Morning, dry but overcast and a tad chilly here, today after a quick haircut then a visit to the supermarket I hope to spend the afternoon in the shed finishing a couple of jobs that I left half way through.

 

Yesterday was spent with youngest at his new abode  helping to build a rather large amount of flat pack wardrobes and put 2 new beds together, his partner the good Dr M supplied hots drinks and a rather nice lunch for the workers. Drive home from Manchester took ages with roadworks and individuals who have no recollection of the Highway Code at all!

Good morning Vietnam everyone 

 

The sun is now shining, but it wasn’t when I got up at 9 o’clock, The was wet stuff falling down from the skies! I've been quite busy so far today, the first laundry load is on the go and the topping (white chocolate and vanilla) for the cheesecake has been done, all this was achieved whilst Sheila was still in bed, she had a bad night and awoke about 7 o’clock with a very stiff neck. Thankfully this has improved since improved after her lie in. There are no other plans for the rest of the day, but that may change. 

 

Tonight we have the little monsters Ava, Evie and Max round for tea, which is a relatively easy one, pizza followed by the cheesecake mentioned above. Given the fracas that we had last week, it could be fun!

Morning - from a sunny but chilly Midlands!

What a weird week this is turning out to be.
Hospital in the first half, now the second half means we're down by a car as the Good Lady's has had a juddery fault for a while that has got worse (only found out how bad this week!).  So that's now OOU until tomorrow when it visits the garage.  I have a feeling it's going to be expensive

Means I have to catch the train to/from work, which gets in 2 mins before I start and leaves 30 mins after I finish!  Not to worry.  At least the walk to and from the station will do me good.

 

And it's ribs for tea tonight, so looking forward to that!

OK not the political type but the Internal to a company type. Having had several projects very late on delivery, so the company is reorganising, so effectively almost every Design engineer, will now report to a different engineer / manager in the USA, not to a local Manager.

So the Design Engineering Department here as such has gone. Quite where that leaves the American boss of the old engineering department I don't know, he was due in here today to sort things himself.....

As it is there are a lot of very unhappy design engineers

 

 I will now report to the vacant Deputy Calibration managers post, who reports to the Calibration manager here, who reports to the Head of Calibration in the USA. For technical things we did that anyway, but now there is no engineering department to report to, So who's monthly meetings we have to attend is an interesting question.

 

It's also interesting my Boss suddenly took today off, now he's been looking at early retirement for some time...

 

If the Deputy is not replaced soon, then they could have no Calibration department, because as you know I'm on the count down as well as the boss. If the company does something we don't like... Byeeee..

The sun is brining shightly here. Bank has been visited and tokens collected so my wallet is primed and ready for Saturday although I don't really need anything.  

 Also visited a couple of shops at the behest  of Her Bossness as we  are running out of milk and a couple of other things. How that happens given the number of times we visit Sainsbury's I'm bu##ered if I know. 

Apparently the parcel is now with our "local friendly courier" (he is actually) and will be delivered by 3.00pm.

Coffee now and then the day is mine own.

Just realised that I need a haircut so might ask The Boss to wield the clippers to remove it.

Greetings all from a bright but cold LBG. I am pleased to read reports of positive progress from some of the lurgi sufferers (Chrisf and Rick) and I hope that others are improving too.

 

Elder Lurker had a televised moment earlier this week - he was one of the children lighting candles at the Holocaust Memorial Service. I assume that someone at his school has connections with the BBC, as there has been no known holocaust or genocide in the South East London suburbs.

 

That's a little more sombre than my one TV appearance, where I gave my thoughts about a forthcoming Lions test after having indulged in the pre-match hospitality. My friend, who actually knows about Rugby, was largely edited out as he didn't know the meaning of generic and I didn't want to appear patronising so didn't tell him....!

My other halfs latest purchase that she saw on Model Junctions website. Shame that they are closing. She likes Norfolk Southern especially the special liveries. This will join the other special livery veterans one she bought last Summer in Salt Lake City. It has been on the programming track this lunch time, ready for the Freemo South meet in March.

 

Still requires a few of the sound levels turning down.

A sunny day after a cold start - very easy to measure the overnight temperature just  by looking out of the bedroom window at her across the road's red SEAT which is right frost magnet, worse than a shed roof.  Anyway painter man should finish today which is just as well as Mrs Stationmaster is tricken with severe hay fever and has stayed a bed and it might well be the oil based gloss paint which is adding to her woes.

 

Incidentally Chris I think Patrick Moore's 55 years presenting 'The Sky At Night' just trumps Nicholas Parson's 53 years on 'Just A Minute'  - assuming I've got the year counts right.  But very sorry to see NP go as he's been excellent over the years.

 

Getting more local a bloke in an orange overall (i.e. a 'professional') knocked on the door this morning to enquire if I wanted 'those two bad trees in the front garden' felled.  I asked him which trees he meant as I can't see anything wrong with the oak (although it does need a trim)  so he pointed at the laburnum and said those two, they're rotten.  Clearly a man of great professionalism as even though he was looking straight at it he couldn''t see that the laburnum was only one tree, not two, or that it still has some green leaves and its usual mass of seed pods, or that the only bit which is rotten is ae cut back bit with no bark on it.   I duly sent this 'professional' on his way without even bothering to tell him that he's a chancer idiot.   But at least I know that I can put on my orange PPE and be an expert on just about anything, and probably everything.

I had a similar joker try this on with me.  For some reason he felt the need to don his hard hat, ear defenders and face mask combi just prior to coming up my garden path.  Perhaps he was hoping for added effect.  It didn't work.

These sort of changes triggers confusion and then they wonder why moral goes and people leave ... unfortunately it is normally driven by greed somewhere along the line that has caused the initial problems.  If there was more focus on the needs of the staff  ...

Nice. Strange, I do not like the NS that much but their R line (Columbia, SC to Charlotte, NC) is 350 feet from my back door so I do hear a lot of activity. I can not see the trains due to the trees but the trees stay. Maybe someday a wireless video camera will be installed.

1. I got the Union Pacific 4141 George Bush in two-rail O scale; I presume that yours is HO.

2. What brand is that "test track"?  It looks adjustable enough to do O.

The parcel turned up at 12.16 and was undamaged and contained what it should so The Boss was happy. In fact she was happy enough to cut my hair so I can't be called "Tufty" for a while.

I then spent an hour in The Shed and finished off running in the "problem" loco. Ran very sweetly indeed so I can now officially put it on the roster.

Time for a muggatea and a biscuit or two.

Today has been interesting. My five year old Nissan Note went for its annual service and MOT at a local garage - I avoid the main dealer!

 

They rang me back an hour later to tell me that it had failed the MOT. It seems that whilst there was plenty of tread on the rear tyres there were cracks in the walls - these are the original tyres. Anyway I authorised immediate replacement. The whole thing including service, tyres etc. came to a very reasonable  £332. Goodness only knows what the main dealer would have charged.

 

It seems I've done 2,742 miles since the last MOT.

 

Then went to the Eastern European gentlemen in Asda's carpark who cleaned the car inside and out and gave it a polish for £35 - that saves my back.

 

All set for another year!

Last evening successfully solved all the worlds problems while consuming some very pleasant wine and cheese.

yes HO scale. I model UP in N and CSX in HO.

 

the rolling road is a German make and they do it in various lengths and scales but cant recall the make at present.
