RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted July 14, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 14, 2017 (edited) Provenance dear heart...... easily mistaken..... That A5 is a handsome beast. Just twigged it is a 4.6.2 so a Pacific and thus the 'A5' branding I suppose? I rather like big tank locos and have a very soft spot for the Standard 'Teddy Bear' (80XXX); no idea why other than I had several of the Wrenn variety many moons ago (one survives). Philth. The Blue Streak
Provenance dear heart...... easily mistaken..... Thanks Phil, I didn't think I had it right, but couldn't quite remember. I think that Medication I was on has fried some of My brain. I did know the A5 (I think ?) so the important stuff is still in there. Sorry Gilbert, I'll get back on topic - Big tank engines(4-6-4) are the first steam I ever saw as a small child so I also have a bit of a soft spot for them. RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 14, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 14, 2017 Hello Gilbert, I believe that is an A5. if so, may I ask what is the providence origin of the Model, please? Kind Regards Ted Edit - I'm Not sure if providence is the correct wording It is indeed an A5, and was made using the Cratfsman kit. I did the body, must be 25 years ago, but had the chassis done for me, as I wasn't so good at those. It nearly captures one of these very impressive engines very well, but there is something not quite right about the smokebox door. My uncle used to drive 69808, and I've been in the cab, so it was a must have for me.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 14, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 14, 2017 Golf and my back don't go together at present. Another awful day. Never mind. Another picture of the A5 tonight. It has coupled up, and is waiting time. It won't get to do that though until this has come through. 60141 heads the Down West Riding, seen from the loading dock.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 15, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 15, 2017 Following the progress of the West Riding this morning. We first see 60141 passing 60007, waiting for the arrival of the Glasgow, which it will take on to KX. and then passing the A5, with the end of the PSR in sight.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 15, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 15, 2017 (edited) Here is another of my photos looking across the Trent valley from near my home. I wasn't going to post it, but then it occured to me that, save for the tree in the right foreground, this looks rather like a model railway backdrop. I can see for miles....... and miles. It also occurs to me that the sky looks "right", but would not do as a backdrop to a model railway image. Strange. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 15, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 15, 2017 I really do wonder why that lovely sky is just not usable for a model railway backdrop. It's such a shame. Is it a perspective issue, or something else I wonder? Best regards, Rob.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 15, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 15, 2017 As it happens, the two images I have for tonight both feature skies that are rather brighter than those I have been using recently. First we see the C12, which has been working hard for the last half hour or so, and has been down to the carriage sidings again. This time, it returned with the stock for the 5.13pm to March, but has had to reverse it into one of the North end sidings, as the Up platform has other trains to deal with first. This sky has been brightened as far as I can take it, but it still doesn't look quite right to me. Also at this end, the loco which will take the stock to March has sneaked up the engine road, and will back on once the C12 has moved away. It is a loco which deserves a close up view. This is a different sky, with a bit of cloud to break it up a bit, so I didn't tone it down as much. i think it illustrates the point I was making above. I agree with Rob, I don't know why either, but it just doesn't look right to me either. Let's just concentrate on the Claud.
great central
and then passing the A5, with the end of the PSR in sight. 141 and A5.JPG Had a very different view from a similar position, actually on what would be your up main, several times earlier this evening wish I'd taken a photo now for comparison purposes Edited July 15, 2017 by great central

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 16, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 16, 2017 As predicted, the C12 has gone back to snooze in the bay, and the D16 has backed on. but more glamorous things are happening further South. Not one, but two gleaming Top Shed A4s, Sir Nigel still waiting in the bay is met by Lord Faringdon with the Scotch goods.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 16, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 16, 2017 When confronted by a shiny A4, keep pointing the camera at it. and hope that the sun does not emerge from behind a cloud during the five second delay before the shutter fires. That's what happened here. I've done my best with it, but it is a bit too bright really. Next shot sees it just a bit further along, and passing the waiting A5. Every now and again, something comes off the way I hoped it might, and this one manages to do that.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 17, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 17, 2017 What could be better than a picture of a shiny A4? A shiny A4 and a D16 together? and from a different angle. I'm off to Burton on Trent to play golf today. I may just have worked out on the range yesterday why I have been so c*** lately. If I'm wrong I may be very grumpy by the time I get home.

If No 34 has brought 266 down all the way from the smoke I think the finish might be spoilt just a bit. Some smokey black along the top of the streamlined casing? I rode a steam special from Alton in Hampshire to Worcester with No 9 on the front. The Mid Hants sent it off very clean - if not quite with the classic Kings + sparkle (how did they do it?) - but when we got to W the top of the casing was pretty black. The rest of the paint was still a credit to whoever cleaned it but a broad band from the chimney to the cab and almost down to the handrail was not. BoL with the golf. RMweb Premium great northern Posted July 17, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 17, 2017 Let's have some pictures taken by our Spital Bridge chappie. They usually seem to go down well. The first one got a very severe crop. so I left the next one alone. I'm getting nearly as cross with the colour of the ballast as I am with ****** golf.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted July 17, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 17, 2017 Evening. 'He' is back. He didn't spot the N5 at the time as interweb electrons were in short supply on campsites, but did today having a scan though events. Splendid stuff - oh and that Claud....makes my knees go. I must get one when they do that livery again. I know the feeling about clubs disintegrating, but that's all in the past. My best club I attend now has no rules, no committee, just some people who agree to meet in the same place at the same time. Never heard a voice of dissent. It's a bike (motor) club, but many members don't have bikes - they just come for sort of men in sheds time. Gurls too.
