime spots, nothing behind you, convenient for the loo etc and out of the draughts.
