Great to see some progress on this!

Just a thought on the design. From the sketch it looks like there are "Norman-beams" outside the front and back of the board, between the cross members. What purpose do these serve? Would we be better with a single layer of ply and a batten of softwood to screw the board tops down to?

If all the boards have 3" deep frames, and are designed to stack, then mounting the motors above or below the board will make no difference - provided the upper board does not have a cross member where the lower board has a motor.

How will you protect the track on the lower board where the end & cross members for the upper board sit ?

Then you risk the servos hitting either the cross beams or the fold up legs on the board above when stacked.

The track is protected by the sides of the boards as they are slightly higher

Bit of a quiet year as there is some work to be done on the layout over the next 11 months.

Just the one outing with BCB to Wigan in October, although as a group you'll find us out with various other layouts throughout the year.

Currently reviewing a number of invites for 2017, all of which appear to be in the South.

Thanks, Mark that's excellent. I'll look forward to seeing BCB at Wigan in October.

David

Why are using twice as much wood as you need to, which nuclear attack are protecting yourself from?

I know you like using your toys in the garage but you're making life difficult for yourself.

Mike.

You are of course right.

I've become a slave to my machines.

(I'd wondered where you'd got to, happy you've been found)

Not really BCB related, but readers if this thread might be interested to know that the subject of West Midlands freight lines makes a welcome return to the pages of the latest editiin of Traction magazine, with a 7 page article by David J Hayes on Norton Junction and the Lichfield to Walsall line. Plenty of BCB era photos and gen. Follows on nicely from the earlier articles in Traction 213 and 214.

...and BCB appears in this issue of Traction with a 6-page article by Andy York. Traction July/August (234) goes on-sale on Friday (note the new-look front cover!).
