Night all!

Spent far too long trying to design a reverse loop into a layout without success!

See how I feel later today as to which shows I venture out to!

G'night all.

And the 1987 storm (or another about then) I had an urgent call from herself to return home and it was an interesting trip with bits of tree flying about the railway and speed restrictions just being imposed on the Thames bridges between Didcot and Reading due to worries about scouring.  the drive home from reading station was even more lively considering that it was only a couple of miles to Tilehurst - lots of bits of advertising boards and shop signs flying about in the Oxford Road but the worst, and biggest, piece was part of what the cousins over the pond call 'siding' about 12ft x 8ft which came off the front of Great Mills and went flying across the Oxford Road a couple of cars ahead of me.

Once home I found part of the roof in the front garden and loads of houses had tiles off or chimneys down - fortunately I was straight off the builders merchants and got enough tiles to do the job but we couldn't get a builder for a couple of days and of course it rained , and rained in torrential fashion all night and half the next morning, totally exhausted my stock of newspaper saved for recycling

Well, at least you had something to read.

The jaunt to almost Montana proved fruitful. Stove is now reposing in the bed of my pickup. The seller had a chain hoist that we used to put the stove on my truck. I haven't exactly figured out how I'm going to get it off. It seems to weigh about 500 pounds. The tractor may be involved.

The stove has two doors that can be lifted off (by a professional weight-lifter).

Goooooooooooooooooood morning one and all.  This reminds us that Robin Williams' fine movie 'Good Morning Vietnam' is on TV in the coming week.  He plays a DJ, Adrian Cronauer, drafted into the Forces to boost morale.  Epic.

I remember the Great Storm.  At the time I was working in Kensington and there wasn't a snowballs of making it by rail as there were trees and wires down all the way between Bedford and London.  That was the only time in all my years of commuting that I didn't make it.

Many thanks to everyone who chipped in on the issue of ghosts.  It  is a real comfort to know that one is not alone.  The guy who came back to me, as it were, was a former workmate and a 7 mm practitioner.  He was somewhat unorthodox in the workplace and achieved a great deal despite The System.  We have him to thank for rounding up bits of Government funding for Luton Airport Parkway station which would never have got built otherwise.  He was also involved with East West Rail and the Croxley Link.  The former is faltering but then it always has.  The latter is coming close to start of works at long, long last.  It will cost more than anyone ever dreamed but that's the railway for you.  At my final visit to the beer festival today I will raise a glass to him and to other absent friends.  Cheers!

Tonight the Urban Folk Quartet will be playing in a small theatre a few minutes' walk from the hovel.  I'm not really sure what they play but if I like it there will be the chance to buy the new CD which is to be launched in two weeks' time.  I recall now that I have two CDs by one of the band which are not signed - yet.  Where did I put them?  Tomorrow there will be some catching up at home.  Oh dear, it includes ironing.

Best wishes to all travellers and to the ailing, recovering, supporting, grieving, missing and depressed

Chris

Good morning all,

Dry start but a cloudy day with possibility of showers and sunny spells forecast.

I slept through the '87 storm until awoken by wife and children. Luckily we had no damage but next door lost part of their roof and a lot of fences, a shed or two and a couple of trees were blown over in our road.

Off to Aldershot today so will hopefully see one or two of you later.  This afternoon there is rugby to watch if I'm back in time, if not I will watch a recording.

No major purchases planned for today but you never know, something might just catch my eye.  ;)

No visitors expected this weekend and if the weather stays fine tomorrow the last bit of pruning in the garden may get done.

Have a good one,

Bob.

Good morning all from Barrow.

It was a quite a late night for us finishing in the Duke of Edinburgh with quite a few fellow exhibitors.

Layout set up and working with just a few tasks to do this morning.

Just heard a class 37 go past as we are not that far from the railway line.

Another great day ahead.

Morning all from the village.   Up betimes this morning and about to breakfast.   Out in an hour to assist a friend collect the trailer that he's bought.  His tow car isn't on the road yet so I've been asked to help.  Then off into the loft to try and find out why the bedroom lights aren't working.   They're ceiling mounted downlighters and I moved some stuff round in the loft before we ent to France so I suspect a loose connection that's got knocked.

Regards to all and stay safe.

Good morning all,

After a bit of a lay-in, figure I have too much on my plate locally to be able to consider either Farnham or Croydon shows (just the travelling would occupy nearly 4 hours!), even though there are layouts and traders at each I would like to see!

Fodder run to Tesco including car wash and breakfast, CoOp to test new membership card (will their equipment read the barcode from my 'phone?) Get some track on order and print a manual (I am still very paper-centric!) Then consider all the other accumulating, not-yet-achieved tasks creeping up behind me!

Probably be completely creamed by Monday morning! (And still have an ever-growing list for next weekend!)

Morning most, Evening Rick

Here in Lancashire about to have breakfast after a reasonably good night's sleep. Good time with old friends last night...he and I worked on Synthetic Environments many moons ago.

Sawley Duck beer was nice so we put the world to rights.

Now do we stop at Skipton for hot pork pies this morning????

Justin from the Palace.

Who's he?  He's the chap recently arrived ;)

Morning all.  Other times of day are available.  Been a cold / wet / windy / calm / warm / sunny / cold / misty day.  I missed most of the overnight entertainment - people falling onto the tracks and breaking their shoulders, people fighting among themselves and with our security staff, people deciding it wasn't worth waiting and walking home along the tracks ..... Summer is most assuredly coming when the number of alcohol-fuelled incidents suddenly spikes.  On the other hand I've had a remarkably good day with most of my passing customers wishing me some variation on a good day.  Even if one of those was interspersed with an F-word and suffixed "to you too"

Praised steak?  Yes please.  post-3305-0-85173100-1475913527.jpg Though it's chicken schnitzel with rosemary and sea-salt chat potatoes and a warm mixed salad tonight.

No more recent news from the home front.  I am taking that as news being good enough to assume parents have not declined in health any further.

Smile - it will infuriate the heck out of someone who chooses to be a miserable grump!

TMI Department : I happen to know that each of Alison's current pair of ardent suitors has periodic trouble with his dongle. But you must remember that she has a Master's Degree in Information Technology!

Her friend's son has now been seen by the specialist who advises urgent surgery to try to correct the curvature of the spine. The lad, 16, is currently refusing to contemplate it. Poor Gill! Apparently he is still likely to be growing a little, so surgery now has particular benefit. All five kids are very small for their age. Their father is taking no interest in any of this. Yes, he does live with them. Some people's lives are off-the-scale awful, aren't they?

A very dreary day, and not particularly warm. I ought to get out there and tidy the garden a little, ahead of my fortnight's absence. We'll see how energy and enthusiasm look later!

Why don't you just say that you built a model railway together?

If you are talking about pork pies from the butchers just round the corner at the top of the Main Street opposite the church in Skipton then, yes, definitely stop. If it's from anywhere else then you can make up your own mind.

Good morning from grey and drizzly Somerset.

I have ventured outside to top up the bird feeders and noticed two large-ish frogs in the pond, which is very good news as they have been relatively infrequent visitors here over the last 12 months or so.

Did someone mention pork pies?

George Adams of Spalding (now Adams and Harlow) produce a very decent offering, and their website will even give details of your nearest stockist http://www.adamsandharlow.co.uk/stockists.php

I have no connection with the company; except as a very satisfied customer, as a few varieties of their pies can be found at Waitrose.
