EBay madness

I agree....

The locomotive body is a plastic kit, made over the years by a few companies, Kitmaster, Airfix, and presently by Dapol. (A pity the modeller didn't use the kit tender top as well...)

Given the transfers, it is possible that this was a Dapol kit, as they have produced various names/numbers, etc. Kitmaster and Airfix only supplied Biggin Hill...

The locomotive chassis, complete with motor, driving wheels, rods, cylinders, front bogie and rear trailing truck is from a Tri-ang Railways R.50 "Princess Victoria", and dates from 1961 or 1962 (The distinctive driving wheels were only used on these models.)

So, the wheels are all wrong, even given that the driving wheels are the solid sintered iron type, but with spokes! (Bulleid-Stanier Type? ;) )

The simplified rods, without the valve gear, are also typical, R.50. A bit like a Bulleid...but the slide bars and cross head are wrong...

The tender is also from a Tri-ang Railways "Princess", most probably from the same locomotive.

Pure Stanier, but painted green!

At least someone has tried a bit of modelling!

The photos have a legal background as well... ;)

So basically a load of Carp then!!!!

This scares me!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/21C170-Battle-of-Britain-Class-Manston-Southern-Region-Spares-or-Repair-/331312936223?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4d23ca351f

I am a particular fan of 34070 'Manston', and I can't hep but feel this dishonors the name

1) The tender type doesn't even come close to a Bulleid

2) The Terminology used in the description is more than questionable! Cab referred to as Cabin, Loco number referred to as Serial Number, it's 'Air smoothed casing' not 'Streamlining' and 'Cylinder' not 'Piston Box'

3) The name plate transfers are far from straight

4) The lack of research into what it could be is appalling! They even state the Reference number of the tender, did they not think to search it and see what they could find out about that? At least then they would've realised the tender was from the wrong engine!

Maybe the bidder wanted an original screw, that's about all's worth saving

Here's a load of trash, which looks like it came from one of those budget price train sets they often stock in my local "Poundstretcher" store  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-00-8-wheel-Bullion-Van-Weathered-/151411489197?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item2340d3f9ad

The seller also has this, er, charming item and he says more can be produced - if they prove popular http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LNER-D51-Drummond-4-4-0T-ex-NBR-Limited-edition-Hand-built-special-/151406425865?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item234086b709

While I am thinking of cranes.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Abandoned-00-GAUGE-mobile-crane-heavily-rusted-and-weathered-/291238576064?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item43cf2bffc0

An-uplifting experience! ;)

An interesting use of an old Tri-ang Transcontinental TPO Car!

Even the crane is a Tri-ang product....!

EDIT...

I have had a look at the other items....GBL have a good customer here! ;)

Now weren't these coaches made of wood?....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Abandoned-00-GAUGE-coach-heavily-rusted-and-weathered-/291238885128?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item43cf30b708

The crane has a bit of a problem with loading gauge (is that where the scraping comes from? - bridges, tunnels etc.)

and the coach (yep wood!) definitely needs scraping to remove all the bird-lime. Scrapping (i.e. put the poor thing out of its misery) would be an alternative. Strangely it has two bids! :O

Of his other offerings this one seems particularly unfortunate.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scrapyard-00-GAUGE-diesel-loco-heavily-rusted-and-weathered-/301308081883?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item46275c76db

He also has a few Tri-ang wagons - more rusted wood and attacked by a soldering iron (no - it does not look like a burnt out wagon - very skilful modelling is called for to make a model of one of these).

EDIT for early morning finger trouble.

From the Hornby  'Toy Story' train set, but about the same quality at a higher price, (Incidently surely they would not want to advertise the vehicle was carrying bullion??? :scratchhead: )

The 4-4-0T explains want happened to the locomotive from the set.

I bought one of the carriages for 99p to see what I could do with it. It would take a bit of work (fixed bogies and printed windows) so it's taken up residence in the loft. The standards of moulding were high, though. A cheap reefer car for a repaint and new bogies?

It does not have bogies, but it takes curves really well due to plenty of axle play.

Two things,

1/ it looks like it has bogies to me.

2/ It doesn't take curves 'really well', as it seems to have come off the track on a curved point!

Wagon and loco chassis come from the Hornby toy story train set. Reworking the loco myself for O-16.5 but I don't think it's worth that much.

£15 seems a bit OTT for an item "SARES (sic) or REPAIR", which translates as 'knackered'

I can't quite make out the make, but it appears to be Märklin.

If the postage was free, then it would be put out of it's misery at the bottom of my garden.......,

I'm sure some of the traders had a load of that stuff in a rummage box at the Ricoh!

Ah, but see the listing, an 'expert' has stated that two of the items are worth over £600!

So apparently the expert/collector determined he'd HATE to make a raging profit on those items and suggested they are "thrown in" with a lot for a quarter of the price! :jester:

How manganimous :)
