RBE
I was referring to the vgas being aluminium not the transit. I assume they are still steel? The vgas were finished in bare metal which of course would have rusted in about ten minutes if it were steel. Aluminium tends to just go a dull silver colour as it oxidises. In fact a very thin layer of alumina but so thin it doesnt look very white.
Black Sheep
You don't see that much rust on transits, the exception being where there's a bit of damage to the body to remove a spot of paint allowing rust to get a hold. The rust above the driver's door (remember, drivers door is on the right!) looks right to me for having been clipped while manoeuvring under an arched bridge or loading something on / off a roof rack. occasionally bits of rust on / around the rear doors (often damaged) especially the numberplate area but hey, each vehicle is different
Gloucester Road
Back home after completing my king air 350 recurrent class, needs to be done every six months, decided to weather my OAA a bit. Whilst away a package arrived with an oxford diecast scania tipper truck, very nice looking model. Having looked at photos they seem to be remarkably clean. Some dust on the wheels and arches, black on the frame under the hopper and some scratches here and there and a hit of the dulcote and I think we will be done. I noticed there are some nice looking models planned including a fire engine! Stephen

Gloucester Road
Yesterday put Stobart and curtainside into flicker and came away with some very good prototype pictures, then using ewsjoe‘s thread (http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/82521-jos-n-gauge-road-vehicles/) I set to work. I decided not to undertake some of the mods used by ewsjoe instead sticking to paint and weathering. The cab was removed, silver paint added to the deck behind the cab, mud flaps were touched up in black and then weathered and streaked, fifth wheel was done in black, dark wash was added to the back to represent oil, and dirt that was seen between the wheels and deck While the cab was removed the interior was removed, driver installed, papers and "map" placed inside. The front was left alone as most pictures have this very clean, a little dirt and dust added to the lower skirt. Again the trailer seems to be kept very clean. So marker lights were touched in, a light dusting to the curtain, black wash to the lower skirt and wheels dusted, some small scratches to the top front of the trailer. For some reason the pictures dont show subtle weathering very well I really just wanted it light as pictures really show them very clen. So here is the before. Here is the Scania pulling out onto the steet after making a delivery. The weathering shows up a bit better on the layout itself. Next up is the tipper truck and finishing off the industrial unit. Gloucester Road
Still tipping it down with rain here in Nh, so put the day to good use. Had a poke around flickr again with scania and ian s roger searched this time and came up with this pic https://www.flickr.com/photos/49959666@N04/14098987438/in/photolist-ntSZLj-inZTPQ-kCNKev-gZZdA9-mpfyau-jghgF8-oxPP42-ngY35j-nyEyW8-kUThFc-mCZJar-oCdfms-oh5AD6-oHJcmZ-oZWXPR-oHHxKZ-jNF2DC-dPgdN7-nNPXQs-avwJf3-edHDeo-eNqYKf-mzEAHg-ezWU91-ke6kYa-iuH3sJ-gyC1Ab-gAmgmn-ezSSuP-j9vayK-ntSZKN-mWGPvx-gZZ5UY-o2BkdQ-mWGPEa-mymFgZ-fTKECa-kHbENg-efGHiv-o8NLKx-nBj7bM-pvRJLw-mWvZni-hwiRUT-pqVNB3-iSSBqu-cEsGy1-hvfiVy-op8F38-hFBWDS-oCnS7F. The tipper bit was used as inspiration. White and yellow panels were copied, red straps added, light weathering to take off the plastic shiny look dust on the wheels. Pleased with it so far. Steadfast
Nice work on the Oxford trucks Stephen. I'm glad what I posted has inspired someone to have a go, I never imagined it would. I must get hold of a tipper or two, they look like nice models. jo
Gloucester Road
https://www.flickr.com/photos/truck_photos/14636661495/sizes/m/in/photolist-oioHwF-n68yM6-dJzjx2-deNLvt-ejptzP-f7jzex-dySZ94-asAA4w-aM5JWn-cJXi27-cfCytu-efPCBU-cN7eFy-cfCszj-bwD6Bn-cN7eDf-dBe582-asNT5P-ddHbiZ-dbEYEH-deNLui-cLJhY5-diKW27-dbEYDM-omQsdz-cfCBTs-c3Guch-dbEYC6-dTFBQe-ed3SkX-dPNv4Q-ddHbmi-eUMRnJ-cfBNYW-cfCj47-iUAsmW-dBe7wP-cfjKBG-cfBKyA-aV4GUt-duiAgg-dzC63e-cfjzkS-cfBGmL/ Used this for inspitation, yellow panel added, upper stations used to tie cover too, and broom added to front of the trailer. Then weathered with powders. On the front section, weathered mud flaps and painted black, paper added to windshield driver seated. Scania is seen backing down onto its trailer to take stone up north. Both of these lorries were nice looking to start and am pleased with these additional little touches to make them unique. Stephen
Gloucester Road
Raining here again in NH. So put the day to good use. Freightliner class 57 is seen slowly making its way between the container terminal and industrial buildinvg Then decided a few more trees needed planting, so they grew on top of the hill Another on my list of things to do was complete the industrial unit area, the roof never was quite right, grass and other bits and bobs needed to be done. Here is the before After pictures shortly. (Hints can be seen comparing last picture to the first one) Edited November 1, 2014 by Gloucester Road
Gloucester Road
This is a bit picture happy. So spent today finshing and adding details to JH AHERN corp. Fencing has gone up and front gates added, grass was planted using my mat method, trees planted, sand and dirt added along road and fencing, roof fixed, ballast was redone, bushes and fencing added to backside off container terminal, people and variuos bits added. The resin van an paper bus are place holders as they are hiding some wet blotches I made on the road. Im pleased with how its turned out, having looked at the pictures though the pavement area needs some weathering and some security cameras wouldn't go amis. Any ideas where to purchase or how to make them. Stephen

Gloucester Road
Surprise extra day at home today. So having gathered, evergreen styrene, staples, thread, paint and a screen shot off Ben A`s thread I set to making a cctv. It was tiny and fiddely work but im well chuffed with how it turned out. The styrene sizes Before painting Post painting with a ruler! I kept an n scale worker nearby to keep some perspective on size, my guess its overscale, but I want to be able to see it. Gloucester Road
So finished up two CCTV cameras today, what a fun little project. Might have to look at other little details around the layout. Two will be done up on the Shed, maybe some on buildings watching the streets. And a close up. Gloucester Road
While the electrical and security companies were onsite yesterday NSEr management had them head over to the offices of the container terminal. Once there, cctv, electrical junction boxes and an aerial were added. Used this image lossely as a guide. Before After These are fun little projects as they dont take loads of time to complete and really do add to the layout. Even managed to impress the Mrs. Stephen

stivesnick
For extra security to your sites, it would be good to add some lighting. As a general rule, the lights would mounted higher than the CCTV so that the cameras don't look directly into the lights which tends to spoil the image. Also a good rule of thumb for spacing the lights is to have them between 2-3 times the mounting heights. Hope this helps and keep up the good work Nick
Gloucester Road
Thanks for the likes and coments. Having finished the container terminal office in detail it looked lonely and out of place just ploncked on the layout. So detailing of the surrounding area commenced; fencing, sign, bollards and oil streaks make it all blend a bit more. Thanks for stopping by Stephen
Gloucester Road
Been a real flourish of activity on the layout over the past week, this contiuned today with the installation of some bollards around town, the shed, and in the designated container areas of the terminal. Should really get around to finishing off the town houses! Stephen Edited November 7, 2014 by Gloucester Road

RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted November 15, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 15, 2014 Big box from Shapeways was sitting on My Chair today when I arrived home. What could be in it :-) It will be plenty of bubble wrap and little resealable bags if they package them the same as the Shapeways in Europe!! Look forward to seeing what you ordered. ian
