Popular Post Waverley West
I was also lucky enough to spot 37692 doubled heading with another Coal Sector 37 on a Speedlink coal train. This loco has also just been through the works for buffer beam detailing. Edited March 23, 2015 by Waverley West

Popular Post Waverley West
Elsewhere on the layout, three new signals have been commissioned. These two Eckon signals protect the freight loop past Haymarket depot. They're not quite bedded in yet ballast-wise, but they are fully operational and incorporated in the route setting on my ECoS. Major ground works have also been underway to remedy the subsidence past the depot. There is still a little subsidence evident but I think I've managed to get it to a state where it's a bit more prototypical now... Andrew F
I like the illusion that the layout could be a hundred feet long or just someones photographs in the Lothian area in the eighties. Genius!!
sub39h
I went to Edinburgh for the first time on Valentine's Day with the wife. Got a chance to see Waverley in person and it makes me appreciate just how good your layout is. Truly stunning work, well done! Where did you get your flush glazing for your Mk3s please? Thanks fender. You're not the first to mention that the sun always seems to shine on Waverley West! Maybe I should try some cloudy pics too then? The next time the relentless Cumbrian sun lets up, I'll see what I can do. Cheers Dave Stunning - just stunning! Popular Post Waverley West
Hi folks, Well, with all the negativity and unnecessary confrontations seemingly floating around this forum at the moment, I thought I'd post some downright positive, gratuitous railway modelling just for the sake of it. The sun is shining and I've got my shorts on today for the first time this year. Here is 47745 arriving at Waverley West on a mail service from Aberdeen. Look, no sunshine for once! Despite going through the works last night for wheel-cleaning, 47745 disgraced herself by continually derailing and stalling on a point on which a switch blade was dead, so she was declared a failure at Waverley and replaced by 47510 Fair Rosamund, which did her best to make up for lost time... I spent a little while last night checking over my yard lamps. Amazingly they all still work, so the next job will be to install them properly on the layout. With the warmer weather and the chance to get out into the garage without ending up with frozen fingers, my thoughts are now beginning to turn to the depot buildings. Cheers for now, Dave Edited March 25, 2015 by Waverley West
blueeighties
Wonderful as always Dave. Funnily enough, I have just been out in the garden snapping some 7mm beasties, have a look at my thread in 10 mins Can't say the same weatherwise though....we had frost this morning, and a brief blast of Sun did appear mid photo session, but it's gone back in and it's now bloody freezing
Jamiel
Hi Dave.As a matter of interest, which make(?) are your Class 47's.I know each have their advantages, and with detailing and weathering all can be made to look good, but I just wondered, as yours do look just how I remember them.Jamie

We had a bit of a frost here too this morning, but it seemed to warm up pretty quickly. There are a few clouds around though. Fingers crossed that they stay away. Waverley West
Hi Dave. As a matter of interest, which make(?) are your Class 47's. I know each have their advantages, and with detailing and weathering all can be made to look good, but I just wondered, as yours do look just how I remember them. Jamie Hi Jamie, They are a mix of Heljan and Bachmann. 47510 above is Heljan and 47745 is Bachmann. I like both to be honest. The Heljan one is a good reliable loco and looks like a 47 to me, as long as you don't worry too much about the excess width (which I don't generally, as I view the layout side-on mostly). The Bachmann one is more refined and I like that too, although the oversized marker lights on some of them jar a little in my eyes. They scrub up very nicely though and the buffer beam area is superb. The ViTrains ones are good too shapewise, but it looks like they need too much work for me to produce a really good looking loco (they still have that "Lima look" to me and the prismatic glazing just has to be replaced in my view). It's all very subjective of course and these are just my views. Cheers Dave Edited March 25, 2015 by Waverley West

Grimleygrid
Superb as always Dave, you have some lovely stock. I can just imagine the noise emanating from the two coal 37s, hellfire as some might say! Whilst some say BR blue was dull and boring, I do like a plain blue 47. I agree it is rather subjective, especially as almost all the manufacturers have had ago at 47s. Your weathering really has bright the best out in them. The marker lights aren't a problem for me as I only model up to around the beginning of the 80's. Have you done much detailing, or is it just that your weathering has brought out the details on the bogies and under-frames? Lovely photos, and inspiring modelling. Thank you for sharing. RMweb Premium keefer Posted March 25, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 25, 2015 i think this has to be one of your most realistic pics ever dave - there have been many, i know, but something about the lighting just makes this one that wee bit more special. there may not have been any sunshine, but there's a nice 'neutral' quality to the light which shows a lot of the detail that might be lost in a 'light and shade' pic and a bright, grey day is much more protoypical anyway!
