Another classic, this time from Rails - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-YOUCHOOS-ENHANCED-OKEHAMPTON-WEST-COUNTRY-LOCO-34030-DCC-SOUND-7U-/131813982132?hash=item1eb0b9bfb4:g:mkoAAOSwr0ZXNxq~

How many inconsistencies can you spot? Well I can see that 34030 was Watersmeet, not Okehampton (note nameplate glue marks!); the Devon Belle ceased running in 1954 long before tenders were rebuilt or the latest tender totem was used; smokebox roundel ceased with the advent of BR etc.   If you're going to spend £325 on something like this, at least you'd expect it to be reasonably accurate ....

Not least, the drivers blue rinse (in parts) and all that tar/oil seeping from his left armpit.  The additional working lights at the front of the loco are certainly not to my taste, then not much is on this loco - a bit of a curates egg, that should be a lot, lot cheaper.

Cheers,

Aidan

The "enhancements" are so poorly done I'm surprised anybody would want to take credit for it.

The deflector "flashes" should be at the top of the deflectors, the front nameboard should be vertical (and the disc should be above it, not on it!), the "Southern" ring isn't even central on the smokebox dart etc.

Isn't the driver on the wrong side and sitting on a non existent seat?

Pretty much a mix and match mess....

Pretty badly painted Hornby Loco Crew (Tri-ang painted these figures better in the 1960s!) ....

Ahhh I was wondering when someone would spot that.... ;) the real locos that used the "wings" had special brackets fitted as well!

Isn't the driver on the wrong side and sitting on a non existent seat?

Ahhh I was wondering when someone would spot that as well.... ;) probably a special removeable crate, used when running over the GWR line to Plymouth for Route knowledge purposes....(The GWR locos probably had something similar when running over the SR lines?) ;)

On another front...

The lumps of coal are rather large, and ready to fall off and demolish the odd signal box or other lineside structures! :O

Also.....

The smokebox circle is mounted on top of the smokebox number plate....

The Shedplate is probably wrong for the name as well....

The nameplate and shield are not central to the scroll, or level / square...

The front footsteps look like they are mounted too high on the buffer shanks...

Oh dear......I wonder who is primarily responsible for putting this ragbag together.....Rails,YouChose or AN Other ?

Nearest offer....£125.....mainly for the sound chip.

I know several SR modellers on here that would do a far better job for a fraction of the price.

Cab Lining doesn't match the tender.

The Cab lining the model carries (two horizontal lines) is consistent with that only seen with Raved tenders, even with the Late Crest. The tender being a C/D 5500g, not only mismatches the cab-width, but mismatches the lining on the cab.

34030 had the same 4500 tender its whole life.

I also think that the green is a very slightly different shade between the tender and loco, which may help explain this - clearly a marriage of disparate parts.  Perhaps, 'spares or repair' would be a better description.

34030 Watersmeet was originally sold by Hornby as part of the Devon Belle boxed set - see http://www.ehattons.com/17578/Hornby_R2568_Ltd_Edition_The_Devon_Belle_train_pack/StockDetail.aspx

It thus had an unmodified tender with original emblem.  So this model has a replacement tender.

Rails also have another model from the same stable - 34090 92 Squadron but inexplicably with an Exeter nameplate - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-YOUCHOOS-ENHANCED-R2220-92-SQUADRON-BR-BATTLE-OF-BRITAIN-DCC-SOUND-7H/191865517973?_trksid=p2046732.c100040.m2060&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107095009%26meid%3Dcd933b05520e4f71b52da71a00a2b1e2%26pid%3D100040%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D131813982132. It's also described as 34081.

Plus it has not only route disks (also fixed in the wrong place) but also "working" express headlamps just like the other example, even though the Southern never used this form of train description.

I suspect the sound fitting was done first and then the 'renaming' was done by the buyer. I've had a few YouChoos sound fitted locos pass through my hands and I must say he does a very tidy job, not just with the speaker and light fitting, but with hiding the wiring, as well.

Obviously the well known vendor thinks that Larry Goddard forgot to sign the loco.

Perhaps I should sell an unsigned painting that I have in my hall. I think it may have been painted by Picasso, but he forgot to sign it.
