Am I missing something here?  A hundred and forty sheets PLUS postage for a chassis?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Graham-Farish-N-gauge-6Pin-Class-37-locomotive-chassis-/265702269509?nma=true&si=aX75vbTmxMdDz5I3ToxJ6LpXCq4%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

You can get the whole loco for the same price and maybe even less!!!

Interesting as someone who buys both British OO & American HO from Rails; their description & pricing of American outline is spot on while the British outline is vastly inflated.

I am in full agreement, Rails US HO scale second hand is very reasonably priced and I have often had success with making offers (got the thick end of fifteen quid off a SP Tunnel Motor just this morning)  but I would not go anywhere near them for UK outline stock.  One trick with making them an offer is to see when it was first listed, it seems if it is been hanging around a long time (the Tunnel Motor was first listed in March for example) they seem more amenable to a decent discount presumably to shift it.

Rails does it again!

Wrong! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not the original box for this wagon, by a looong time.

The chassis is likely the Wrenn version of the last Hornby Dublo "Open Brake Gear" cast metal chassis, that has a hand brake handle.

The original Hornby Dublo cast metal chassis, with a web behind the brake gear, has no hand brake handle at all.

Screenshot_20220530-201846_Chrome.jpg.c581e5196e6124e492fbd234709fb4ea.jpg

The wagon has the Tri-ang Hornby MK3 couplings...as used by Wrenn...

But I'm not sure about the Disk wheels...

(Rails Photo...they have something on the lens causing a black mark!)

Screenshot_20220530-210111_eBay.jpg.49bf435a8904dab5d9c5fbbd1bffc569.jpg

So most likely a Wrenn issue.

Screenshot_20220530-202129_Chrome.jpg.00ab2007f2242f5ddf76dc0c6754bef1.jpg

The box, on the other hand is a Hornby Dublo pre 1964, less common overstickered "Export" label box.

The difference between the UK and Export models being that the Peco type couplings on UK issues are attached with rivets, whereas the Export models have the coupling attached by a machine screw.

A case where the box is possibly more desirable to a collector than the wagon!

Apart from some wagons that were put together from Wrenn parts from Basildon, and sold in Wrenn boxes, Dapol produced three series of wagons based on the Wrenn versions of the Hornby Dublo wagons:-

WR1 Series:

Original Wrenn Basildon produced and printed body.

Wrenn type Die Cast Chassis.

Dapol plastic wheels.

Dapol plastic couplings.

Dapol wagon box.

WR2 Series:

Original Wrenn Basildon produced and printed body.

Dapol Plastic Chassis.

Dapol plastic wheels.

Dapol plastic couplings.

Dapol wagon box.

WR3 series:

Dapol produced and printed body.

Dapol Plastic Chassis.

Dapol plastic wheels.

Dapol plastic couplings.

Dapol wagon box.

https://www.hattons.co.uk/228120/dapol_wr3_01_u_wrenn_range_salt_wagon_saxa_pre_owned_imperfect_box/stockdetail

After the sale of the Wrenn company, Dapol continued to make wagons based on the original Hornby Dublo SD6 body tooling.

Not surprisingly, confusion reigns, wether by accident or intention to deceive...

With Hornby Dublo, Wrenn, and Dapol using the same tooling...

And Dapol issuing various types of chassis, from old stock cast metal Wrenn chassis, through to their latest NEM coupling equipped moulded plastic chassis, all with the HD SD6 body tooling. 🤔

🐉🙋🏼‍♀️

Heavily edited to correct my mistake, in thinking that all of the Hornby Dublo (and therefore Wrenn) diecast chassis had no hand brake handles...

The last type of Hornby Dublo diecast chassis, with the open brake gear does in fact have hand brake handles! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Barring colour (probably photographic light balance) this is identical

A Wrenn W665P Salt Wagon. Complete with box, slightly cheaper...

7mm seems fine, epsecially if you make an offer while one of the 10% off deals is running. I bought two Dapol 16T minerals for £70 the pair this week (no discount), a Heljan GWR railcar for £350 recently which I regretted but actually sold on for more, a maroon Warship for £400 etc etc.

Hattons sold out a few weeks back, hence seeing these now command high prices.

P.S. My sister believes that (all) trains have steering wheels. Even she could tell you this is wrong. Why don't they give her an apprenticeship?

It's also a model of the variant without steam heating...

Probably not the most expensive one either. I do think online TTA wagons are the biggest con/rip-off in the model railway world.

I picked one up for £3 in my local railway shop at the weekend, complete with ladders & used box!

Put it on eBay for £19.99?

Everyone else seems to.

Plenty of good, boxed ones at exhibitions and toy fairs for £5.

It's to be expected from this guy. He has a collection of studebaker's to put fuel in and is regular on here. Saying that, I bought a reasonably priced DCC fitted Tornado from Mr. Gostude, and, every now and then he does have a bargain.

Why do I seldom believe the patter in the description such as - Purchased for my up and coming hobby which due to life changes has sadly been abandoned?

Usually because they have hundreds of other wildly priced items that makes me think tat dealer.

Can you not buy an 0 gauge class 40 for that price?

To answer my own question. At £509.99, that is £20 short of a brand new 0 gauge class 40 AND a B.R. 20 ton standard brake van from Tower Models in Blackpool. The screen shots are from Tower Models website. Is the N gauge model a limited edition?
