FarrMan
And now another experiment. The camera is on Spital Bridge again, but more towards the centre. We know that the parapet was too high to see over in that area, so someone must have found something to stand on, and it must have been quite tall. Here is the result. The 9F at platform 6 is departing, and this is the view we get. Gilbert What happened was that the photographer was part of a group that had hired a double deck bus that happened to go over Spital Bridge. As always, the Up main doesn't stay quiet for long, and a J6 with a short transit goods soon appears. It is first seen from that high vantage point on Spital Bridge. The bus was stuck in a traffic jam? Lloyd

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 1, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 1, 2020 The big news - my hair is gorn. I tried subtlety, but that didn't work, so it got the full crew cut. It will be a while before I need to do that again. Might wear a hat when I go out for my walk though. Some of you may recall that very soon after the train to Harwich has departed, another arrives from the same place. Here it is, Tottenham Hotspur in charge, in its last weeks before withdrawal. As 61630 stands waiting for the signal to remove its stock, the Little Barford empties rumble alongside. My head feels a bit funny now actually, and probably looks it too. 22
westerner
Are you going to wear a hat to hide the lack ok of hair or because your head will be cold. As you can see from my avatar I am pretty bald, but when once a month I trim the beard I give my head a straight trim NO fitting on the trimmer so I become totally bald. It is the a bit a lot chiller than before the trim.

But maybe not quite as neat.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 1, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 1, 2020 I've even put the new vacuum cleaner together now. What a challenging day this has been. My mug of tea is well deserved today. Here's an infastructure image, though of an incomplete area. The wall segments to replace those I threw away arrived, and have been temporarily placed to see the effect. I'm fairly happy with it, so all I have to do now is weathering and the other fine details. It looks far tidier from this angle too.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 1, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 1, 2020 It was chilly walking with the wind whistling around where hair used to be, but I'm glad to have done the shearing nevertheless. Not much else to report really, all the exciting stuff happened early on. Tonight's first image isn't really very exciting either. But then we saw the Up Harrogate, with a nice clean KX A3. Doncaster stopped a while, and will then take its light eight car train on to London.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted May 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 1, 2020 Absolutely love the shot of the 9F up page a bit, Gilbert. Lots of infrastructure, lots of train to look at, it's just railway. Lush. 1
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted May 1, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 1, 2020 I like the shot of Doncaster. The weathering is great. I have cut my own hair for years. Flat top and and No 1 on the sides. Saved a fortune on hairdressers and spent the money on better things. I am about to cut to wife's hair tomorrow! I used to trim her fringe and do the dead ends, but this is different as she changed her style last year and his is going to be a bit more difficult. If I stop posting, will some kind soul check under the patio.... Cheers, Ade. 1 9

Nene sidings are quite a way down from the station, and at a lower level, so would they be visible when looking under Crescent Bridge? Logic would say not, but then what about this image. I have shown this before, courtesy of peterboroughimages.co .uk, but I'd be grateful if you would have another look at it. Surely what can be seen framed by the gantry on the left of the signal box is the ends of parked coaching stock? But they look closer than the chute to the power station, which they shouldn't be. This is the only image I can find which gives as clear a view as this. All others are shrouded by smoke and steam. What do you make of this, please? The sidings as a whole is on the 'level' with the station however there is some gradient variations within the sidings where they neighbour the GN & Midland lines. The 'blocks' end of the sidings follows to the course of the river which is at a angle to the bridge as a result the roads are not in a uniformed line and the roads those coaches are stabled on are a lot closer to the station then the roads closest to the GN side of the sidings therefore gives a false perspective. Hopefully the two linked Flickr images below can illustrate what I mean. Incidentally, you can get 16 coaches in between the stops on the road closest to the GN side and the outlet signal (don't ask me how I know this....). RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2020 Saved several nanoseonds this morning, as there was no need to comb my hair. Lots of sun, so perhaps a very long walk later, but also some layout time. We are still on photos from nearly a week ago, and have now reached the arrival of Andrew K Mc Cosh with the Northumbrian. Tim's latest A4 weathering job, and I think it is the best so far. 26

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2020 Trains have already run this morning, but everything stops for tea. H A Ivatt has Copley Hill's top duty today. Having come Up with the Yorkshire Pullman, it now returns with the West Riding. 60123 was actually based at Ardsley, but worked 56C diagrams indiscriminately with that shed's engines. And then a very long range shot.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2020 Still with the West Riding. Properly under the roof now. Then another angle from Spital Bridge, as you seem to enjoy those. I'd say this was too lopsided, but then you often don't agree with me.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 2, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 2, 2020 One last go at the different angle from the bridge. Too much expanse of sky is what I think. Something more down to earth. D11 Zeebrugge with the 5.03 to Grimsby. This was a day most notable for my having done something really dumb. 29
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 3, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 3, 2020 Another day, and on we go. Chores today, washing and stuff, but the railway will get its allotted time later. B17 Gayton Hall has been resting by the coaling stage for some time, but is now in the carriage siding with stock for the 5.13 to March. Our men did not record how it, or the stock, got there, but it makes a nice picture. I would love to change those huge lamps, but they are firmly glued on, and I'm not messing about with a TW built engine. As the West Riding has got quite well ahead, the Scotch Goods has been allowed a run along the main. 60010 is the loco today.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 3, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 3, 2020 I've just lugged twelve eight litre buckets full of water from the kitchen to the lounge, and then upwards to be poured into the aquarium. I am a trifle fatigued. Still, that took me to 1100, and the tea. Another shot of the Scotch goods to go with it. 60010 is still signalled on the main, but will be going into Westwood yard for examination of stock. Westwood was one of a very few yards situated on the Down side. Our own A2/3 60514 then arrives with the Up Glasgow. When did I notice that the coaches had parted? Only when I'd finished shopping the whole thing. I couldn't bring myself to bin it after all that effort. My fault for pushing things around by hand to get them in the right position, again. Please concentrate your attention on the loco, but not the wonky lamps. I had this view of Station Road on file, taken again to show what I'm doing around and under the bridge. Not particularly interesting, but it allows me to close and delete another folder. 32
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted May 3, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 3, 2020 All chores today, but I have extended them to the railway room, where a window sill which has probably been untouched for ten years has been cleansed of dust, dead ladybirds, lots, dead butterfly, one, and other stuff. Then it has had some polish put on it as well. Two more to do later. Photos with tea. Mallard with the Talisman, a shot I knew before I took it would be shown in black and white. I may have overdone the contrast. A little way along, Mallard met Gayton Hall bringing its stock out into platform 2. No more cleaning today, it can get quite tiring.
