EBay madness

'Buy it now' examples of an item available at $35.83 and $46.99. An auction started at $0.01 and, 17 bids later, went for $49.50. I really don't understand that - do people get fixated on a particular auction and not look any further?

Bidding on examples of this item were so weird that I still occasionally look at what they're going for. One finished a couple of days ago at $49.99, after starting at $0.01, with 11 bids. Two more, in the same condition (brand new in box), were available 'buy it now' at $39.99, FROM THE SAME SELLER, and are still unsold! Edited by pH

I can't help but think this is yet another example of a fine model loco being ruined

60114 was only in this livery for two years from being built in 1949.

It would have been a brand new loco and the pride of the ECML - would it really have looked like this after 2 years in service on top link expresses in 1951?

I like weathering when it is done properly and when it is appropriate!!

If the value of an item on the secondhand market has risen, I don't have a problem if the original price label shows a lower amount. Of course, if it's a daft or ridiculous price, that's different, but if I listed a 1970s loco with an original price label still on the box does that mean I'd have to charge £4.99 for it?

Andy I know where you are coming from on that one and totally agree!!

This was very much current farish type stock no more than 2 years old still available in some shops!!

Even the price label was immaculate, fresh of the label gun immaculate!

No going to say its wrong etc, but bit bloody cheeky!!

Given the general standard of 1970s r-t-r, yes. ;)

Is this rare because it's on a black 24' underframe?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-GAUGE-KITBUILT-GWR-SIX-WHEELED-TOAD-BRAKE-DETAILED-RARE-ITEM-/381002725118?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item58b58836fe

The pricing appears to come from the Gostude school..... :O

EDIT

Just noticed it's the same seller as the perpetrator of 60114 above. Arrived independently!

(I'm not sure how it's managed to repeat itself???????)

I think it is rare because it is the 6 wheeler version. IIRC quite a bit of work has to be done to reduce the length, move the strapping, remove the metal plating etc of the Ratio Toad in order to make it a 6 wheeler

Edit - but looking at it again I don't think he has actually shortened it anyway, so it is incorrect...........

Not my area of interest or expertise but I recall a posting a little while back about a Rovex Plunger Princess going stratospheric. One to watch for the next week?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVEX-TRI-ANG-MK1-PRINCESS-ELIZABETH-PLUNGER-PICK-UPS-/281444659109?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item418768afa5

NOT the MK1 Princess! (As the listing claims...) That is the Roller Pick Up Version.

The tender has had silver paint applied to the detail on the chassis.

The tender coupling is the Tri-ang MKII, not the ROVEX type. So, the tender makes it an early Tri-ang Version (C1952) (The Plunger version was also released with a tender carrying the original ROVEX Coupling.C1950-1951)

I cannot see the motor, so unable to check if it is X.01 (Disk Commutator) or X.02 (Drum Commutator).

The bottom bar of the surround around the drawbar was always brittle and snapped easily. The bottom bar was done away with on later tooling for this reason.

I would say that the box bottom is from a Hornby Dublo 2-Rail set....with a "weathered" lid!

IMHO the K's kit would be a suitable starting point (at least it's the right length) but it requires quite a bit of work even so.

I added a third axle to a Dublo van many years ago. I thought it looked quite reasonable, until I compared it with a drawing.........

II Grifone,

And I couldn't resist, even though it's not the holy grail roller princess it still fills a gap in my archives :)

Do people have no idea of time. It would not be so bad if the load was in era to livery.

Never knew tractors were painted GW grey either.

Chronology apart, it's a sight better attempt at weathering than many on ebay.

True K's kits are getting a bit thin on the ground now. They still turn up from time to time though - toy fairs are good hunting ground - often cheap through having been badly assembled and painted.

Has anyone spotted the Lima GNER Class 08 for £7,800?

I'd post a link but IE and the forum are still at loggerheads and won't let me paste.

This one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCARCE-LIMA-L205297-GNER-RFS-BLUE-LIVERY-CLASS-08-DIESEL-SHUNTER-No-08-331-/371148975625?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item566a33ee09

I do like the part of the listing that says: GAUGE - OO 12 VOLT DC - WILL ALSO RUN ON HO GAUGE TRACK. That made me chuckle nearly as much as the price, decimal point in the wrong place me thinks.
