One idea that has been lurking in the back of my mind for a few years was to see how well a linear motor track system would work for a tiny scale slot car set...

I thought the best bit was the working light gantry, but then the steam engines arrived with sound!

Thunderbird 2 is out on a mission

I am still working on Thunderbird 2 but the loading bay is nearing completion.

I find that ammusing; scaled-down replicas of bits from other kits, like the parts from the Airfix Girder Bridge. It's like when I read that the "Star Wars; Rogue One" team were laser-scanning bits off the old Anzio Annie Railway Gun kit, as they turn up as detailing parts on so many starships in the franchise from the classic-era the new ones/cgi designs needed to incorporate them too for continuity :)

Having enjoyed the build of the 1/48 Tamiya V1 late last year, I've decided to have a go at another German Jet, this time the Tamiya 1/48 Heinkel He162 A2 'Salamander'.

Very early days but progress is being made. As you can see, it's not that much bigger than a V1...

A 1/72 Fairey Battle , from a vintage Airfix kit, one of four kits in a cheap boxed set

FaireyBattle.jpg.67e5dd3c504d4320d84ca503d33e04ed.jpg

Account of construction here  Battle 1  Battle 2 . I still need to write up finishing it: the idea of attempting a very simple tarmac diorama to display it is awaiting arrival of a supply of Round Tuits

A Cromwell tank (Airfix 1/76) . Bought to bulk up the order for display stands for the Battle : intended to serve as the load for a DOGA Warflat kit at some point.

My Great Uncle served on RAF Air Sea Rescue boats during WW2 - based at Kirkcudbright in Scotland.  About the same time as I made the bungalow model for my Grandparents, I scratch built a model of his Air Sea Rescue boat for him based on two photographs that I found.

After he passed away the model returned to me but it has suffered some damage…

The model was scratch built using balsa, cardboard, Perspex sheet and fuse wire.  The fuse wire rigging and main mast are pretty much U/S so these have been removed.

Replacements will be made using a wooden cocktail stick (as per the original) and fishing line.

Cheers

A couple of 60's Mach 2 classics

First up Special Hobby's 72nd Israeli  A.F. Mirage IIICJ.  A very good kit but needed to read some of the instructions twice before getting it wrong!

The way the kit's designed looks good for the rest of the Mirage III/5 family so hopefully a IIIE at somepoint soon though would love to have a go at a desert como Djibouti IIIC.

Second up an Eduard 72nd Mig 21PFM bodged into an Indian A.F. Mig 21FL which was basically a 21PF with a PFM style fin. The flaps needed backdating to the Fowler style flaps and PF canopy and early seat. Thankfully the PF canopy and seat are in the box as well as a GP9 gunpod. Decals from spares box for this one.

Thanks for looking

The 162 is almost finished, it has just had a gloss coat after all the decals dried, canopy frame needs painting once some masks I've ordered arrive then it'll be weathering and done...

Having built a v1 and now the 162, I seem to be attracted to early German jets so, once the Spitfire is finished, it'll be on to a FW Ta183.  Designed as a replacement for the Me262, it was still on the drawing board at the end of the war although the Soviets did build one from the plans after the war and looking at it, you can clearly see the influence it had on the Mig15 design.  With looks only a mother could love, its a bit of a chonker compared to the 162...

I can't remember whether I put these pictures on here before - though if I did they most probably vanished with the image storage problems from last year. They are a couple more of the vehicles for the 1/35 diorama I'm building........

Since getting involved in the 1/35 scale models again (after something like a 45 year gap...) I still continue to surprise myself with being able to hand paint the small details like insignia and buttons on the figures!

Hello all, just discovered this thread and very much enjoyed reading through it (though a lot of photos were lost in the Great Meltdown which is a pity) so thought I'd add something of my own. This was a Christmas project a few years ago, revisiting the Airfix 1/12th kit I built in as a teenager in the early 1980s:

As an adult, I usually make railway models but since building this kit I've found other ways to revisit my youth (which was mainly Airfix 1/72 WWII vehicles) by building occasional military road models as wagon, warflat or Lowmac loads.

A few years ago, driving up to Cambridge, we saw a Spitfire on a low loader, the wings removed and sitting secured alongside the fuselage, something I also plan to model...

I've been working on and have finished, the cockpit for the Ta183.

It's not perfect but, as the canopy that comes with the kit is one piece so can't be modelled in the open position I don't know how much of this you'll actually see...

Construction and painting of the He162 is complete with the final bit being the painting of the cockpit frames and the installation of the canopy.  I've also decided to make a small base for it to fit on with some space for static grass so at least I can use some railway modelling skills...

The photo has, as they always do highlighted a couple of bits of touch up but, other than that, the last job is a panel wash and subtle weathering and it'll be done.

My Tamiya Chieftain Mk5 tank in Berlin Brigade camo pattern. The camo pattern isn't 100% correct but it's pretty close. I'm also a member of a very small local model-making group so build a model every couple of months or so.
