RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted November 23, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2010 This individual has come under my notice before - he seems to have trouble with his categories. Why else would you advertise this under Bachmann? And is it really worth this much to any person, livid or deaf? http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item19c1338265 Don't think it qualifies as New under the Ebay definition, but of course it is unrun - it's got no **** wheels or motor!! steveb860
He disassembles loco's and sells the parts as spares. I have purchased off him recently after two of my 50's crashed to the floor, smashing parts including both chassis blocks I couldn't buy as replacements elsewhere. He may be expensive, but worth it to re-instate the loco's, one of which performed admirably at Warley this weekend. kintbury jon
In the past I have found it cheaper to buy a complete engine, use the parts I need and then sell the rest on. It is more hassle though.
Horsetan
I think we should be grateful that these dismantler / recycler services exist, particularly when we need one in an emergency...... Just like when you need that part for your car, and you don't necessarily want to pay main dealer prices.....

Just like when you need that part for your car, and you don't necessarily want to pay main dealer prices..... Yes, I understand the need and in that case the price may be worth paying - but why does he make such a mess of advertising his items? This is not the first time his Hornby spares have been advertised under Bachmann (the last ones were Cl 50 motors or something) - and I seriously resent my searches being clogged up with items that are just plain wrong, and will also limit their seller's sales potential by missing the target market! Il Grifone
Sold as seen .... EBAY LINK Beware of mis-descriptions.! Well it is blue, they're Pullman cars (more or less) and it's electric and sold for about what it's worth. The late Tri-ang TC cars are quite uncommon (more so in green). I would agree that the item could have been better described though.
Il Grifone
This seems a bit OTT pricewise. It that why she didn't sell and has been relisted? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260697003718&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNARL:GB:1123

Tyco were fine in the days when not much plastic RTR was about, but Bachmann and others have stolen that market with highly detailed models that run as well as they look - and don't have tender drive! And these days, for only twice as much, you might even pick up a Broadway Limited loco with sound. Even the brass market is a bit challenged now due to the quality available in plastic. And, after all, how DO you get rid of a level crossing with gates one side and an AHB the other? I fear there are refuse disposal operatives who might draw the line (sorry) at that! RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted November 26, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 26, 2010 I have been floating through EBay lately in search of Airfix/Dapol/Hornby aircon Mk 2's. They are around in reasonable numbers (all be it the TSO variant seems to be a bit thin on the ground) but this is the most common FO example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Airfix-OO-1975-BR-Blue-Intercity-Open-1st-Class-Coach_W0QQitemZ260622457318QQcategoryZ125437QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D15%26pmod%3D180588068532%26po%3DLBI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5234222438608096921 HOW MUCH?!?!?!?! And remember boys and girls, this may be harmful to aquatic life...
Torn-on-the-platform
I was having a look at the Hornby Q1s as I'm tempted by a second. I noticed that the TMC are asking £190 for their weathered versions. Factory (including weathered) examples are going for around £70 and I thought that the TMC's weathering service was £40 or £60 (de-luxe). The Q1 isn't available through Hornby at the moment so I can't find a list price, but surely £150 is the maximum they could charge?
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted November 27, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 27, 2010 Most TMC stuff is way overpriced for what it is and I have not been all that impressed with the weathering of some of their EBay efforts. The Bachmann blue/grey Mk2's they offer 'weathered' look like a way of offloading surplus BSO's, BFK's and FK's at twice the book price by simply passing a air brush over them and then charging accordingly. I've seen plenty of boxed FOs at around £10/£12 with box shifters and at local swapmeets.
