RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 28, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 28, 2017 I'm pleased your meeting went well Gilbert. It is only the dedication of folk like yourself that stops clubs of any sort crumbling in mediocrity and destruction. I see the Ramsey 'Men in Sheds' which our 'Old Farts Bike Club' grew from the frustrations of being set up 3 years ago has just opened this week - we've been going three years in the interim with great success. #sigh# Doomed, I tell you.....full of the same nay-sayers that have haunted you of late! Onwards and upwards now, trains on the rainy days, golf on the fine? The management side of the golf has taken a big leap forward, but the playing side is difficult, as I'm being advised not to play at all until my back improves considerably. It looks like trains, rain or shine, for the time being.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 28, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 28, 2017 If you don't want the Common' Bogies when you swap them, may I have them please? I could send you some B1s .... not the loco type though......) if you like? I have several sets and I don't know why I have them...........................................................doh! Phil You are welcome to them Phil. I suspect there will be a few more if and when I look carefully. If you can tear yourself away from wiring for a while, you are welcome to come and do some swapping.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 28, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 28, 2017 Reaction set in today, so I haven't done much except run a few trains, take some photos, and watch a lot of cricket. Perhaps I may do more tomorrow, or not, as the case may be. Tonight though, we can watch 60119 starting away on its journey to Kings Cross. and as soon as it has got out of the way, there is time for another coal train to get through and onto the slow line the other side of the bridge.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 28, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2017 That second photo of the WD is superb, Gilbert. I hope you can take more like that one. I really thought it was from a Brown Boxie on first seeing it! Best regards, Rob.

Phil But it does mean you will soon be able to see your trains going round and round. Not that you would ever do that, of course.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 29, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 29, 2017 Another look at the WD this morning. a nice busy looking scene, as a contrast to the nothing shots of the past few days. Very shortly, the WD will encounter this Clarence Yard - Niddrie Class C, heading in the opposite direction.
allan downes
Hi Gilbert. As a matter of interest, how long does it take to complete a whole operating sequence before it starts repeating itself ? Allan
RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 29, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2017 Hi Gilbert. As a matter of interest, how long does it take to complete a whole operating sequence before it starts repeating itself ? Allan It varies Allan, depending on how many times I motivate myself to get on with it. Probably about 6 weeks to get through all 367 moves, though I was only thinking yesterday that the end of this current sequence seems to be coming more quickly than usual. allan downes
So in effect, Gilbert, you can't just photograph willy nilly but have to photograph whatever is programmed to happen at the time - yes? RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 29, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2017 So in effect, Gilbert, you can't just photograph willy nilly but have to photograph whatever is programmed to happen at the time - yes? Allan. People have said that they like to see things unfolding as they happened, so I normally do things that way, but I can set up photos if I need to, as when I try to reproduce a prototype photo. There are three fiddle yard roads which each hold two expresses, and if I get those out of order it can mess up the whole sequence, but apart from that, it is all pretty flexible.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 29, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2017 (edited) As I'm on here, and there are now well over 30 images in the store, here is another to be going on with. As predicted, the V2 and the WD are about to pass each other. A bit less light and more contrast needed? Guitar heroes at the BBC on telly shortly. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 29, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 29, 2017 Oh no. Please keep the light and contrast as they are. It's the perfect combination for that period effect. The photo is just so 'right'. I look forward to seeing more of them. Best regards, Rob.

Probably, however Knopleflower was an excellent guitarist 'taught' by Guitar George (remember him in Money for Nothing?) in a different genre. Not my cup of tea exactly but a damn fine, working class roots bloke with an unusual technique. It's a bit like leaving out Rossi and Parfitt, not main stream lead men but Rossi is actually a brilliant short riff man and Parfitt was the king of Boogie rock rhythm. Heroes to me as was Bert Jansch in a totally different way. I't is actually quite staggering just how many brilliant lead people there are when you start to dig around; Gilmour et al. ATB and don't forget that little lad Angus Young!! Slash. Edited July 30, 2017 by Mallard60022

If we're looking at different genres then I'd add John Williams, Segovia, Reinhardt and Big Bill Broonzy. But Townshend, Clapton and Page are still my real guitar heroes.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 30, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 30, 2017 Is that a heavily reworked Bachmann? Yes David. Well, you won't hear me arguing about Townshend or Clapton. I just felt that Dire Straits performance on Whistle Test was a stand out, particularly when followed by AC/DC. My latest hero, purely because I like his sound so much, is Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers. I'm not so well up on the technical side, though I appreciate it,I just know what I like to hear. RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 30, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 30, 2017 WD again this morning, captured from the ramp at the end of Platform 2. Perfectly safe, given the speed at which the train is travelling. Then the sound of another arrival calls for our second man to join the action. Just another East- Leicester local.

It might well lift the murk around the wheels. The photo is very Box Brownie. I had a plywood (yes - really) box camera with a pull-out wire frame for a viewfinder that specialised in low contrast murk unless used in bright sunshine. It used 127 film (yellow backing paper and little red window on the back of the camera). We don't know how well off we are. I sometimes reflect (no pun intended) on progress when I pick up my DSLR, and even more when I connect it to my computer. Keep up the good work. A bit OT, but this is my guitar hero. And playing a most appropriate piece also. I promise to get back on thread now, but reading about Mr Knopfler and Guitar George, I couldn't resist it. ps he was about 20 when he did this.
