Steve K
Heljan Hymek for sale here. Nothing particular mad about it, but 'This item is fully boxed and has never been opened, let alone run!!'. So which model has been photographed? All Heljan models can actually be teleported from their boxes. I thought that was common knowledge? And what about the seller's name?????????????? Now that is ebay madness I'm actually at a loss to make a silly comment about that...

wollastonblue
Apologies as this has nothing to do with Model Railway items on Ebay, but: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HESTON-BLUMENTHAL-HIDDEN-ORANGE-CHRISTMAS-PUDDING-/260700342818?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Food_SM&hash=item3cb2f38a22 For a christmas pudding? RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted November 29, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2010 it finished at £185 can anyone tell me WHY Nowt so funny as folk. One word of caution, make sure you wrap it really well and send it Special Delivery - you don't want him claiming his money back for "non delivery" or "Damaged" Having had a quick look at your sale Brian, looks like you had two snipe bids at the end of the auction and they REALLY wanted it. Makes you wonder what the max bid the winner actually put in
kintbury jon
My dad is an avid collector of Trix. I would have thought that the motor itself is similar to other engines, maybe the cheap 040 tanks that were mass produced. I know there's a chap that does Trix resprays and I guess that if someone has the spare correct tender, it could be a reasonable buy. I've spoken to my dad and he reckons that it would be worth around £80 for the parts - £100 tops (to him).
Torn-on-the-platform
Heljan Hymek for sale here. Nothing particular mad about it, but 'This item is fully boxed and has never been opened, let alone run!!'. So which model has been photographed? And what about the seller's name?????????????? Now that is ebay madness It also seems to have been photographed on thick-ish carpet! I find dust and fluff can be problematic enough and I keep my engines well away from the floor! it finished at £185 can anyone tell me WHY I suppose that if that happened to me I'd be very confused, but at the same I wouldnt complain! Maybe they had trouble with the decimal point placement? A nice suprise before Christmas atleast

Maybe they had trouble with the decimal point placement? A nice suprise before Christmas atleast It´s like when I sold my Roundhouse Shay, it was not running and described as "for the technically experienced" etc..... I got something like £ 100 for it At the time, the Bachmann RTR Shay was going for less than that at some Ebay-shops.....

Dr Al
Madness seems to have struck N gauge Scotsman aswell... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/N-gauge-locomotive-Flying-Scotsman-Graham-Farish-/220700836650?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3362cb832a There's nothing special about this - it's a standard stock model - one wonders if demand for A3s in N is outstripping the currently non-existant new-supplies... RMweb Premium Chris116 Posted December 3, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 3, 2010 I think some of the sellers must be mad! Just did a search for OO gauge Graham Farish/Grafar items and over half of the ones listed in the 'OO Gauge Coaches' section then said they were N gauge which they were not listed under! Don't sellers realise that if you have an OO layout then N gauge items don't fit! Chris

Yes, but not everyone takes the time to go through all the drop-down list tabs when they're writing their listings. And if you're selling something like P4 or HOm, the drop-down lists don't really cater for those gauges, so you have to take the "custom" option. And if you're selling something like P4 or HOm, the drop-down lists don't really cater for those gauges, so you have to take the "custom" option. Plus the fact that, in this case, they have achieved the objective of getting the maximum number of people to look at the item by listing it in the most popular category. As long as the listing is quite clear, there is no objection to this in principle and, of course, if you buy it in error then you have the right to return it. Many is the time when a really decent piece of kit doesn't get the views because it is listed 'correctly'.

Many is the time when a really decent piece of kit doesn't get the views because it is listed 'correctly'. I must be missing something here. If a Hornby item is listed under Bachmann, it will not be picked up by 'Hornby' searches. If an item is listed under 'OO', it will not be included in 'N' searches. Only the most vague of search criteria would overcome those errors, and then there would be so many items the searcher would lose the will to live before finding them anyway! I do tend to assume that ebay buyers in specialist markets like ours have a very clear idea of what they want, and tailor searches accordingly, to speed the process. Advertisers need to be up to the mark to meet that precision.
